A Tokyo kimono and winter ice cream

It was a cold day, quite windy too, but that clearly wasn’t going to deter this young woman from enjoying a winter, and obviously very welcome, ice cream.

THE Creamy, Smooth Hummus Recipe!

Regular hummus is great but there is nothing quite like a smooth hummus! As the name suggests, this hummus is creamy and gorgeously smooth and leaves chunky hummus behind. You can buy it of course but did you know that you can make a smooth hummus as good as bought using just one easy household ingredient?

Hearts

A few Valentines Day decorations I saw in Paris. Mariages Freres Tea shop. I went in to smell the Love tea which was a bit fruity, sort of like Marco Polo Red which I have so I didn’t buy any. Heart shaped and red desserts are for sale every where. Flowers too of course. Nothing to do with hearts but an intersting wall painting.

Book Review | The Chocolatier by Jan Moran

The Amalfi Coast and chocolate … what a winning combination! I was in the mood for something fun and sweet to read this month leading up to Valentine’s Day, so I pulled The Chocolatier by Jan Moran off my bookshelf and enjoyed a long distance mini book club reading it together with my Mom. Released last year, it’s a story of love, passion, and the search for family – with a big dollop of intrigue along the way. Because the story evolves with the uncovering of many secrets, I will be very careful...

Rivers Up 2021

As it straddles the Dronne river, the charm of the village of Bourdeilles comes from how houses, gardens, and empty fields are arranged on the river’s left and right banks. On the left bank is the town center, the Bourg. The right bank is host to the “not-quite town center”, the Faubourg.   Houses in the Bourg rise upward along the road leading up to the castle. A castle that is defensively perched on a rocky outcropping. It is literally overhanging the river.   Houses in the Fa...

Inside the donjon

So far I've only found one photo in my collection of the inside of the donjon (keep) at the Château de Loches. I think I may have more, but I obviously didn't label them well enough to find them easily. This one will have to do. Looking up inside the donjon walls at the medieval castle at Loches, June 2011. As you can see, the interior structure (beams, floors, walls, and anything else that was not made from stone) is gone. The tower is an empty shell, except for the traces of fireplaces and w...
