PayPal Partnership Proves Successful as Travelers Emerge from Pandemic | By Krista Bentley

Travel shoppers today have many options when it comes to paying for travel. Often, consumers don’t think twice before considering which payment method to use—they go with what’s familiar or use the credit card that earns the most rewards or miles. In this post, we’ll discuss how PayPal worked with us to remind shoppers at the beginning of the customer journey that not only is PayPal a safe and secure payment method, but it also comes with many of the same perks as other payment methods.

All Hawaii News is now a registered nonprofit with big plans ahead

Lauer  Good news for readers, researchers and donors! All Hawaii News is now a certified 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization registered with the IRS, the state Department of the Attorney General and the Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs. That means your donation is likely tax-deductable. The IRS has listed All Hawaii News as a library. And that's great. Because that's the intent of forming the nonprofit -- to create a new, in-depth website to archive recaps and links t...

Now accepting personal donations via Paypal

Dear all, things are now at a stage when I’d be happy to receive donations to support my ongoing work. I have twice in my life cut short my career mid-stream to fight for principles. The first was my resignation in January 2001 from India’s senior civil service (IAS) in protest against the corruption of […]

Les Extatiques-Outdoor Art Installation at La Defense

I am a big fan of outdoor art and sculpture installations and always like the contrast between the art and the surrounding elements of nature and architecture.   La Defense is currently exhibiting the 2021 version of Les Extatiques, where contemporary artists and sculptors are invited to install their works on the esplanade. This year there are nine artists showing their artworks and below are photos and commentary.  Note that there are actually two installations, one in the  La Defense, ...

Eye Prefer Paris 16th Anniversary

I want to thank and acknowledge everyone who has read Eye Prefer Paris, and especially want to thank my loyal subscribers who have received my posts by email over the years.  I would like to continue distribution of my blog via email instead of you needing to remember to visit my website, but in order to keep up your "Parisian content fix," I need your help. Boats On The Seine

Two weeks ago, I posted a photo series of reflections on the Seine, and I received many compliments from you. (CLICK HERE to view them).   I am still taking my brisk, power walks along the Seine and I recently shot a series of mostly barges and utility boats. As I was watching them, I pondered where are they going, where are the captain and the crew from, what are they transporting and why, and a host of other curiosities.   Do you like the black and white photos?    I want to th...

Paris Cafes Reopen

I decided to gift you a bonus post this week in celebration of Paris reopening from the COVID pandemic on May 19.   I was overjoyed strolling through the Marais yesterday and seeing all the outdoor cafes open and thriving. The sun was peeking through while Parisians were eating, drinking, smoking, laughing, smiling, and people watching. It’s human nature that we take things for granted while we have them and don’t realize how precious they are to our everyday existence when we don’t have ...

Taxes for Expats 2021

All American expats must file their U.S. taxes, regardless of whether they have earned money in the U.S. or not. The tax deadline for U.S. expats for the year 2020 is June 15, 2021.     I have been using the services of Taxes for Expats, a company that specializes in preparing U.S. tax filing services for U. S. citizens living abroad, for the last eight years and have been thoroughly satisfied with them. They are efficient and quickly respond to questions within 24 hours.   Taxes for...

Cobblestones On The Rue Prevot

Just a few doors from my apartment is a narrow pedestrian street, that’s more like a passageway. A few weeks ago, while it was raining, I walked through rue Prevot, and as I looked down, the wet surface of the cobblestones were glistening. It created an interesting and intriguing texture and heightened color of them. I started taking photos and I liked the way they looked, so I am sharing them with you.   Please let me know if you like them.   I want to thank everyone for watching m...

Private Lunch At Fauchon Hotel

About a month ago, I received an email from the publicist for the Fauchon Hotel on place Madeleine, that the hotel was removing the beds from the rooms on one floor and converting them into private dining rooms. She also mentioned that the hotel manager was using one of the rooms to host private, one on one lunches, with journalists and wanted to know to if I was interested. I immediately said yes, as I was thrilled to actually go out for lunch, which I haven’t done since last summer.  I a...

Easter 2021: Jacques Genin Chocolate Easter Eggs

Every year I do a personal Easter egg hunt and search for the most imaginative Easter creations at pastry shops and chocolatiers around Paris. It’s always a joy and a surprise what these pastry and chocolate wizards are up to and how they transform Easter eggs into art.   I visited various shops in the past few days, and some were disappointing, and a few had some interesting choices, but there was nothing they knocked my socks off until I visited Jacques Genin. If you don’t know who Jacq...

Investors Bet Big on Latest Pharma Tech Start-Up ClinTex | By Alan Young

In 2014, Brendan Mannion was in Vienna, Austria, for the DIA Forum, watching as his business partner delivered a presentation on the application of data analytics within clinical trials. The annual forum attracts healthcare professionals from around the world, setting the stage for high-level discussions of current issues and the future of patient care. That year, it also set the stage for a new idea - one that would change the course of Mannion's career and, potentially, the lives of man...

Facebook re-brands digital coin Libra as Diem

The Libra Association, Facebook Inc’s digital coin project, will now be called the “Diem Association” as part of the social media giant’s attempt to rebrand and restructure. While Facebook had released a white-paper for Libra in June last year, the project did not take off as central banks and regulators had raised several concerns over the attempts to create the world’s first digital coin which would be backed by a basket of currencies. Stuart Levey, chief executive officer, Diem Association t...

Happy Thanksgiving 2020

Here is my annual Thanksgiving blog. Enjoy! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and for the last fourteen years I have published this French Thanksgiving vocabulary list, courtesy of my former New York French teacher, Luc Georges. Since Thanksgiving is not an official holiday in France, many ex-pats postpone their Thanksgiving dinner for Friday or Saturday, but some are traditionalists and make it on Thursday. The advantage is that if you play your cards right, you may get invi...

Door(s) of the Month: Ile de Ré

Dear Subscribers, I posted the wrong link for the Connie Fredericks Malone video concert last Friday. Click here for the correct link. When I was in Ile de Re´ in mid-September, I took a walk in the late afternoon and discovered lots of wonderful doors. The late day light was casting a golden hue, saturating the colors and details of the doors. Many of the doors were bordered with late summer flowers and vines.   Do you have some favorites here?   ...
