Bloom Here I Did

Bloom where you land. Bloom with the tiny seed, dirt, and rain. Trust in the elements that present themselves to you. So I did when I discovered the brocante. That was the beginning of truly falling in love with France. Tell me what watered you the seeds of who you are?                   [Author: French la Vie]

Tokyo Racecourse photographed in a very different time

The photograph below was taken just shy of 7 years ago — a day when 130,000 spectators squeezed into Tokyo Racecourse for the Japan Derby. Not that long ago really, and yet in the current climate it almost looks like another world. All those people, hardly any masks, and, pandemic comparisons aside, an almost complete absence of smartphones. 2014, it turns out, wasn’t half bad, and perhaps appropriately, the winner that year was One and Only.

Market

There’s nothing better than roaming around a French street market even if you don’t buy anything. Scallops are such a pretty shape. I’m not a huge fan of radishes but I love their shape and color. I’m not a fan of dirt left on potatoes but I’m sure these are really fresh. Orange carrots looking good. This cheese sort of looks like it got dropped on the ground but it’s actually covered with flowers. I’ve had it and I prefer it plain. And then maybe a stop f...

The info I sent to Monica and Morgan on 8 April 2021 about the new party being created

I’m sharing this since some people are asking why I did not work with Monica. Well, from 12 March 2021, she said to me on multiple occasions that she was no longer in politics and had reverted to the RDA’s “old” strategy of supporting good people. She specifically ruled out contesting any seat herself. Nevertheless, […]

My Bloody Valentine (1981)

I definitely remember the VHS box art for this movie, from when I was a kid, but I don’t think I ever got around to watching it — I wasn’t as much of a horror fan back then as I am now. Also, I didn’t know that this is a Canadian film — and after wondering where it was shot because the area and accents felt so familiar, I found out that it was shot in Nova Scotia, not far from where I grew up (in nearby New Brunswick). As for the movie, I thought it was a pretty decent 80s slasher flick — ...

Quarantine Culture And Its Legacy For Hotels | By Larry Mogelonsky

One of the main thrusts behind the term 'the new normal' has been to emphasize the binary and irreversible shift in many of our behavioral patterns and cultural norms. Now, with many leading scientists insinuating that pre-pandemic international travel levels won't properly return until the whole world reaches herd immunity – which will take several years – this will ultimately result in many aspects of this 'quarantine culture' enduring for quite some time.

Chard

These are blettes (Swiss chard), sometimes also called bettes and many other names depending on where you are. Once the seedlings get bigger, they'll go out into the garden. Blette (chard) sprouts. The seedlings have pink stems, but they'll turn white as the plants grow. Now that the saints de glace are behind us (...
