A selection of my favourite photographs from 2020

With 2020 almost done and dusted, it’s time once again to choose my favourite photographs from the last 12 months. In Tokyo, we’ve somehow been spared the devastation experienced in so many other cities, but with Covid-19 numbers once again on the rise, and Japan lagging behind in regards vaccine approval, we certainly aren’t out of the woods just yet. Yet despite infection rates being relatively low, daily life here is still different, and just like so many other people, I‘ve personally been h...

Looking at Christmas decorations always makes me feel a bit festive at this difficult time of this year. Red is the theme in the Plaza Athénée. Most hotels won’t let you wander in now but they let us into the lobby. The Ritz Hotel didn’t. Wreaths and teddy bears. The tree at the Galerie Lafayette Champs Elysees. Closeup. Ending the day with a crepe is always a good idea.

Here’s What Travel Will Look Like in 2021, According to Psychics

As the daughter of an astrologer, I grew up learning about the lessons we can find in the skies above us. Though I'm not sure how much of it I prescribe to, I do find it interesting, and at times, an eerily accurate depiction of my life. While living in New York, I visited a psychic for a story I was writing many years ago. He not only curiously described my great grandmother, Elizabeth, who he said was my guardian angel, but he also correctly predicted the first letter of my now-fiance's...

Staycations and Hybrid Meetings

In what now feels like a distant time, when business travelers were jet-setting around the world to attend meetings and events, some would tack on a couple of extra days to explore and enjoy the destination - a phenomenon that (for better or worse) has been dubbed "bleisure travel." I've taken a few bleisure trips in my career, and last month while reminiscing about some of the more memorable ones, I felt like packing my bags and getting away. Unfortunately, the travel restrictions in pla...

Christmas in Paris 2020: Hotel de Ville

After taking photos of BHV Marais the other night, I walked across the street to Hotel de Ville, where there was a Christmas market in the front plaza. The market was festively decorated with an abundance of trees, some small shops, two carousels, lanterns, stars, and wood moose.   The highlight is the beautiful electric blue light bathing the outside of the building with animated snowflakes falling.   This is the last of my Christmas in Paris 2020 articles. Did you enjoy the series? ...
