Hie Jinja

Hie Jinja is another shrine in Tokyo that was near our hotel. This one dates back to 830 and was started by a Shogun, a military order in control of Japan until the Emperor came into power. A cherry tree graces the entrance. I think I thought cherry tree blossoms were always pink but the most common kind in Japan are white. They can also be pink or yellow. There over 100 varieties in Japan with this white variety being the most common. This shrine was quite a climb up these stairs co...

Traditional Chilean food and dishes

Chile is undeniably beautiful. Patagonia, the lake district, the stunning Torres del Paine National Park — with all of these things to see, you’d be forgiven for looking over the country’s diverse food. However, for a real taste of Chile, you have to experience all of the eats on offer. Chilean food is a mix of ingredients and dishes from the indigenous Mapuche and the Spanish. Guide to Portugal's top wine routes

Long eclipsed by French Burgundys and Italian Chiantis, Portuguese wine hasn’t always garnered the attention it deserves, despite the nation’s wealth of vineyards and praiseworthy vintages. Its most iconic wine, port, is fortified with an unaged brandy. Then there’s vinho verde, or green wine, a lightly fizzy, lightly viridescent summer staple from northern Portugal. Add in the fortified wines moscatel and Madeira, sparkling wine, and rosé, and you’ve got your glass full before even consideri...

Tesla vaunts creation of ‘the best chip in the world’ for self-driving

At its “Autonomy Day” today, Tesla detailed the new custom chip that will be running the self-driving software in its vehicles. Elon Musk rather peremptorily called it “the best chip in the world…objectively.” That might be a stretch, but it certainly should get the job done. Called for now the “full self-driving computer,” or FSD Computer, it is a high-performance, special-purpose chip built (by Samsung, in Texas) solely with autonomy and safety in mind. Whether and how it actually outperfor...
