Designing the Perfect Quick Getaway to Oklahoma City

In recent years I’ve firmed embraced the concept of micro-vacations; quick weekend getaways to new spots. Sure, I also love those weeklong adventures halfway around the planet, but I’ve learned the necessity of leaving home more frequently as a way to decompress and mentally reset myself. Any trip we take has benefits, and most recently I found myself enjoying those benefits in Oklahoma City. I had briefly visited the capital of Oklahoma while driving Route 66, but since spending 12 hours (...

September travel for families

In September, family vacations come to a screeching halt. Kids focus on school, reuniting with classmates, meeting new teachers, and starting in on schoolwork. Yet September is a great time to travel. In the northern hemisphere, the weather is lovely and the days still long, but the tourist crowds have gone home. Prices for everything from airfare to hotels can be better, as well — and for many, those affordable prices may be the most feasible opportunity to take the whole fam on vacation. We...

7 epic family vacations

There’s a great big world out there waiting to be discovered — one chock full of fun, surprising, and mind-expanding experiences. So why would you visit a fake castle when you can see a real one? Are sweaty actors in Mickey costumes really more exciting than black bears in the wild? Can dry ice on a Disney stage compete with dozens of geysers spewing steam fifty feet into the air? Add to that the expense of a Disney visit, including airfare, hotels, entrance and parking fees, and costly food, c...

Washington D.C. 3 Famous Buildings and Museums

First off I decided to head to the Capitol Building as I had only seen the back of it when taking a walk a couple of days earlier. I would liked to have gone inside but they are very strict and with the high humidity I was unwilling to give up my bottle

Favorite Experiences in Washington, DC – Thoughts From A Local

Even though I spend a good part of my time traveling the world, ultimately I am very proud of my hometown – Washington, DC. The American capital, sometimes we get overshadowed by other US cities that may be a little more flashy, which is why I thought I’d share some of my favorite things to do in DC. My Perfect Washington DC Luxury Weekend in 3 Steps

I’m guilty of oftentimes ignoring the great city that I call home. It’s not from a lack of love or admiration; ever since I first moved here in 2000 I have found myself falling deeper in love with Washington, DC every year. But especially in recent years, I find myself all too often ignoring the many great sights and attractions that draw visitors from all over the world. I’ll fly down to Antarctica, but you won’t find be on the National Mall during a spring weekend. That makes me sad, so a coup...

16 moments I didn’t expect to have in Cuba

MY FIRST EXPERIENCE OF CUBA could not have been more different from my second. My first visit was for a wedding in Varadaro, a kind of “roped off” resort area. The endless mojitos were killer but I knew there was an entire culture I wasn’t reaching, and that I’d have to come back. So, I came back — four years later — this time walking on average 15km a day, camera in hand, and with no agenda. I crossed the invisible border (the Passio de Prado, which runs along the Capitol Building) that seems t...
