"Climate change is a serious problem and tourism contributes a lot to it, but I don’t want to be flight-shamed out of my travels..."

"... because I think travel is a powerful force for peace and stability on this planet. So my company has a self-imposed carbon tax of $30 per person we take to Europe. In 2019, we gave $1 million to a portfolio of organizations that are fighting climate change. We gave half that amount in 2020, even though we stopped bringing people to Europe after the pandemic hit. It’s nothing heroic. It’s just the ethical thing to do."   Says Rick Steves, quoted in  (NYT). I say: What bullshit! He's got ...

PechaKucha

The scene at one of the PechaKucha Nights I used to produce at the SuperDeluxe event space in Tokyo. This is not to say that I left PechaKucha completely behind after I left Tokyo and the organization back in 2015. I’m still a strong proponent of the format, and have regularly encouraged its use at Ubisoft, within vari...

Lend me your ears

The two mysterious cornfields up among the vineyards are still standing. The stalks are turning brown and some of the ears are beginning to show their niblets. I've noticed that, down in the valley, most of the cornfields have been harvested. I wonder when (and if) these two little parcels will get harvested. Is it a local farmer who's growing his own feed corn for a few animals, or is someone just planting for fun? Or appearances? I may never know. Corn kernels peeking through the husk. Tonig...
