Yet for all those variables, 22 Long Rifle has never really been an option for personal defense—until now. Federal Premium introduces Punch 22 LR, a new load using a first-of-its-kind 29-grain nickel-plated lead-core bullet, pushed at maximum velocities for the deepest penetration through short-barrel handguns. Shipments of this product have begun to arrive at dealers.

Punch 22 LR

“Self-defense isn’t one size fits all. So, whether shooters want to carry a 22 LR handgun as a backup gun, do not feel comfortable with centerfire pistols, or simply want to get more versatility from a rimfire handgun,” said Federal’s Rimfire Product Manager, Dan Compton, “Punch makes the 22 LR cartridge a viable defensive choice for the first time ever.”

The Punch 22 LR bullet is a departure from standard 22 LR design. It features a flat nose and utilizes a heavy nickel-plated jacket around a lead core. So not only does it travel faster than competing 22 projectiles, but its design also deliberately minimizes expansion and retains weight to maintain sufficient straight-line penetration. That is a lot to ask from a .22 bullet, which is why other manufacturers have shied away from the challenge. But Federal’s engineering team pulled it off, giving America’s favorite cartridge a chance to prove itself for protection.

“We’ve talked about making a 22 LR defensive load for some time. We finally decided that people are already carrying 22 LRs, so we might as well build a .22 bullet optimized for protection,” said Compton. “After much research, we decided that for a .22 LR defense bullet, penetration was more important than expansion.”

Colt Buntline by Master Engraver Howard Dove – VIDEO http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/L7L8joYS2gk/

U.S.A.-(AmmoLand.com)- Colt’s Single Action Army (SAA) revolver is one of the most well-known guns of all time. Known colloquially as the Peacemaker, this revolver and the Winchester 1873 lever-action rifle are often regarded as the “Guns that Won the West.”

Many people often attribute the saying, “God made man, but Sam Colt made them equal” to be a reference to the SAA, but Sam had been dead for more than a decade before the gun was introduced. While the overall design of the gun has stayed relatively the same since it was first introduced in 1873, there have been three distinct periods of manufacture. They are referred to as First Generation (1873-1941), Second Generation (1956-1974), and Third Generation (1976-today).

The SAA is, by far, one of the most popular canvases for the art of engraving, and examples from all skill levels can be seen at practically any local gun show. It’s the true showstopper guns that are few and far between.

Colt Buntline SAA engraved by Howard Dove (Lewis & Grant Auctions)

Master Engraver Howard Dove held the distinction of being one of only two people to have held the position of Master Engraver with both Colt and Winchester – at the same time! It’s a really big deal to be considered a Master Engraver, and an honor to have that title at just one of those companies, but to be a Master Engraver for both is a testament to Dove’s tremendous skill and ability.

Mr. Dove’s clientele has included such luminaries as Gene Autry, Sammy Davis Jr., Hank Williams Jr., John Wayne, his son Michael Wayne, Tom Selleck, and numerous US and foreign government officials.

Colt Buntline SAA engraved by Howard Dove (Lewis & Grant Auctions)

Founded in 1980, the Colt Collectors Association has more than 2,600 members worldwide who are dedicated to the preservation of Colt firearms and other items produced by the Company, along with the study of the history relating to their development and usage. Each year at their annual meeting, an auction gun is presented as the centerpiece of their fundraising efforts. Each year it’s a different gun with a different theme by a different engraver.

In 1993, they selected Howard Dove to engrave a Buntline Single Action Army tied to the meeting’s location. That year, it was St. Louis, Missouri. Because of a Buntline’s long barrel, Howard had plenty of canvas to work with. He included the Gateway Arch, a steamboat, a sailboat, a bust of Mark Twain, references to the Mississippi River, and more, all of which was beautifully highlighted in gold and complemented with traditional scrollwork. A set of genuine ivory grips with scrimshaw images of a trapper and a Native American round out the complete package.

The level of engraving on this gun is what the Colt Custom Shop would refer to as its base to be “D Master Engraved Signed.” This is above and beyond your traditional D Master Engraved Signed piece of work, but for reference, that level of work starts at $13,000 and doesn’t include engraving on the front sight and hammer or any gold inlay, all of which this gun has plenty.

Created for the 1993 Colt Collectors Assn meeting, this Colt Buntline SAA was engraved by Howard Dove (Logan Metesh)

The auction guns from the Colt Collectors Association’s annual meetings are highly prized by collectors, as no two are exactly alike and each one holds its own place in Colt history and engraving history. That means it’s quite a rare treat that this gun will be available in the May 2021 sale from Lewis & Grant Auctions.

Speaking With Former SEAL Team 6 Member About “Surviving Mann” http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/bwhkhtUuB48/

U.S.A.-(AmmoLand.com)- Don Mann lived an exciting life. He joined the Navy as a Corpsman before trying out for the Navy SEALS. Mann went through BUDS and loved it. While in the SEALS, he learned about a new team on the SEALS led by Richard Marcinko. Mann decided he needed to push himself to join this very elite team of operators. This unit became known as SEAL Team Six and later renamed the Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU).

After Mann left the military, he missed pushing himself, so he started running Iron Man competitions, including two in one day. Mann then took it to the level and started running “adventure races.” These races can include paddling, biking, horse riding, paragliding, mountaineering, and rappelling. The race distances can be hundreds of miles long and multi-day events.

Mann is also a New York Times selling author of 22 books, including this autobiography, Inside SEAL Team SIX: My Life and Mission with America’s Elite Warrior . He has been featured on multiple television shows, attempted to climb Everest, and became a motivational speaker.

Mann’s latest adventure is a new TV show titled “Surviving Mann.” The show is co-hosted by former UFC Champion and star of such movies as the Expendables, Randy Couture. In the show, Mann pushing contestants to their breaking point as he puts them through the same challenges he faced.

I have had the opportunity to get to know Don Mann and think that the AmmoLand readers can learn a lot from him. I asked him to do an interview for AmmoLand, and he agreed.

John: What is “Surviving Mann?”

Don: “Surviving Mann” takes place at Frontsight Nevada, outside of Las Vegas, from 8 – 13 May 2021.

Surviving MANN is all about reaching beyond boundaries. The televised event is actually a world-class selection course, unlike no other. The concept of the show is that I am looking for a qualified, skilled, and experienced operator to conduct a highly classified and dangerous mission with me so, we created a rigorous training and selection course to help find the right person.

There are 32 very qualified and experienced contestants from all walks of life who will battle it out in this very challenging Special Operations course. There will be a SEAL Team-style physical training session every morning to start each day.

John: How did you get involved in the project?

Don: The Executive Producer of the show had the idea about eight years ago. He briefed me on the concept, and I agreed to doing it with him. This past year, everything fell into place. He lined up the sponsors, the advertisers and found the perfect location to hold the event – Frontsight Nevada.

John: Who is your co-host?

Don: Randy Couture, legendary mixed martial arts champion and feature film star, is my co-host. Randy, also a veteran, said that he liked what we were doing, and he believed in the project. The Executive Producer reached out to Randy and invited to be my co-host.

John: How did you design the course?

Don: Although I designed the course to be focused on shooting, I added other elements as well so that the contestants would be challenged in many ways other than just shooting. For a participant to complete the course, they need to not only be proficient in pistol, long gun and shotgun range, and tactical shooting they need to be fit, strong, fast, able to navigate in the desert and underground, able to traverse high-ropes and in other ways in which we will not disclose until the start of the event. The participants signed up for a challenge, and I promised them all that they will all be challenged a great deal!

