2020 Bentley Flying Spur Review: Superior comfort and performance

What can I say? It’s a Bentley. It’s lovely. The Bentley new Flying Spur is a luxury super sedan. It packs a larger engine than most sports cars, has four heavenly seats, and glides over the road like soap on a shower floor. This example costs $279,000, so I would expect nothing less. This sedan is supremely comfortable, and yet it packs a powerful punch. Bentley says the W12 engine lets it hit 207 mph though I had no reason to verify that claim. Going fast means arriving at a destination sooner...

The perils of following computer models intead of evidence based science...

Canada's response to the novel coronavirus, like much of the world, was based not so much on science as on computer generated model predictions.  Predictions of 200,000 people dying with no action taken, and even still 100K with mitigation efforts meant our health care system was forecast to be overrun with Covid-19 patients in either case.   Our ICUs didn't have the capacity to deal with all the patients computer models said would be resulting.  Ontario premier Doug Ford  released more recen...

A wonderfully ramshackle old Tokyo restaurant

When in a new area and it’s fast approaching lunch time, there’s always the hope that an interesting little place will present itself. And for me at least the Chinese restaurant below was pretty much perfect, as it’s old, cosy and happily displays all the dilapidation of its five-plus decades in operation.

Where do Australian intended parents go for overseas surrogacy?

The US remains the dominant country where Aussies go for surrogacy, according to statistics from the Department of Home Affairs, with 95 Aussie children born there obtaining Australian citizenship by descent in 2018-2019 year. Australian intended parents seemingly go everywhere that surrogacy might be available, according to statistics from the Department – which also reflects our status as a country of immigrants. Countries that would seemingly have no association with surrogacy nevertheless ar...

Another Day Another Walk

We met at the Orsay Museum again for another walk. A long boat serenely going by the Orsay Museum. A statue of Thomas Jefferson. He was the ambassador to France before he became president of the USA. The gardens are now open. This was the first day to enter the Tuleries Gardens. It was pretty empty at 8 am but I bet it was really full by the afternoon. The flowers bloomed even though there was no one there to see them.

Kinbrook Island Provincial Park – A Prairie Oasis

When Alberta Parks got the go-ahead back in May to open parks for camping at half capacity beginning in June, I was intent on getting some reservations to parks and backcountry campgrounds I’d never visited before. A getaway to local provincial parks may not be as exciting as travel to far-flung places around the globe, but I am truly thrilled just to be out of Calgary and exploring a new part of Alberta. Kinbrook Island Provincial Park, near Brooks in eastern Alberta is the first reservation ...

The future ain’t what it used to be in first Bill & Ted Face the Music Trailer

If there’s one lesson I’ve learned these last few months, it’s that life rarely works out as planned. One minute you’re the sole two members of the band whose music has been prophesied to heal the world and usher in a new era of peace, and the next you wake up middle-aged playing some barstool dive. One thing we can say for certain is that things didn’t quite workout as planned for the members of the Wyld Stallyns. Nearly 30 years after their Bogus Journey, San Dimas’s favorite sons have retu...
