Ash vs Evil Dead (Season 3)

As I was going through my (insanely long) watchlist on Netflix, I realized that I hadn’t yet watched all of the third (and final) season of Ash vs Evil Dead. There’s no particularly reason for that, I’m sure I just got distracted at some point and forgot to watch the rest (I had only watched the first couple of episodes). It’s a happy discovery, as I’ve been having a blast watching it. The bad part though is that it’s making me feel upset again that they ended the show with this season. I’...

Lovecraft Country

I’m not completely caught up on this series (I think I’m a couple of episodes back), but despite some episodes being less interesting than others (due to the nature of having different themes for each one), Lovecraft Country has been fantastic. I think an especially standout thing to point out is the the soundtrack, which mixes contemporary songs (or at least songs that aren’t tied to the 1950s setting) with specific sequences of the show — a truly inspired one was the use of “Whitey’s on ...

Pink

October is breast cancer awareness month and to commemorate this, there were fireworks and then the Eiffel Tower was lit up in pink. When I arrived it was just its usual gold lighting. It’s hard to tell but it’s sparkling here. A lovely reflection in the glass looking towards the Eiffel Tower. I didn’t know there would be fireworks! It’s more lavender than pink actually. Closer up.

I visited two high-end California hotels to compare their reopenings and felt completely safe at both. Here's how they're taking care of guests — and why I hope some of these measures stick around.

Casa Terrazza at Hotel Casa del Mar in Santa Monica, CA. Hotel Casa del Mar Freelance writer Molly O'Brien visited two hotels in vastly different geographic locations — Santa Monica's Hotel Casa del Mar and Hotel Cerro in San Luis Obispo county — to compare and contrast their reopenings. While capacity and noise differed between the hotels, both had reopening plans with significant accommodations and enhanced safety protocols. O'Brien says neither experience felt cleaner or safer than the ...

Windy and wet

The wind kicked up late yesterday afternoon and into the night. It's not too bad, but I could definitely hear it gusting out there. There was also rain off and on during the dark hours. Today is a hunting day, so I need to get out with Tasha before 09h00. Last Sunday was the first hunt day of the season, but no hunters showed up out back. I'll see what happens today. The weather usually doesn't deter them unless it's very bad. Fall is creeping through the vineyards. Yesterday afternoon Tasha a...

The #Dubai-Istanbul Route, Once Rammed With Flights, Stays Silent - Bloomberg

The Dubai-Istanbul Route, Once Rammed With Flights, Stays Silent - Bloomberg: For years, passenger jets have darted back and forth between Istanbul and Dubai, the two main hubs connecting airline passengers in the Middle East with destinations across the globe. But when Turkish Airlines and Emirates began reviving their pandemic-depleted schedules a few weeks ago, that particular route remained closed except for a few scattered cargo operations. Emirates announced in June that the Istanbul fli...

The best science says masks have no benefit in limiting viral infection - Why are they mandated?

I've already shared this infomation in previous blog posts, that Randomized Control Trials are the so called "gold standard" when it comes to science.  Science is a process, it's not about right or wrong.  Science usually evolves, but with Covid science is going in the other direction, it's devolving.   The CDC did a pooled analysis of 10 RCTs and determined there was no statiscally significant benefit in infection control of a virus by having people in the community wear masks.  Since then h...