John: How did you find the contestants?

Don: We put out a casting call asking for interested personnel to submit an application along with a video. We received over 600 applications, and 32 were chosen. The backgrounds and experience of the chosen 32 are very impressive!

John: The show involves shooting guns, and gun rights are under attack. Are you worried that will hurt the show?

Don: Surviving Mann does promote shooting, weapons safety, and defensive shooting. I’m sure some of the folks in the anti-gun communities will not be a fan of the show, but it is not our intent to try and please everybody.

John: We have talked about the Second Amendment, and you are a huge supporter of gun rights. Why do you think so many politicians are going after guns?

Don: I am a supporter of gun rights. We always need the ability to defend ourselves and our families. We have all seen the devastations in other countries where they took away their citizens’ rights to bear arms. It is my belief that the politicians who are going after our guns are doing so solely for political purposes. I have failed in seeing any sound reasoning from any politician who thinks taking the guns away from law-abiding citizens will make this a safer country. There are gun laws on the books, and it is many of these same politicians who fail to enforce these laws.

John: What is your favorite gun?

Don: I like the M-4, the Remington 700, the subcompact Glock .45

Below The Radar – Firearms Safety Act http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/QSk0vQRWaXc/ Below The Radar – Firearms Safety Act, Gun-Safe-iStock-1031564278-C5Media

United States – -(AmmoLand.com)- These days, the phrase “gun safety” has become something that makes Second Amendment supporters clench their teeth in frustration, mostly because anti-Second Amendment extremists have co-opted the phrase in order to inflict injustice on tens of millions of Americans for crimes and acts of madness they didn’t commit. Not only that, the hijacking of “gun safety” has obscured real efforts to help Americans safely and responsibly exercise their Second Amendment rights, notably from the National Rifle Association.

One of those real efforts is S 788, the Firearms Safety Act introduced by Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS). Senator Marshall is a Second Amendment champion whose efforts we have covered here before, notably the Home Defense and Competitive Shooting Act, which he introduced in the House of Representatives in 2019. Marshall rightly deserved the backing of Second Amendment supporters for his 2020 Senate run.

The Firearms Safety Act provides for a $100 tax credit for a gun safe (eligibility is limited to one claim every ten years) and a $100 tax credit for firearms safety training (each year). Senator Marshall has even taken a precaution to ensure that these credits can’t be used as a form of backdoor gun registration.

If there is anything to quibble about, it is the paltriness of the tax credits, particularly for gun safes. A look at the Cabela’s site shows that of 77 gun safes and vaults, 43 are over $500. Furthermore, the safes are very different in terms of need. Some are meant for storing long guns, but others are meant to have a handgun available relatively quickly for home defense. It would seem logical to up the limit to twice in a ten-year period, and maybe to boost the gun safe credit to $250.

For training, the issue is not as severe, given that the $100 tax credit is available every year. The question, though, centers around what sort of training. The NRA has an online basic pistol course for $60. But some of those who anticipate using their firearms in a personal-defense situation may want more advanced training, like what the Massad Ayoob Group provides, and that can easily reach $2,000, plus lodging and other expenses. Here, the training tax credit should be upped, and not limited to one course.

It isn’t enough for Second Amendment supporters to publicly beat back the attacks from anti-Second Amendment extremists, they need to make being a responsible firearm owner easier, and in visible ways. The Firearms Safety Act is one of those ways that will benefit all of us down the road, but with the current anti-Second Amendment regimes, it will have a hard time passing.

Second Amendment supporters should politely urge their Representative and Senators to support this legislation. In addition, they need to support the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action and Political Victory Fund to ensure that the current anti-Second Amendment regimes in the House, Senate, and White House are defeated at the ballot box as soon as possible.

Trouble Follows You Home – More Self Defense Gun Stories http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/qVvimUYzZOU/ Trouble Follows You Home – More Self Defense Gun Stories

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- You probably didn’t see this news covered by the mainstream media, but again last week, responsible gun owners defended themselves and the people they love. Self-defense instructor Robyn Sandoval joins the Self Defense Gun Stories Podcast to look at four new examples. Were these gun owners lucky, or did they have a plan? (21-minute audio)

document.createElement('audio'); http://traffic.libsyn.com/dgustories/sdgs233.mp3 First story- Do you have a firearm nearby at night?

You’re asleep in bed. It is 3 in the morning when you hear a noise downstairs. You are a woman living alone, so it isn’t a housemate. You grab your gun and go see what is happening in your apartment. You see a stranger in your home. The news story doesn’t give us any details, but you shoot your intruder. He runs away and you stop shooting. You call 911.

15 minutes later, the police arrest your intruder at the local hospital. He is treated and then arrested for burglary and terroristic threats.

Second Story- Are you armed when you visit grandma?

You got the call that no one wants to hear. One of the kids hit Grandma in the head and stole her car. The rest of the family is trying to get grandma to a doctor. They want your help if the grandchild comes back. That makes sense since her attacker is a large 29 year old male with a history of problems and a criminal record. You go to grandma’s house.

It is 10 pm when the attacker comes back with grandma’s car. You get between grandma and the door. You tell her attacker to drop the keys and leave. He moves toward you. You’re armed. You present your firearm and shoot him. He falls down. You call 911 and ask for police and EMS.

Your attacker is arrested, taken to the hospital to treat his wounded leg, and then taken to jail. He is charged with malicious assault, assault and battery, auto theft, and driving on a revoked license.

Third story- Are you armed at home in the evening?

Your girlfriend comes over and she is worried. Her ex-boyfriend is contacting her even though she took out a restraining order. She is afraid she is being followed. It is about 9 at night when a stranger enters your home and attacks you. You own a gun. You’re carrying concealed. You present your firearm and shoot at your attacker. He runs away, but you’re not sure if you hit him or not. You stay at the scene and both of you and your girlfriend call the police.

That was your girlfriend’s ex who attacked you. He has a history of domestic violence. He broke the restraining order by calling her, and by following her here.

Police take your statements. They search the area but don’t find your attacker. The next morning, someone reports a body laying face down in the snow a few blocks away.

Fourth story- Are you armed at home?

You hear a crashing sound and screams. You come out of your bedroom and see two strangers attacking your roommate. You have your New York firearms license. You’re armed. You present your firearm and shoot the attacker closest to you. Both men turn and run. You stop shooting.

You check on your roommate. Both of you call 911 at a few minutes after nine in the morning.

The police arrive and you give them a brief statement. You fired more than once, but you don’t know if you hit your attacker. Police find your attackers when they arrive at the local hospital. Your attackers are arrested and held in jail for felony burglary.

Text of the discussion and links to the original stories are on the Self Defense Gun Stories podcast webpage.

CMP Talladega Spring Classic Beats Weather, Kicks Off New Pistol Events http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/sQjUpNXWk5Y/ By Ashley Brugnone, CMP Staff Writer

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) hosted the 2021 Talladega Spring Classic. IMG CMP

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- Met with a week of fluctuating climate conditions, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) hosted the 2021 Talladega Spring Classic, March 16-21, at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama. Over 400 rifle and pistol entries flowed throughout the 500-acres of the facility, logging a successful turnout to launch the CMP’s spring schedule.

The shifting outdoor atmosphere kept guests on their toes, with temperatures dropping to the point of chilling frost on some mornings then warming into the 60’s later on. Luckily, the unpredictable elements didn’t keep visitors from getting back to CMP’s full lineup of matches – a mix of longtime favorites along with fresh events to challenge both experienced and beginning marksmen.

