Japan is Giving Away Country Homes for Free

Would you like to move to Japan? Would a free house sweeten the deal for you? One result of a population which is aging — and thus decreasing — in Japan is the increase of vacant homes in the country; and an increasing number of abandoned properties means that they are becoming more and more affordable... ...or even free of charge — after taxes and fees are paid on them, of course. Akiya banks are... The post Japan is Giving Away Country Homes for Free appeared first on The Gate.

The Baby Bump

The Baby Bump. Chelsea is four months along. Nearly at the halfway mark.   She never has felt sick, a bit sleepy, but other than that she feels good. Next month they will know the gender. The baby is due around June 15th. Of course, I am going to have a guessing game later on. Chelsea dreamed that she was having a boy, four dreams to be exact, and once the baby had a beard. Chelsea felt the baby move and so did I. Oh the joy of life.           [Author: French la Vie]

British Airways European Business Class in Four Photos

When you fly domestically in “first class” you get a bigger seat usually it’s two seats next to each other versus three in coach. You get something that passes for a meal, free drinks, and a checked baggage allowance. You get early boarding so you aren’t forced to get check your carry on bag when overhead bins fill up. But as a general matter there’s not a whole lot that’s special about the experience. Many Americans are surprised – shocked even – at what passes for business class in Europe, tho...

California Will Make Illegal Unemployment Payments to TSA Screeners as Wait Times Worsen

TSA is telling individual airports not to reveal the percentage of screeners calling in sick. Nationally though they’re releasing airport wait time statistics and those are bad – very bad. The Governor of California is encouraging TSA workers to claim unemployment benefits in his state despite guidance from the US Department of Labor saying it’s not legal to offer such payments. My Step-By-Step guide To Backpacking Europe

Updated: 1/19/19 | January 19th, 2019 Backpacking Europe is still one of my favorite things to as a traveler. There isn’t a year I don’t criss-cross the continent. I’ve been doing it for over close to thirteen years and it never gets old. During the summer, hostels brim with life, the Mediterranean sparkles, streets brim with people slowly drinking wine, and the late night setting suns leads to long wonderous days. During the winter, winter brings Christmas markets, skiing, fewer crowds, and ...

Is It Time For #vanlife?!? – Starting our Hunt For a Class-B Van RV

First off – lets answer the obvious questions… NO – we are not looking to sell or replace our vintage bus conversion Zephyr. Nor are we looking to give up on boat life aboard Y-Not! We still love the idea of spending roughly half the year on the water cruising in our boat, and half on land enjoying desert boondocking and extended explorations in our bus. And as we move the boat further north, winters will be a chilly incentive to get us off the water and out RVing more months each year. The catc...

Flipping Fujimi Dorayaki, Sydney

It was a late night sweets craving that led us to go to Fujimi Dorayaki, a brand new dorayaki outlet in Regent Place. The name comes from the word Dora which means gong that describes the pancakes shape. You may be familiar with the dorayaki if you've visited Japan or if you watch Doraemon the anime cat character who is somewhat obsessed with dorayaki. It is two hot pancakes sandwiched together with a filling. Typically the filling is red bean and the outside is a castella cake batter.

United Temporarily Unable to Book Award Space on 3 Star Alliance Airlines

Several blogs have reported that United Airlines is currently unable to book award space on Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways. In fact it goes beyond that to include TAP Air Portugal as well. They are able to book the space sometimes — but when space gets cancelled out by a partner they’ve got a real problem on their hands. It makes sense to stop making these bookings until they can get the problem fixed, recognizing this is a huge inconvenience to members (especially those trying to change cl...

Is Airport Lounge Access Upon Arrival Really Necessary?

“I wish there was room for everyone, but many cardholders have a legitimate reason to use the lounge upon arrival”, according to this article written by Matthew Klint of Live and Let’s Fly. “If AMEX wants to limit ‘camping’ in its lounges, fine. But don’t totally take away arrival access. How about for 1-2 hours after arrival? That seems like a fair compromise that limits ‘abuse’ by cardholders.” The aforementioned statements from Matthew Klint refer to the new policies announced from American E...

Why British Airways First Class is the World’s Second Best Business Class

Six or seven years ago Lucky from One Mile at a Time and I debated whether British Airways first class was 'the world's best business class.' At the time I still felt like BA's first offered something approximating a first class product, even if it wasn't one of the better or flashier ones. Now that same product, which BA is still flying, doesn't even qualify as the best business class out there.
