Return to the Luberon: Ansouis

Another lovely village we visited in the Luberon was Ansouis. Officially named one of the most beautiful villages in France, Ansouis is the Luberon at its best.   The population is just over 1,000 people, and the residents take much pride in the upkeep of limestone facades of their ancient homes by maintaining beautiful vines, plants and flowerpots.   Two other highlights of Ansouis is the impressive 12th century chateau and the Saint Martin  C hurch.   ...

Best Places to Take Your Pet For Holiday

Bringing your pet on your vacation can make it much better. Of course, sometimes it can be more complicated as you have to choose proper animal-friendly places, bring the best dog food that will last through the trip, or select particular kinds of activities that you can do together. Nevertheless, it is worth it, as you don't have to leave your four-legged friends with other people, pay for animal hotels, or worry about your pet's well-being. Still, if you plan to bring your pet for a trip, y...

Boats On The Seine

Two weeks ago, I posted a photo series of reflections on the Seine, and I received many compliments from you. (CLICK HERE to view them).   I am still taking my brisk, power walks along the Seine and I recently shot a series of mostly barges and utility boats. As I was watching them, I pondered where are they going, where are the captain and the crew from, what are they transporting and why, and a host of other curiosities.   Do you like the black and white photos?    I want to th...

Seine River Reflection Photos

A few times a week I do a 40-minute power walk along the Seine River. About five years ago when the city permanently closed portion of the highway below the Seine and turned into a mixed use bicycle, jogging, and walking path.   My usual route is I enter the pathway at an off ramp by quai de Celestins by Pont Marie, and walk west, up to the Pont Neuf and then make my return.   Last week, Tuesday was an exceptionally beautiful spring day, and I started my walk at about 8:15am. It was l...

April in Paris 2021- The Tuileries

Mother Nature continues to spread her magic this April in Paris and her recipients have been all the better for it.   Last Thursday was a friend of mine’s birthday, so we met in the Tuileries by fountain near the Arc du Carrousel to celebrate. We pulled up some of the classic green enamel chairs and surprised our friend with two small cakes from our Les Trois Chocolats in the Marais. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to indulge in the cake feast, as I am on a strict diet. It was a blustery day...

April in Paris-Early Spring in Le Marais

I was walking through the haute-Marais last week on the way to discover a home design shop (more about that next week) and noticed the flowers and trees were beginning to burst their buds. The cherry blossoms were already in full bloom, the wisteria were beginning to show their delicate, dropping flowers,   the Linden trees in the Place des Vosges were starting to sprout their green leaves, and the parks and squares had flowers beds planted with vivacious flowers.   I’m looking forward t...

Villa Guibert

In many neighborhoods of Paris, there are private, gated streets and cul de sacs. Usually, they are made up of large, attached individual homes and are  a mélange of architectural styles, not only Haussmmanian style buildings.   I was in the 16th arrondissement running an errand last week. After exiting the rue de la Pompe metro station, I walked on rue de La Tour and noticed an ornate wrought iron gate with Villa Guibert on it. I also saw the gate was open, and I discreetly slipped insid...

Marais Shadow Photos

Spring is in the air in Paris and Mother Nature is beginning to bestow her spring bounty of flowers, trees, and plants.   The days are getting longer, and the light is changing, which means the shadows on the streets and sidewalks are sharper and longer. As I was strolling through the streets of the Marais on a sunny day last week, I captured the shadows of tree branches, signposts, benches, and lamp posts.   I started sharing my shadow photos a few years ago. Here are links other blo...

Paris In The Snow 2021: Parc Monceau

Late on Tuesday night it started to snow, and I prayed it would stick until morning. Since it was so cold out, 27 degrees Fahrenheit, when I woke up, it indeed stuck. I looked down on the rue Saint Antoine and people were trudging in the snow wearing boots. I hurriedly did my morning routine- breakfast, reading The Guardian and The New York Times online, Qi Gong exercise video, and shower- and headed to Parc Monceau. I had taken snow photos there about ten years ago, and I wanted revisit.   ...

Paris In The Snow 2021-Series 1

The last time in snowed in Paris was March 2018, so when snow was predicted for last Saturday, I was ecstatic. While playing in the snow for most people consists of snowball fights, building snowmen, and snow sports, my idea of playing in the snow is taking photos. Some of my best and happiest photographic moments have been walking through the snow in parks, gardens, and squares, braving the cold, fighting the snow so it doesn’t sting my eyes, and balancing my camera so it doesn’t get wet.   ...

Palais Royal & Louvre Photos-Series 1

It was a rare, clear and sunny day on Sunday, and while I was at the Palais Royal preparing for my Facebook Live Emily in Paris event this Wednesday, the late afternoon sun, light, and shadows was glorious. I hadn’t been taking much in the way of photos since Christmas, so it felt good to finally give my camera a workout. After I left the Palais Royal, I walked down rue de Rivoli facing the Louvre and there were some interesting reflections in the windows. I walked further down heading toward...

Ca' Scarpa, a new exhibition space in Treviso, celebrates Venetian architects Carlo Scarpa & his son, Tobia

Entrance to Ca' Scarpa - Photo: Cat Bauer (Venice, Italy) A new exhibition space opens in Treviso celebrating the great Venetian architects, Carlo Scarpa, and his son, Tobia. The ancient church of Santa Maria Nova was suppressed under Napoleon, then went on to be used as a print warehouse for the Finance Authority. Thanks to Luciano Benetton, one of the co-founders of the Benetton Group, it was recently acquired by Edizione Property, and transformed into a spacious, contemporary cult...

Ile de Re Shadow Photos

On my trip to Ile de Re last month, I went out in the late afternoon one day and the light was just gorgeous. I started to notice the strong and graphic shadows of the trees on the buildings, garden walls, and doors. I’ve done a few other series of shadow photos in the past two years, and I’ve added this series to it.   Do you like these photos and do you have some favorites?   Please watch my la...