“All in all, it was a very good event,” said Steve Cooper, CMP’s education and training manager. “The matches ran really well. The CMP Talladega staff did a great job of keeping things maintained all week.”

New competitive matches held at the Talladega Spring Classic included the Pistol 2700, Mid-Range 3×600 Rifle and Benchrest Garand matches. Another exciting first-time addition for the CMP, never before fired at any other event, was the Pistol Marksmanship 101 class. Designed after the National Matches Pistol Small Arms Firing School at Camp Perry, the informative clinic was led by Cooper and CMP pistol coordinator, Jim Henderson. The two also conducted the Range Officer Level II class for rifle and pistol.

“Hendo (Henderson) is a natural instructor,” Cooper said. “It was a real treat for the class to have him share his experiences and knowledge of the sport. He will continue on with us and will instruct with us again at the Eastern Games (April 23-May 2 in North Carolina).”

The Pistol 101 course was vulnerable to the looming severe thunderstorms moving into the area, but with veteran trainers guiding the curriculum, a hustled classroom portion allowed participants to fully absorb the valuable fundamentals while still taking advantage of the accompanying range segment outdoors.

The popular Rifle Marksmanship 101 course also witnessed a rain-filled day, but the protective covering of the impressive 600-yard electronic John C. Garand Range kept participants dry and able to complete the class, without issue. The rifle course was led by the talented collective of CMP’s Highpower Team members Sara Rozanski, Danny Arnold, Bob Gill, Nick Till, and Ryan Vander Poppen.

Other established CMP events, like the Rimfire Sporter Rifle, .22 Rimfire Pistol, Service Pistol, and GSMM (Garand/Springfield/Vintage and Modern Military) Rifle matches brought notable scores from athletes making their marks on the range.

Encouraging New Data, but Staying Vigilant to Prevent Tragedy of Suicide http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/PdFzKX7ztSI/ By Joe Bartozzi

NSSF, the firearm industry trade association, has partnered with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) since 2016. IMG NSSF

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- There is light at the end of the tunnel and some new data is worthy of solemn celebration. The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) released new figures showing the number of Americans who died by suicide in 2020 remained lower than in each of the previous four years.

That’s good news. After a year of coronavirus despair, government lockdowns causing increased economic anxiety and uncertainty, and increases in community violence, good signs are emerging as Americans have sensed a slow but steady return to normalcy.

The firearm industry understands there is hard work still to be done to further reduce the instances of these tragedies. But NSSF has gone “all in” before and we’re not stopping any time soon.

Positive Trends: The Findings

The JAMA report shows last year under 45,000 Americans died by suicide. The figure represents a low mark over the previous four years. 2019’s number was 47,511; 2018’s was 48,344; the 2017 figure was 47,173, and 2016 was just above 2020’s total at 44,965.

You would be surprised to learn of the lower numbers if the media were to be believed. You couldn’t be blamed for it either. Throughout 2020, news outlets projected doom-and-gloom and the worst possible outcomes. ABC News posited, “COVID-19’s impact could include 20 more firearm suicides per day;” the New York Times asked, “Will the pandemic result in more suicides?;” and NPR suggested, “Experts fear COVID, rising gun sales, could bring increased teen suicides.”

Reason.com, reporting on the JAMA study, put the false assumptions down. “There was a lot of speculation last year that business shutdowns and stay-at-home orders associated with COVID-19 would cause suicide rates to spike. Now, the new evidence from the JAMA suggests this prediction may have been wrong.”

Firearm Industry is Partners in Prevention

As nearly two-thirds of all firearm-related deaths in America are the result of suicide, NSSF has remained committed to focusing on reducing this preventable tragedy. These efforts continue. The industry is a proud partner with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), as well as the Department of Veterans Affairs, to advocate for reducing suicide. Our efforts include providing resources to help people better understand the warning signs of suicide. We are encouraging everyone, including those with military loved ones and veterans to have a brave conversation,” and we provide, free of charge, educational materials and safe storage kits to firearm retailers, shooting range operators, and gun owners. We continually urge them to understand possible warning signs and risk factors for suicide, and what preventative steps may be taken.

We have learned, and we now stress that it is okay to have a brave conversation and ask friends and family directly about suicide. The experts agree that bringing up the conversation doesn’t spark the idea but relieves those struggling with the notion.  Suicide is preventable, and securing firearms is one of the most important steps gun owners can take to protect those at risk of suicide.

Real Solutions. Safer Communities

These all are industry-led efforts, guided by data, to help reduce the number of unintended firearm fatalities in the U.S. NSSF is gratified initiatives like those within our Real Solutions. The campaign has had positive and lasting impacts. These firearm safety initiatives led to the lowest number of unintentional firearm fatalities in more than 100 years since record-keeping began in 1903.

The 2020 JAMA figures are a positive sign and every aspect that led to the low figures should be praised. The firearm trade association will continue our decades-long effort to bring the tragedy of suicide even lower still.

Texas: Permitless Carry Scheduled for House Consideration on Thursday! http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/Ok4_8eIDFAQ/ IMG NRA-ILA

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- House Bill 1927by Rep. Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler), an NRA-backed permitless carry proposal that would allow law-abiding citizens to carry a handgun without a state-issued License To Carry (LTC), will be debated by the full Texas House on Thursday!  This is the first time a permitless carry bill has made it to the House floor for consideration.  It’s time for Texas to join the 20 other states that have legalized this personal protection option!

Please contact your State Representatives and urge them to VOTE YES on HB 1927, and to follow the author on votes on amendments.  The existing LTC law would not be repealed under this measure.  Criminals who are prohibited from possessing firearms (i.e., felons, fugitives from justice, domestic abusers) and individuals committed by the courts for mental illness, would still be barred from carrying guns.  This legislation would not prevent the enforcement of any laws broken by criminals who misuse firearms.

On Thursday, House Bill 1500, by Rep. Cole Hefner (R-Mount Pleasant), will also be debated on the House floor.  Please contact your State Representatives and urge them to support HB 1500.  This bill establishes that firearm and ammunition manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, suppliers, and retailers are essential businesses that shall not be prohibited by state or local officials from operating during a declared disaster or emergency.  This bill ensures that law-abiding Texans can exercise their constitutional right to purchase and own firearms during future disasters or emergencies, regardless of any statewide or local officeholder’s personal politics.

Texas: GOA Responds to Sellout License to Carry Instructors http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/cSaUGtuHEBs/ Texas: GOA Responds to Sellout License to Carry Instructors

Springfield, VA – -(AmmoLand.com)- Rachel Malone, Texas Director of Gun Owners of America, responded to License to Carry (LTC) instructors who are opposing efforts to restore the right of self-defense in Texas, stating:

“Earlier today, a small contingent of License to Carry instructors sided with Bloomberg-funded organizations and opposed pending legislation to restore Texans’ right to carry a handgun without having to obtain a permit. We find it unconscionable that anyone in the firearms community would betray our liberties based on an obvious financial interest.

“As Chair James White and Representative Matt Schaefer stated earlier today, ‘Experience shows that residents will continue to voluntarily seek out training and licenses in permitless carry states, recognizing the benefits of instruction as well as acquiring and maintaining a license, for reciprocity with other states while traveling and other purposes.’

“We agree with Wallace Dunn, President of the Texas Concealed Handgun Association, who stated: ‘Training should not be a condition to exercising a constitutional right.’

