15th Anniversary of Eye Prefer Paris

On June 26, 2006 I launched Eye Prefer Paris, and last Friday was the 15th anniversary. Here’s the first post I wrote.   About This blog This blog is about how a native New Yorker dreamed of moving to Paris …… and what he discovered once he got there. Come live this Paris dream vicariously through the eyes(and ears) of Richard Nahem. He writes his blog from his 18th century apartment overlooking tree-lined Place St. Paul in the fashionable Marais district of Paris. I had no idea wha...

Granville

After visiting the Princess Grace exhibit at Christian Dior Museum, I exited the garden and took the long stairway down to the beach. The long stretch of beach was wild and rugged with boulders and craggy rocks leading to the Caribbean color palate of the sea. Looking up to the cliffs I saw patches of rock and grass, topped by large houses perched on the edges.   I discovered there was an old part of the city after walking through the archway of an ancient exposed stone building. It had t...

Princess Grace Exhibit at Christian Dior Museum, Granville

Last week I took a spontaneous trip from Paris to see the Princess Grace Exhibit in Granville, Normandy. It was a bit of a long day trip, 3 hours and fifteen minutes each way from Gare Montparnasse.   I arrived about noon and it was a blustery day, with the sun teasing in and out of the thick clouds overhead.   The Christian Dior Museum is the home where Christian Dior grew up in the early 1900s. In his memoir, “ Christian Dior et Moi”, he states, "I have most tender and amazed mem...

Welcoming spring at Echigo Hillside Park

When we were living in Dubai, the only chance we had to see real tulips was inside a lobby of a five star hotel. Dubai is awesome like that, if you can’t get to the real flowers, they bring it in. These flowers are imported from far flung countries and handled with so much care so we desert dwellers could enjoy looking at it like they were freshly picked. So our kids – they have seen tulips that were picked and put in a vase but not the tulips growing from the ground! One of the best things ab...

Christian Dior, Couturier du Reve

Every year there’s at least one must-see exhibit I urge people to see and if they have to, plan a special trip here to see it. In 2016 it was the Shchukin Collection, an exhibit, which showed one of the greatest art collections of the 19th century, owned by Russian collector Sergei Shchukin. For 2017 it’s without question the Christian Dior, Couturier du Reve. Marking the 70th anniversary of the legendary fashion house, it’s an all out, grand celebration that is truly exhilarating and magi...
