As Demand Returns For Groups and Events, Let’s Not Slip Back Into “Order-taking” | By Doug Kennedy

Based on the conversations I’m having with clients and contacts it seems that demand for groups and events is coming quicker than expected. As they return to their old “chairs,” this is a great time for leaders to set new goals and/or for self-motivated sales supernovas to create new habits for themselves.

Cancer and a life cut horribly short

Back in April, I mentioned the very sad news about my wife’s terminal cancer and the limited amount of time she had left. Heartbreakingly, that time has now been and gone. Tough beyond belief, and stoic right until the very end, Akiko died last week — her life cut horribly short at the age of just 43. The world keeps turning of course, but it’s without a doubt a darker place without the light of kindness and fun Akiko brought to it. A shadow that obviously looms very large in my life, as I lost ...

indigenous peoples day at the kwalilas hotel in port hardy

On Indigenous Peoples Day, the day of the summer solstice, we attended a ceremony held by the local First Nations communities outside the Kwa'lilas Hotel, the beautiful Indigenous-owned hotel in Port Hardy. I purposely didn't bring a camera, thinking photography was prohibited -- only to discover that because this was a public demonstration, not being held in the Nation's Big House, photography was acceptable. I did take a few pics with my cell phone, but these barely count as photography.I am s...

Eiffel Lake Hike in Banff National Park

The Eiffel Lake hike in Banff National Park is one fantastic outing with only one downside – it’s hard to score a parking space at the Moraine Lake trailhead though fortunately there are ways to mitigate that described below. There is nothing difficult about the Eiffel Lake hike. There are no route-finding issues and the 11.2 km return distance and 400 m elevation gain are well within reach of any regular hiker.  Despite the fact this is what I would call a moderate hike, I did it with Joel Ha...

Athens Street Art – discover these amazing murals and artists!

Since the financial crisis of 2009 and the austerity years that followed, the Athens street art scene has been a way of telling stories about the Greek reality, an outlet for protest against punishing hardship and unemployment. In Athens, graffiti has always been entwined with political opinion and dissent. The term comes from the Greek word Graffito, “to write” and no doubt the ancient Greeks were scrawling political slogans on alley walls many centuries ago!