“And we applaud instructors such as Jerah Hutchins, firearms instructor, GOA member, and Director of Training at Tier One security company, who stated: ‘Supporting Constitutional Carry as an LTC instructor is the difference between capitalism and greed. As instructors, our job is to teach and influence Texans to be responsible gun owners. This can be accomplished without an infringing licensure.’

“While Gun Owners of America encourages gun owners to obtain quality training, we would hate for any Texas gun owners to give their hard-earned money to the tiny fraction of instructors who actively fight against their core values. We urge our members to seek training from those who advocate in favor of our liberties and support Constitutional Carry.”

The following GOA spokespeople are available for interviews:

U.S.A.-(AmmoLand.com)- SIG SAUER, Inc. congratulates Team SIG Captain and professional shooter Max Michel for his first-place finish in the Carry Optics Division at the Inaugural 2021 Team Motley Dragon’s Cup.

“The growth in the Carry Optics Division of professional shooting sports has been tremendous, and as the division becomes more popular, Max continues to elevate his level of competition to stay on top,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales. “Max’s carry optics experience and success led to the development and recent release of the SIG Custom Works P320MAX pistol, and it was great to see him come away with a big win from his first competition using his P320MAX.”

To take his Carry Optics titles at the Inaugural 2021 Team Motley Dragon’s Cup, Max competed against 81 competitors through twelve stages where he won eight of the twelve. For competition, Max used his P320MAX pistol featuring the ROMEO3MAX open reflex red dot sight and SIG 147-grain Match Elite 9mm Competition Ammunition.

“The 2021 Dragon’s Cup was a huge success and exceeded all expectations for an inaugural event. This was the first-ever USPSA event in West Texas and attracted the top professional shooters,” added Michel. “The match was extremely challenging and my new P320MAX gave me the edge I needed to navigate these complicated stages and quickly engage targets with my ROMEO3MAX sight. I am proud to be a part of the events success and come away with a Carry Optics win for Team SIG”

The SIG Custom Works P320MAX, used by Michel in the competition, was designed and optimized for Carry Optics Competition. The pistol is built around the TXG tungsten infused heavy XFULL grip module with a flat skeletonized trigger, a custom slide with wrap-around serrations for ideal side and top manipulation, and is fit with a 5” match grade bull barrel, one-piece stainless steel guide rod, and a 1911-style recoil spring, allowing for an easily customized shooting experience and comes equipped with a factory-installed ROMEO3MAX open reflex sight.

The 2021 Team Motley Dragon’s Cup was held at Motley Services in Odessa, Texas, April 9 – 11, 2021.

The SIG SAUER ROMEO3MAX open reflex red dot sight and SIG SAUER 147 grain Match Elite 9mm competition ammunition can be purchased online at sigsauer.com/store or retailers everywhere.

SAF Hires Lee Williams, The ‘Gun Writer,’ To Lead Investigative Reporting Project http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/WTGjp-vllhg/ SAF Hires Lee Williams, The ‘Gun Writer,’ To Lead Investigative Reporting Project

BELLEVUE, WA – -(AmmoLand.com)- The Second Amendment Foundation today announced that award-winning investigative reporter [Ammoland News Author] and editor Lee Williams has been chosen to serve as chief editor of SAF’s Investigative Journalism Project.

“Lee has unique skills as an editor, investigative reporter and as a guardian of the Second Amendment,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “This is exactly the combination we were looking for to launch this project, which is more vital now than ever before.”

The mission of the Investigative Journalism Project is to showcase under-reported stories and debunk misinformation from opponents of the right to keep and bear arms in daily reporting, investigations, analysis, and commentary on the policy, politics, culture, and business of guns in America.

Williams, who is also known as the Gun Writer, has been writing about the Second Amendment, firearms, the firearms industry, and the gun culture for more than 10 years.

Until recently, he was also an editor for a daily newspaper in Florida. Before becoming an editor, Williams was an investigative reporter at newspapers in three states and a U.S. Territory. Before becoming a journalist, he served as a police officer and in the Army.

He has earned more than a dozen national journalism awards as a reporter, and three medals of valor as a cop.

“I am humbled and thrilled to be joining the Second Amendment Foundation, which plays such a crucial role in safeguarding our gun rights,” Williams said. “I look forward to helping the SAF continue its vital mission.”

The SAF envisions its Investigative Reporting Project will create a network of national correspondents, who will help safeguard Second Amendment rights.

Second Amendment Foundation

The Second Amendment Foundation (www.saf.org) is the nation’s oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 700,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control.

‘Biden Determined to Trample on 2A’ Says Chair of Anti-Biden Super PAC http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/7C-Sq5b0pws/ Joe Biden wants to trample the Second Amendment, according to the chairman of a group determined to defeat him in 2024., iStock-1267413669

U.S.A.-(AmmoLand.com)- Writing at Fox News Sunday, Ted Harvey, a former Colorado legislator now chairing the Committee to Defeat the President, described as an “anti-Biden super PAC,” asserted Joe Biden is “determined to trample on the Second Amendment” while at the same time “undermining the right to bear arms in unilateral fashion.”

“When it comes to gun control,” Harvey alleges, “the Biden administration believes in government by fiat, unencumbered by the legal constraints placed on the presidency. He says so himself: ‘I’m going to use all the resources at my disposal to keep people safe’ – even if it means treading on the Constitution.”

While it might be easy to dismiss Harvey’s Op-Ed as partisan claptrap, it is far more challenging when one considers the Biden gun control plan covered several times at AmmoLand News. Biden is on record

Harvey’s column quickly cuts to the chase when he observes, “Of course, Democrats fail to acknowledge that Colorado – my home state and the site of America’s most recent mass shooting – already has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. The state government – in which I served for more than a decade – already mandates universal background checks and bans high-capacity magazines. Colorado is even a “red flag” state, allowing law enforcement officials to temporarily seize weapons from those deemed an extreme risk.

“As is often the case, the Democratic Party’s laundry list of gun control demands would have done nothing to stop the Colorado shooting.”

Harvey, in the vernacular of target shooters, has put it in the X-ring.

The gun control movement, which has become the gun prohibition movement since anti-gunners started pushing for a ban on the manufacture and sale of so-called “semiautomatic assault weapons,” has their man in Joe Biden. In an email blast following Biden’s announcement of his “initial” gun control program, Everytown for Gun Safety—the billionaire-backed lobbying group largely bankrolled by Michael Bloomberg—declared, “This morning, we were at the White House to witness a historic moment for our movement: President Joe Biden is taking executive action to end our country’s gun violence crisis. President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris ran on the strongest gun safety platform ever, and today, they took an important step in putting that platform into action to help save lives.” It was signed by Everytown President John Feinblatt and Angela Ferrell-Zabala, head of the group’s Movement Building effort.

They were apparently present at the White House, but as recently stated by Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, “Nobody from the Biden administration has reached out to us or any other rights organization to my knowledge, which certainly clarifies Biden’s approach to firearms regulation. He came into office talking about unity, but he just declared war on tens of millions of law-abiding gun owners who have committed no crimes.”

Another prominent gun prohibition group is Giffords, named for former Congresswoman Gabrielle “Gabby” Giffords, who survived an attempted assassination attempt in Tucson, Arizona ten years ago in which six other people were killed. Giffords just announced the hiring of another former member of Congress, one-term Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, the first South America-born member of Congress.

When NBC News reported about Mucarsel-Powell’s new job as senior advisor to Giffords, it noted right up front “Seeing her father’s body with gunshot wounds was one of the most traumatic moments” for her. He was murdered in 1996, outside his residence.

