Zero evidence for extending Ontario's state of emergency

Ontario's provincial legislature is set to debate continuing Ontario's state of emergency once again this coming week.  The state of emergency, which has already been extended several times, is set to end on June 30th.  If approved it would mean emergency measures would be in place until at least mid July.  These emergency measures are causing more death, pain and misery than they were designed to alleviate.  The cure has been worse than the disease.  Don't believe me?  Talk to someone who wa...

A terrifically askew old Tokyo tofu shop

The old tofu shop below has appeared on Tokyo Times before, but back then its incredibly large signboard was still proudly intact. Now why something so impressive is no longer in situ is a mystery. A typhoon did strike the capital around the same time period, so that could have damaged it, or maybe even ripped it off the roof. Who knows? Yet whatever did happen, it has never been put back or restored, and instead, a spot of renovation has taken place. Work that, without the sign as a visual dec...

Succulent Lamb Ribs With Kasundi!

Lamb ribs are such a wonderful and cost efficient lamb cut to use and kasundi (like a spiced chutney) is the perfect condiment to bake them in. It's as easy as smothering the ribs in kasundi and then baking them in the oven along with wedges of lemon to give these rich, delicious ribs a deliciously aromatic and piquant flavour. This is a pushy recipe Dear Reader (and you can use beef or pork ribs too!).

Camino

Maurice is once again doing the Camino de Santiago, this time with his grandson, Tom. I am along for technical support driving the car and carrying the luggage while doing my favorite thing: sightseeing. Our beginning point was Conques, a really lovely village. We’ve been before and love it. The stairs leading to our room. A little decoration in a window as you climb the stairs. Looking down from our room at the back of the cathedral. Some of the brothers in the order o...

Father's Day

Some of my father's and brothers' motorcycle trophies   It is funny how something comes out of nowhere, and it can remind us of someone, and they are right there beside us. Dad, no matter how far away I am, I always have you in my heart pocket. Memory: I am eight years old and riding in front of my Father on his motorcycle. We are rounding up the cows for milking. My Dad says that I am ready to ride on my own. I grab the throttle, I can feel him smiling. He says yes, you are ready and jumps off...

Eglise Saint-Pierre

This is the entrance to Saint Peter's Church in Collonges-la-Rouge. The church dates from the eleventh and twelfth centuries and is built with the Collonges' characteristic red sandstone. It's not a big church, but it has a lot of character. A fancy entrance to a modest church. Saturday was a beautiful day, sunny and pleasant. I was at the St.-Aignan market around 09h00, and it was quite busy. There were more vendors and more shoppers than I've seen there in the last few weeks, probably becaus...

How does obesity factor into the severity of Covid-19?

From the very start I've viewed social distancing and so called lockdown measures as being almost entirely useless.  Empahisis on the word almost because I do think there is some minimal benefit, but nothing that is worth the costs that Canadians have had to pay, and continue to pay.   I use the term "so called" when describing lockdown measures because nobody has ever been truly locked down.  People are still going to work, to pharmacies, bank atms, grocery stores, and much more.  We've simp...
