Kindle Fire

I have a Kindle Fire HD8 which I use as my reader. I have Google Play and Moon+ Reader, and FBR reader installed, and I use those rather than the built-in Kindle reader. I transfer my books in epub. I can't use Calibre Companion on this device, or on the previous Fire 8HD that I owned. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and since CC uses its own records, I can't combine it with cable. Cable connection via USB is really, really slow. It can take up to 5 minutes to make the connection, if...

You don’t have the budget (or need) to invest in a huge technological infrastructure, but that doesn’t mean you can’t access some great tools to make running your business easier and more profitable. Of co...

Gmail App Changes Will Cause Most IFTTT Features To Stop Working

Almost all of Gmail's IFTTT routines and actions will stop working at the end of the month as Google alters the Gmail API to make it more secure. The only functionality of IFTTT-Gmail integration will be sending yourself an email and sending an email to someone else. TechSpot reports: The roots of this problem reach back to a breathless report in the Wall Street Journal in the summer of 2018 that claimed Gmail app developers have been reading your email. A look inside crypto firm Galaxy Digital, founded by “sidelined” Wall Street legend Mike Novogratz

Mike Novogratz, a former hedge fund manager who was once captain of Princeton’s college wrestling team, has been described as many things, including in just one New Yorker article in which he was featured last year.  An on-and-off-again billionaire. A sidelined Wall Street legend. “Bombastic.” “Full of shit.” A former party animal whose “lifestyle issues” led to his removal as a partner at Goldman Sachs back in 2000. While Novogratz appears to be beloved by many friends, despite these qualities ...

We Transition Between 19 Different Brain Phases When Sleeping, Study Finds

A new study suggests that instead of the traditional four sleep stages we generally understand the brain moves through, there are in fact at least 19 different identifiable brain patterns transitioned through while sleeping. The four stages have been classically determined and delineated using ...

McDonald's Bites on Big Data With $300 Million Acquisition

An anonymous reader shares a report: Mention McDonald's to someone today, and they're more likely to think about Big Mac than Big Data. But that could soon change: The fast-food giant has embraced machine learning, in a fittingly super-sized way. McDonald's is set to announce that it has reached an agreement to acquire Dynamic Yield, a startup based in Tel Aviv that provides retailers with algorithmically driven "decision logic" technology. When you add an item to an online shopping cart, it's t...

Apple TV+ makes Facebook Watch look like a joke

Apple flexed its wallet today in a way Facebook has scared to do. Tech giants make money by the billions, not the millions, which should give them an easy way to break into premium video distribution: buy some must-see content. That’s the strategy I’ve been advocating for Facebook but that Apple actually took to heart. Tim Cook wrote lines of zeros on some checks, and suddenly Steven Spielberg, JJ Abrams, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and Oprah became the well-known faces of Apple TV+. Fa...

Apple News+, at $10 a month, could deliver more content than multiple subscriptions

While it was not immediately clear what was on offer across all publications, subscribing to the 300 titles would cost a whopping $8,000 per year, Apple executives said during a launch event at its Cupertino, California headquarters on Monday.