A little research reveals that her father was not murdered in the United States, but in Ecuador, where he was, according to the NBC story, “an entrepreneur of Lebanese descent who lived in the city of Guayaquil.”

In 2018, according to MacroTrends, Ecuador had a murder rate of 5.80 per 100,000 people. That same year, according to Wikipedia, the U.S. murder rate was 5.0 per 100,000.

No U.S. gun control law could have prevented the Ecuador murder. Anti-gunners have the same problem in the U.S. As Harvey explained over the weekend, the “laundry list” of proposed gun control restrictions would have made no difference in the Boulder mass shooting, same as they haven’t prevented any other mass shooting in recent history.

Just look at Seattle, Washington, which instituted a gun and ammunition tax in mid-2015 to fund “violence reduction” efforts. Homicides have steadily climbed in the city, and over the weekend there was a drive-by shooting that wounded four people, including a toddler. A nearly identical tax was adopted in Cook County, Illinois but the body count keeps climbing in Chicago.

Adding insult to injury, Biden has nominated a man the National Review headlined as an “anti-gun fanatic” to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the government’s gun law enforcement agency.

The Washington Free Beacon quoted SAF’s Gottlieb asserting Biden’s nomination of Chipman “is an attempt to politicize the ATF.

“The bottom line is we will have the ATF working against gun owners rather than being a neutral government agency to enforce laws,” Gottlieb said. “We’re probably going to have what I would consider to be a very rogue ATF. … Everybody in the whole firearms community and Second Amendment community is going to pull out all the stops to fight the confirmation.”

So far, every signal from the Biden administration—which is now being called the “Biden-Harris” administration by many in the media, as Vice President Kamala Harris never seems to be more than a few steps away from the president during public appearances—has been increasingly hostile to gun owners and the Second Amendment. Harvey says as much in his Fox News Op-Ed, which was amplified by Amy Swearer, a legal fellow at the Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at the Heritage Foundation.

Writing at the Deseret News, Swearer observed about Biden’s gun control proposals, “We don’t yet have the specific language the DOJ will eventually use in these rules, but two things are immediately clear. One is that these actions are primarily political stunts that can do very little to address gun violence. Second, they serve as notice to responsible gun owners that the White House doesn’t think very highly of their Second Amendment rights.”

A few paragraphs later, Swearer added, “Every American wants safer communities and to ensure that criminals don’t have ready access to firearms. Unfortunately, instead of looking for effective bipartisan solutions, President Biden has decided to play politics in hopes that Americans won’t know any better.”

SPEAKERS

Evan Nappen

Evan Nappen 00:19

I’m Evan Nappen and welcome to Gun Lawyer. So today I was thinking about this, and I have got to make sure that my listeners are protected. Lately I’ve been seeing so many cases of law-abiding gun owners being turned into law-abiding criminals, and I’ve noticed that there’s a belief in a number of gun law myths. I want to talk to you today about the five top myths about guns and gun laws that you need to know. There’s so much absolute garbage out there, particularly on the internet. You can see all kinds of things, and it’s just not true. There are people that believe it, and end up getting themselves in trouble. When they are put in that situation of having to deal with a stop or with police, they became vulnerable when they thought they were doing the right thing. Those are the most frustrating things, not just for me to defend, but it’s just sad, because the folks that do this are kicking themselves in the butt for doing it. They are beating themselves up because they can’t believe what they thought was wrong and because they’ve been doing it the whole time.

Evan Nappen 01:56

Let me give you a good example of such a thing. You may have heard that when you transport a firearm, you put your firearm in the trunk and your ammunition in the glove box. They separate it. I had a case just this week, where that’s exactly what my client did. He was coming from a southern state, and he said that’s what his father always told him. Keep the ammunition separate. Well, here’s my advice. Don’t keep your ammunition in your glove box despite what you may have heard. If you keep it in the glove box, what happens? Well, you get pulled over for a minor traffic violation like what happened to my client. What’s the first thing that the police say? “Your license, registration, and insurance.” And what do you do? You open the glove box to get out your paperwork. As soon as you do that, the officer sees ammunition or a magazine. Or a magazine with ammunition. I’m talking about a gun magazine, not Life magazine. A gun mag, a firearm component, a holster. Anything like that in your glove box, they now are going to have arguably probable cause to search your vehicle for other weapons. This is common, particularly in New Jersey.

Evan Nappen 03:35

It now can escalate the whole thing, and before you know it, in New Jersey, you’ll be facing charges for your cased, unloaded handgun that you had in the trunk. You are looking at a Second Degree charge, up to 10 years and State Prison, a minimum mandatory three and a half years, no chance of parole, because you left your magazine or your ammunition or your holster in the glove box. Whereas, if you had simply kept the gun unloaded and not had the ammunition in the glove box, guess what? You most likely wouldn’t have any of this trouble. It’s something that simple. That simple yet it can ruin your life. It can throw you into the judicial system. Where, if it’s New Jersey, your entire life can be ruined. Your career, your family, your hopes and dreams, no joke ruined, imprisoned. Three and a half years, no chance of parole. The Judge has no discretion in Jersey on that. All that, you’re going to face and have to fight. Think of the anxiety, the stress, the cost, all because you put those things in the glove box. You thought it was the right thing to do because you followed the myth. Whereas, if you hadn’t done that, most likely you wouldn’t even have a problem.

That’s how outrageous this is. It is a myth, and these myths hurt good people.

Evan Nappen 05:18

Now look, you might live in a jurisdiction where they have some law that says to put it in the glove box, but I’ve never heard of that. Federal law does not say that, even to transport under Title 18 926a. The ammunition should not be in the same lockbox as your gun. As long as it’s in a separate container and your gun is unloaded, you’re fine under Federal law. It does not ever say in the glove box. Now it’s true, if you had it in the glove box and it was locked, we would argue two separate containers but you don’t want to do that. Put it in its own little locking box and your gun in a locking case. Put it in the trunk or the back of your vehicle, cover it up, and make sure it’s locked. Now your gun is unloaded. The ammunition is separate. Part of being a gun owner today because of the enhanced scrutiny, media bias, narrative, agenda, hatred toward us, and fear mongering by the media, we have to be discreet with our guns. We have to be smart about our guns. You don’t want to become the next law-abiding criminal. So, myth number one is putting those things in the glove box.

Evan Nappen 06:39

I have heard a variation of this myth. I had a client who was driving around Jersey, and he had his Buck knife on top of the dash. Full size Buck knife. I asked him, why were you driving around with it up there? Well, he was told that as long as you have it in the open exposed on your car, you’re okay. And I’m like, that’s just an invite to be arrested. They look and see my big knife. Now, please arrest me. It’s a myth. Just the opposite. Granted, no one should be arrested for these things. They are victimless crimes, but it doesn’t matter. It’s not how it runs. It’s not how it operates. You’ll get dragged into the system on this. You do not want to have that happen.

Evan Nappen 07:24

Speaking of knives, here’s another myth, and it is one of my favorite myths. How many of you heard someone ask, ” hey, what’s the blade limit size on a knife? What’s the blade limit size? And let me tell you right now, the blade limit size of a knife is not the width of a fat cops palm. Okay? Not the width. No. How many times have you seen them say, “Let me put it against my palm and see. There is no palm knife law. No such thing. It’s a myth. This palm stuff. How many times have you seen that? Oh, look, it’s bigger than my palm. Well, that’s nice. Either you’ve got a small palm, or I’ve got a big knife. It doesn’t mean crap under the law. Nothing. So, please, this myth of blade length is wrong. Some jurisdictions do have blade length laws. Some jurisdictions do. I get that. But if they do, it is a measurement in inches. A measurement in a specific quantity that we recognize and can establish. That’s the amazing part about it.

