Zee5 announces TikTok-esque service HiPi, not launching immediately

In the aftermath of TikTok’s ban, Zee5 announced on Wednesday that it would be releasing HiPi, a short video platform of its own. Entrackr first broke the story on HiPi’s impending launch on June 18. That story said that HiPi will be a part of Zee5, as opposed to launching as a separate app, a Zee spokesperson told MediaNama that HiPi will indeed...

India’s app ban decision ‘suspects’ of violating WTO rules: Chinese Embassy

The Chinese Embassy in India, on Tuesday, alleged that India’s decision to ban 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, WeChat, Cam Scanner, and UC Browser, “abuses national security exceptions, and suspects of violating the WTO rules”. Extract from my email on India, China and Australia

EXTRACT It is hard to find people who can pierce through the veil of religious fanaticism that’s been cultivated by extremist politicians over the past century in India. Tea at The Ritz

My blog post in September about my niece staying at The Ritz Paris prompted two invitations to the hotel for lunch and tea. Lucky me! My friend Cheryl is a retired French teacher from St. Louis and comes to Paris at least once a year. This year she came twice and two weeks ago she invited me to tea, since she hadn’t been to The Ritz since the renovation was completed in June. The newly designed Salon Proust is in honor of writer Marcel Proust, who was a frequent guest at the hotel and sai...
