The Undergarment Shop Reveals the Truth

A little girl who had short red curly hair, bobbed up and down the aisle while her Mother looked at undergarments. I was amused by her non-stop chatter and her Mother's forthright replies. When the little girl wandered-off, the Mother would question, "Where is my shadow?" The little girl would quickly return assuring her, "Here I am!" I was captivated by their relationship. Soon thereafter another woman came into the shop to look at undergarments. The little girl looked the woman up and down ...

The Endless

I had heard this described as a horror film, although it borders more on the sci-fi side of things. It’s an interesting premise — what appears to be a UFO death cult is more than it seems. Production values are definitely on the low end, but the film is well done, if a bit long at times — it should have gotten to the “phenomena” part of the story much faster in my opinion. It’s on Netflix, and well worth watching if you’re in the mood for an intellectual sci-fi/supernatural/strange phenomena st...

Pride & Prejudice & Zombies

I remember there being a lot of buzz for the book when it originally came out, but it wasn’t really something I was particularly interested in, and same goes for when the movie came out. On Halloween night I was looking for a movie to watch, and spotting this on Netflix, I decided to give it a go. Most of it was pretty fun — especially the bits that contrast high society and zombie killing. It does drag on in parts, but for the most part I enjoyed it, and it’s indeed a fun premise.

Whale watching on the West Coast

Whales are not just the largest animals in the world. They are also intelligent, intriguing, and graceful creatures — and observing them in their natural habitat is a unique and exciting experience. On the west coast of North America, you can see whales all year, but winter is the height of whale-watching season. Whether observing gray whales, blue whales, killer whales, or humpback whales, you can find them all in the Pacific Ocean. From California to the state of Washington, here are the be...

I’ve been curious about this series for a while now, and so finally got around to starting it during my October horror fest. I’ve only watched the first episode of three, but I really liked the setup — a near future in India where religion is banned. They tease a bit of supernatural stuff, but it hasn’t really gone full out yet. Looking forward to watching the rest.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch

This is such a weird movie. I probably watched it back in the day, but really didn’t have many memories of it. It’s so weird how it really has absolutely nothing to do with the Michael Meyers saga — although I do love the little nod they do through a TV commercial. The whole premise is just so nuts — killing all kids on Halloween through voodoo-powered microchipped masks. I can’t say it’s good, but it was pretty fun to watch. As for the soundtrack, it’s still by Carpenter (who produced, but did...

Bikini Airline Expected to Finalize Order for 50 Airbus A321neos on Friday

VietJet's CEO became Southeast Asia's first self-made female billionaire. The airline is a discount carrier flying narrowbody aircraft mostly domestically although with several routes now into Asia. Five years ago the airline was fined 20 million Dong over unapproved inflight entertainment. It wasn’t a problem with the installation of a seatback video system. Instead, 5 bikini-clad candidates in a local beauty contest performed a dance onboard the airline’s inaugural flight to Nha Trang. Cont...

A Great (and Guilt-Free) Belt

This shows the clever ratchet/rack mechanism on the inside of a ratchet belt, and the clean appearance on the outside. If your belts are at all like mine, they’ve got five holes in them, an inch apart from each other.  In my case, there is a sad hole or two – a memory of earlier slimmer times, and a hole that shows way too many signs of stress because I’ve been slow to admit that somehow, the belt has shrunk and I need to move to another hole. This is particularly challenging when on a cruise, ...

One of the two Stephen King films that popped up on Netflix a while back, I kept meaning to watch it and finally got around to it. Can’t say I liked it much though. There just isn’t much of a story here, which is no surprise when you learn that it was adapted from a novella/short story. The film itself is well put together, but I just didn’t find the story to be interesting, a bit too basic really. Might have worked better as a 30-minute episode for an anthology series.

The best spirits not sold in the US

The United States is lucky when it comes to spirits. There’s a seemingly ever-growing number of domestic distillers putting out some of the best whiskey, gin, vodka, and brandy in the world, and importers bring in a wide variety of options from abroad. But you’re not experiencing the true span of all there is to drink out there if you’re only drinking the things you can find in the US. There are bottles out in the world that can’t be found stateside and are worth seeking out when you travel a...

Every American pizza style, ranked

Pizza symbolizes everything great about America. It came to us from another country, but over generations, we’ve changed it, adapted it, put our own twists on it, and made something that, to most of us, is even better than the original. Sure, you can still get fantastic pizza in Italy, but will it have pepperoni curled into grease pools? Or avocado on top? Or square slices rimmed with deliciously-burnt cheese? Likely not. Americans across the country have made regional tweaks to pizza, creati...

The UAE wants the world’s money — but only if it is clean | Arab News

The UAE wants the world’s money — but only if it is clean | Arab News:While the UAE wants the world to put its cash into the country, it is becoming increasingly choosy where that money comes from. That is the lesson from two pieces of legislation introduced in the Emirates in the past week. Both have been some time in the making, which should ensure they can be implemented quickly and effectively, and both are vital if the UAE is to retain its position as the financial hub of the Middle East.The...