Evan Nappen 08:52

Maybe your jurisdiction has a three and a half-inch blade length. Maybe it does, and you need to know that if you are in that jurisdiction. But it is not this weird palm thing that you see or hear all the time. Not at all. Interestingly, in New Jersey, as bad as they are, they do not have a blade length limit. It’s not about blade length at all. Length doesn’t matter in Jersey. No, it doesn’t because it’s not about that with knives. Know the jurisdiction that you’re in and what matters. But know for a fact that these other stories and weird things like palming your blade and all these are just nonsense. No basis whatsoever for that. You want to know the facts because if you have the screwed up information, you can end up in trouble. Maybe your jurisdiction does have a blade length, and maybe your palm is bigger than the blade length list. If you are doing this palm thing, all you are doing cities is setting yourself up for a problem. So, don’t do that. Be smart, be smart.

Evan Nappen 10:08

Take another myth, and it’s a myth that I understand. It is common in a lot of people believe it, but it’s not true. I’m sure most of you probably recognize this, but you would be surprised how many people don’t. I get case after case of people who didn’t know this. There is no national reciprocity for a carry license. I think there should be. Of course, you know, driver’s licenses are recognized in every state. It is not an illogical step to think that my gun license is recognized in all the states. It is a state that made it legal for me. In fact, they have given me this license after they ran a criminal background check and done things that never happen to get a driver’s license. You were not given a criminal background check and fingerprinted to get your driver’s license. But you were for your carry license if you live in a jurisdiction that issues carry licenses. So, it’s not a far leap to think that well, why wouldn’t all the states recognize my carry license? But they don’t. They don’t.

Evan Nappen 11:17

For example, New Jersey recognizes no other state’s license whatsoever. If you come to Jersey and you are transporting your handgun, thinking that you’re covered by a carry license from another state, you are not. Many people have suffered terrible consequences because they believed in the myth of reciprocity. It does not exist. That was Shaneen Allen’s mistake. She didn’t understand why her Pennsylvania license was not recognized. I’ve had case after case where individuals who come from another jurisdiction, believe that Jersey would be fair and reasonable and would, of course, respect a license from another state. But they don’t, and the charges are incredibly serious. Again, Second Degree, up to 10 years in State Prison, minimum mandatory three and a half years, no chance of parole. If you get convicted of that handgun, even though you have a carry license from another state, the judge has no discretion. Period. You are getting three and a half years as a minimum in State Prison. Think about how draconian and insane New Jersey’s law is, and how many folks unwittingly fall for this trap. In New Jersey, it is really bad news. So, you do not want to fall for the myth of reciprocity.

Evan Nappen 12:52

I will tell you another myth. This is one that you’ll hear at times when you talk with folks about self-defense. Some guy will say, “Oh, well, if I shoot some guy outside my house, I’m dragging them back in.” Like what is he now a houseguest? Or, “if I shoot some guy, I’m gonna plant a kitchen knife in his hand or a weapon. I got a throw away, and I’m gonna put it right in his hand.” Listen, it is a myth. Never, never mess with the scene. Don’t do it. It’s that simple. Because it will get discovered. It will get figured out. They are going to see the drag. They are going to see the blood. They are going to find prints, and they are going to do DNA. I mean, come on. When they determine that you screwed around with that, you have lost all credibility. You have really screwed yourself. Never do that.

Evan Nappen 13:52

Instead, have good counsel. We will deal with what the truth is, how you defended yourself properly under the law, and why you were threatened with serious bodily injury or death. And were in fear of those things. Establishing it and defending on the truth. Not trying to change the scene. Because then you won’t be able to effectively defend yourself. You will be cut down at the knees when the prosecutor is nailing you on messing with the evidence and the scene in front of the jury. Not good. Plus, you could even be charged with doing such things. So, no, don’t do that. It doesn’t matter. If they fall outside, they fall outside the house. If they had a weapon or not but if you thought they did, we are going to make that clear. You do not plant one.

Evan Nappen 14:52

These kind of myths can cost you dearly. So, don’t believe any of that stuff you see and hear. Stick to what I’m telling you here. I don’t want you making these mistakes. When we come back, I’m going to tell you about what happens when you have that police encounter and one of the biggest myths about how to deal with that encounter, should you need to.

As many of you know, my favorite holster is Mitch Rosen’s Extraordinary Gun Leather. I’m just going to tell you, this is not a paid advertisement. This is because I love what Mitch Rosen does. He is a friend of mine, and I am proud to be his friend. I’ll tell you right now his stuff is just amazing. I’m wearing one now, and you need to try it and see it. His rig and his leather just holds your gun perfectly. There’s no keeper strap unless you want to get one, but you don’t need it. It just holds it. Yet you can draw your gun beautifully, and you can put it back easily. It stays open because each holster is molded to each specific firearm. It literally fits like a glove. Then you get the belt that’s made to carry the holster and that forms the full rig. It gives you the support, and you won’t want anything else. I am telling you. Check out Mitch Rosen’s line of gun leather and holsters. And you’ll say man, I’m sure glad you told me about it. You’ll see why I love them so much.

Evan Nappen 18:12

I want to tell you. These times are very challenging, and I’m sure you are seeing the issues that we have to face. A lot of things are going against us, and there is a lot of movement against our rights, a lot of action. I’ll even use the word “conspiracy”. I am not talking black helicopters. But plainly, the media is not our friend, and they are trying to suppress us. So look, help keep a fellow gunner from becoming a law-abiding criminal. Tell them to listen to Gun Lawyer, visit my website at Gun.Lawyer. We have .com but I’ve got lawyer and it’s Gun.Lawyer. What I would really love for you to do is take a look at our Inner Circle. It’s right on the website. Sign up for the Inner Circle. That is my way of communicating with you, and you are going to get the inside for me. I will give tips and tricks and insight and fun. Sign up. It’s free. That way I still have the ability to communicate with you as it gets tougher and tougher to do so.

Evan Nappen 19:15

This microphone and this podcast are important. It’s a way for us to communicate with one another to protect our Second Amendment rights and fellow gun owners. It helps me communicate with you to touch base so you know what’s going on. Big tech doesn’t care about our rights. They don’t like us and want to shut us down. The Inner Circle is how we can stay in contact despite their efforts. These big issues, executive orders and this clarion call to take away our rights are real. It’s just amazing how these mass shootings happen right now when there is a big push for gun laws. You know, it’s like you could set your watch by it. It is so predictable. But there it is. So, we really have to deal with this. Please subscribe to the podcast. Join my Inner Circle, and get the word out. I am depending on you.

Evan Nappen 20:21

Now, we are talking here about what kinds of things you need to know to protect yourself. As a criminal defense attorney for over 30 years, defending folks that I   lovingly call law-abiding criminals, because they are law-abiding citizens who have been turned into criminals by these ridiculous gun laws, I have seen our rights play out and the reality of these rights. So, what I’m going to tell you is a myth that I see frequently. I want to tell you what you need to know so you don’t ever have this problem.

