I've only been using Apple's new MacBook Air for a day, but it feels like it could be the best Apple laptop for most people (AAPL)

The biggest improvement to Apple's new MacBook Air is its Magic Keyboard, which represents a much-needed upgrade over the butterfly mechanism keyboard found on older Apple laptops. The MacBook Air has gotten some performance improvements, additional storage, and a slightly lower price — all qualities that make it a more formidable competitor to Windows rivals. It's probably the right choice for most Mac users looking for a new general purpose laptop that doesn't need the extra power provided b...

Calibre alternative for iPad

Hi folks, I am considering my options to go iPad-only, but one of the use cases I have (and which is stopping me from giving up on my MacBook Pro) is eBook library management. I am a happy user of Calibre on the Mac, and have been for many years. I tried searching here and on Google if there is such an alternative for the iPad as well, where I could also convert ePubs to mobi and vice versa. I couldn’t find anything, so was wondering if this exists at all?

Now is the worst time to buy a new Apple laptop (AAPL)

Apple is expected to launch a couple of new laptops in the coming months, including MacBook Pro and Air models that include the company's recently redesigned keyboard. Apple may also release new laptops based on its own custom chips for the first time in late 2020 or early 2021, reports analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. If your laptop is still working well enough but you're starting to think about a replacement, it's worth waiting a few months if you can to at least decide if Apple's new options would be ...

New MacBook Air Possible as Early as Next Week

Last March, MacRumors received an anonymous tip claiming that Apple would announce new iPad, iMac, and iPod models with three consecutive days of press releases the following week, and that information proved to be two-thirds accurate with new iPad Air and iPad mini models announced on Monday, March 18 and an iMac refresh on Tuesday, March 19. Apple did announce a new product on the Wednesday, but it was new AirPods, not a new iPod. Given both products have "Pod" in their name, perhaps there wa...

Apple will reportedly release MacBooks with new and improved keyboards soon

Back in November, we heard rumblings Apple was planning on releasing a 13 or 14 inch MacBook Pro with the new scissor keyboard introduced on the 16-inch model. Today Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reaffirmed this rumor, claiming that the new keyboard would arrive on MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models in Q2 of 2020, as reported by MacRumors. The existing models are using the yucky butterfly switches Apple introduced with the 2015 MacBook, which had a propensity to get gunk stuck under the keys (and i...

Apple could announce new MacBook models with scissor-switch keyboards soon

According to a new report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple could unveil new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models with scissor-switch keyboards. MacRumors first noticed the report; TechCrunch obtained the research note as well. Apple updated the big MacBook Pro in November. The company slightly increased the size of the display from 15” to 16” without any meaningful changes in overall size. Apple also abandoned the controversial butterfly keyboards. The 16-inch MacBook Pro now relies on the m...

Apple's launch of a cheaper iPhone is looking increasingly uncertain as the coronavirus spreads (AAPL)

Apple was reportedly planning to hold an event in March to announce new products, but has scrapped plans to do so because of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, according to Cult of Mac. Apple was widely expected to announce a low-cost iPhone called the iPhone 9 or iPhone SE 2. The cheaper model would reportedly have a design similar to the iPhone 8 with the same processor as the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. But Apple has delayed the announcement because of production delays, as well as concerns around...