Evan Nappen 21:01

Some folks actually believe that if you have a problem and the police want to talk to you about it, that you can lie your way out of the situation. Let me just say, that’s a heavy duty risk, and frankly, it’s a myth. Generally speaking, you’re not going to succeed. In fact, they would love for you to try because lying to the police is a crime. So, you cannot lie to the police. If you do, you can be prosecuted simply for lying to the police, even if the underlying reason they were investigating you proves to be nothing. Zero, doesn’t matter. Your lying to the police is now a separate criminal act. You cannot lie to the police, but, and this is not a myth, the police are allowed to lie to you. You may say, hey, that’s not fair. Well, doesn’t matter, fair or not. It is how it works. The police have a license to lie. They can lie about things in their investigation to try to glean information out of you. I have seen this happen, and the surest way to not have a problem is by not lying. Because you cannot lie to the police does not mean that there’s nothing you can do. Oh, there is something very, very important that you can do. What you can do is keep your mouth shut. That’s right. You have a Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and you have a right to counsel. So, you have a right to say nothing. So many people seem to have a hard time doing that. But that’s what you need to do.

Evan Nappen 23:13

You need to say, “I’ve nothing to say and I want to talk to my lawyer first.” Always invoke that you want to talk to your lawyer. By asking to speak with your lawyer and not saying anything. Guess what? You are not going to fall for the myth of lying to the police. You are not going to incriminate yourself over some offense that you don’t even know you’re incriminating yourself over because you didn’t even know it was an offense. I get those cases, too. I cannot tell you how many times people say, “I didn’t know that was illegal. I thought I was grandfathered. I thought it was okay. I thought I was doing the right thing.” I understand all those things. I do. I get it. But talking is what becomes the biggest problem in your case. Police have a right to lie to you, but you do not have a right to lie to them.

Evan Nappen 24:13

You need to keep your mouth shut and not inadvertently say anything that can be twisted against you. Because you are innocent, and I have seen that it’s the innocent person, which makes it incredibly tragic, because they said things that are now being used against them, even though it really wasn’t them. I have had those cases. If they just kept their mouth shut. So many times through so many cases that I’ve had over 30 years of criminal defense. I look back, and I say where was the person’s mistake? They couldn’t shut their mouth and just ask for their attorney.

Evan Nappen 25:00

Many times in these criminal cases, your future hinges on one choice. Whether you’re choosing to put that ammunition in your glove box. Whether you have chosen to speak to the police. Whether you have chosen to think that a knife shorter than your palm is okay, and you’ve never even looked at the actual laws in your jurisdiction. When you choose to bring your gun and carry it into New Jersey, assuming that your license is going to be respected and honored. Those choices and that myth believed, if you will, ends up making people miserable, and put into a world of problems that they never thought they would end up in.

Evan Nappen 26:00

Remember, you cannot and should never lie to the police. You should not talk to the police either. Because you always have that right to say, hey, I want to talk to my lawyer first. That’s what smart people do. Because by talking to your lawyer, your lawyer cannot incriminate you. Your lawyer can speak for you and find out what’s going on. What you say to your lawyer is confidential, attorney-client protected speech between you and your attorney. This is the smart thing that folks do. You need to be smart and not fall into these traps.

Evan Nappen 26:40

The belief about law enforcement’s job and what their responsibility is, is distorted by way of television. So many times I’m watching a TV show, you know that my family was watching, and they’re investigating this suspect. He is there talking across the metal table, yackety Yak, and I am like shut up. Get a lawyer. Shut up. Oh, my God. It’s frustrating because if you’re ever read your rights, that’s not a myth. If you are read your rights, fireworks should be going off and the flag should be flying. The alarm bells should be ringing. If you are ever read your rights, and that you have the right to remain silent. Remain freakin silent. Okay, you just got hit with a train by these rights in your face, and you’re like, Hey, can I buy a ticket on that train? No. No, you were read your rights. That’s it.

Evan Nappen 27:56

If you are ever read your rights, there’s no more excuse. It just boggles me. The police read you your rights, and then the person says, “Oh, fine. Now I’ll talk to you, and I don’t need a lawyer.” Why do you think they read you your rights? Because you do need a lawyer, and you do need to shut up. It could not be more blatant. But you know what? Television conditions you. “Oh, you don’t have to worry about those little rights things. Everybody just talks. If you don’t talk, you must have something to hide. You must. No, that is not how it works. Not how it works at all. Not at all. If you are ever read your rights, that is absolutely the last stop sign before the cliff. Okay, that’s it. If you go through that stop sign, you are going down, down, down into that gully, and you are going to crash and burn. That is your final warning right there. The guardrail at the end of the road, and you just went right through it. No problem. Oh, la dee, da dee da. No. I cannot emphasize it enough. The bottom line myth is that you can ignore when your rights are read to you. Do that and you will pay the price. Absolutely.

Evan Nappen 29:32

Never waive your rights. Demand your attorney. Then and only then, if your attorney advises you after thorough consideration and that defense counsel that knows criminal law and your situation tells you that you can waive your rights and do this or that, fine. But short of that. No way. You have nothing to say, and I want my lawyer.

Evan Nappen 29:59

This is Evan Nappen reminding you that gun laws do not protect honest citizens from criminals. They protect criminals from honest citizens.

Blackhawk’s “Your Right 2 Protect” Initiative Continues to Drive Success http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/fm66WGzLWCI/ IMG BlackHawk!

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- Blackhawk, a leader in law enforcement and military equipment for over 20 years, continues to have success educating new and experienced gun owners alike through its Your Right 2 Protect (YR2P) initiative. The YR2P program was created by Blackhawk to support new and existing firearms owners with the goal of helping people feel more confident, prepared, and protected when carrying a firearm.

For more than two decades, Blackhawk has been providing gun owners with holsters trusted by military and law enforcement across the globe. To better serve the millions of new gun owners, Blackhawk’s YR2P initiative goes above and beyond simple holster/firearm compatibility. Through the multi-faceted campaign, Blackhawk helps educate consumers on proper firearms handling and techniques through online resources, tools, and videos. Among these tools is a purpose-built  Holster Selector Tool  on Blackhawk.com that helps gun owners choose the right holster for their preferred style of carrying, while additional resources provide shooters with continued concealed carry education.

“Over the last several months, we’ve seen a surge in individuals exercising their right to firearm ownership, particularly those new to shooting,” said Evan McNamara, Director of Product Development for Blackhawk. “That’s why we developed the YR2P initiative. We wanted it to serve as a way to educate and guide both new and experienced gun owners. With resources covering everything from how to select a holster to the different options for carrying, we want to continue to build confidence among gun owners all while welcoming them to the 2A community.”

Additional YR2P resources available to gun owners include the Blackhawk Carry Positions Guide. This downloadable PDF helps to educate consumers on carrying position terminology and the differences in holster designs and styles. Blackhawk also offers a full lineup of videos with carrying tips for all seasons and types of clothing (casual, athletic, business, etc.), product overviews, “how-to” instruction, testimonials, and ambassador spotlights.

Armed with knowledge from the YR2P initiative, both novice and seasoned firearms owners feel safer and more effective when carrying. To learn more about Blackhawk’s Your Right 2 Protect initiative, visit  Blackhawk.com/Your-Right-2-Protect .

Word of the week: Ghost gun http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/typepad/NancyFriedman/away_with_words/~3/VTME-Zak6aM/word-of-the-week-ghost-gun.html On April 8, President Biden announced a series of measures he planned to take, independent of Congress, to limit gun violence in the US. Among those measures is a directive empowering the Justice Department to stop the spread of “ghost guns”—homemade firearms, assembled from kits, that lack serial numbers and are thus untraceable. “I want to see these kits treated as firearms under the Gun Control Act,” the president said.

As reporter Annie Karni wrote in a New York Times explainer: “There is no need to pass a background check to obtain the components of a ghost gun. They are sold online as D.I.Y. kits, and typically shipped as ‘80 percent receivers.’ That means the gun is 80 percent complete, and buyers have to assemble the final 20 percent themselves.”

Ghost-Guns-1-Pager-Web-graphics-032020A-03-2-2048x1188

Ghost guns vs. traceable guns: Illustration via Everytown for Gun Safety, an American nonprofit organization, created in 2013, that advocates for gun control and against gun violence. Everytown is financed largely by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Ghost gun is a vivid way to describe what might otherwise be called a “kit gun” or a “DIY gun.” Unlike the latter terms, which suggest amateurish tinkering, ghost gun connotes invisibility, spookiness and, yes, death.

I was unable to find ghost gun in standard dictionaries. Wiktionary has an entry, though, with two definitions:

1. A gun without serial numbers, that cannot be easily tracked, especially a home-made gun built with non-registered, partially finished or 3D printed components.

2. A gun that is not detectable by standard gun detection measures, such as a gun without much metal thus unable to set off metal detectors.

Ghost gun has been in usage since at least 2014, when a company called Ghost Guns, which sells firearms kits for home assembly, registered its domain. The company applied for trademark protection of its name (which appears to have passed into generic use) in February 2021.

ghostguns

In June 2015, senior writer Andy Greenberg wrote a story for Wired headlined “I Made an Untraceable AR-15 ‘Ghost Gun’ in My Office—and It Was Easy.” The quotation marks around ghost gun suggest that it’s a novel coinage, but Greenberg doesn’t take credit for it: “It’s called a ‘ghost gun’—a term popularized by gun control advocates but increasingly adopted by gun lovers too—because it’s an untraceable semiautomatic rifle with no serial number, existing beyond law enforcement’s knowledge and control.”

Ghost has been modifying other words for centuries. (Ghost itself, which originally was a synonym for “spirit” or “soul,” goes back to Old English.) The poet Lord Byron is credited with coining ghost story around 1824. Ghost town, which the OED says is “originally US,” first appeared in the early 20th century. Ghost-writing, surprisingly, is even more recent, dating only to the 1920s. Ghost word was coined in 1886 by the British philologist Walter William Skeat to describe a word that exists only in dictionaries or “an apparent word or false form in a manuscript due to a blunder” and has “no meaning whatever.”

A new ghost emerged during the COVID pandemic. A ghost kitchen, Mike Pope wrote in February 2021, is “a commercial kitchen that’s set up in an industrial space somewhere. There’s no storefront, no dining area, no waitstaff, and of course no customers.” Ghost kitchens are also known as dark kitchens, virtual brands, and delivery-only concepts; in November 2020, Eater called them “the wave of the future” for food service.

And one old ghost—exactly how old I haven’t been able to determine—has taken on new significance during the pandemic. Ghost light is theatrical jargon for the single light left burning on a stage after the audience, cast, and crew have gone home: According to superstition, if the empty theater is left completely dark a ghost will take up residence. (Alternate versions hold that ghost lights appease resident ghosts.) When theaters all of the world were forced to close in March 2020, many of them revived what had become a lapsed tradition, and some even staged special virtual events with “ghost light” themes.

Duplication of Effort https://booksbikesboomsticks.blogspot.com/2021/04/duplication-of-effort.html In that encounter, the student with the sims gun, who we'll call "M", was accosted by the instigator, "J". I can't remember what the details of the shouting match were, probably something vehicle-related. ("Why were you speeding down the street?" or "That's my parking space!" are reliable sources of beef.)
Anyway, M was startled enough by the intensity of J's angry yelling and gesticulating that he drew his sims gun...and immediately realized that he had a gun out in a situation where there was no direct threat or cause for lethal force to be employed.
So now M is stuck trying to do several things: Keep talking, to try and calm J down. Stay out of J's reach. Keep his Beretta in snug against his body where it's unlikely to be grabbed, while simultaneously keeping the muzzle averted, because pointing a gun at someone you ain't got any business pointing a gun at is a crime in pretty much every jurisdiction.
At this point the third student, "S", enters the scene in full "WHAT THE F&%$ ARE YOU DOING? WHAT'S WITH THE GUN? YOU GONNA SHOOT HIM OVER A PARKING SPACE?" yelling mode. That's when M had the presence of mind to fish his (inert) OC spray out and give S a faceful of it and, as J stepped in, he gave J a dousing for good measure.
It was a novel solution and backwards from how these things usually work...
Anyway, I wanted to get a picture of it and so I want combing through the hundreds and hundreds of RAW images I had from my Albuquerque ECQC trip of 2018. I found I had a few dozen images of that particular 2-on-1 evolution, and so I sweated my way through all of them, trying to find the one that would serve as the best illustration.
Having picked one, I cropped it to show just the relevant part, adjusted it to get the horizon level, and fiddled with the exposure and color a tiny bit to make me happy...

Then I went to save the processed pic in my "2018-10-29 ABQ ECQC Processed" folder, only to find this photo already there, from where I'd done the same thing three years ago...

I think it's funny that I selected the same image and cropped it almost identically three years apart, although I seem to favor more saturated colors and punchier contrast these days.

The LE/professional X26 and X2 Tasers as well as the commercially-marketed Taser Pulse are all gun-shaped, which strikes me as a monumentally bad idea. This is aggressively the opposite of poka-yoke.
The original Tasers looked more like Dustbusters than guns...

Now THIS Is Lousy Journalism by the Daily Mail http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/Xb1q3g3rj4Q/ Capture – Biden accept 1

United Kingdom/United States – -(AmmoLand.com)- When it comes to Second Amendment issues, the Daily Mail has a very low bar to clear. Being based in the United Kingdom, it’s understandable if their coverage of the debate over our right to keep and bear arms has a few mistakes. But their coverage of Biden’s latest power grab just shows why loyal AmmoLand readers should point their friends and family to our coverage.

It is understandable that British gun laws, which include injustices anti-Second Amendment extremists dream of inflicting upon us, mean that firearms knowledge is low, but how hard is it to use a search engine to look up pictures and be able to tell the difference between an AK-47-type modern multipurpose semiautomatic rifle and an AR-15? The Daily Mail’s senior U.S. political reporter, it seems, couldn’t be bothered. And you thought Jason Crow’s lying or ignorance was bad. Crow has an excuse – he’s a politician. But journalists purport to lay the facts out to their readers.

While it might sound like a bit of nitpicking, the Daily Mail’s misreporting is actually a lot more serious.

Everyone who has a basic understanding of firearms knows that the real AK-47 is a select-fire rifle. To put it bluntly, if Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene did have one in the picture she posted, due to the provisions of the National Firearms Act, she would have undergone fingerprinting, photographs, and a lengthy wait (almost a year) before she paid for the firearm and got her $200 tax stamp.

We could ignore this media misreporting, if not for the fact that this misreporting, and the failure of so-called “fact-checkers” to call out the lies anti-Second Amendment extremists spew out (like labeling Second Amendment supporters as child killers and domestic terrorists for the “crime” of using our First Amendment rights to defend the Second Amendment) are what enable corporate gun control, financial de-platforming, and abuses of government power, like those carried out by Andrew Cuomo and Letitia James against the National Rifle Association.

The lousy journalism and the lies it enables are a serious threat to us and our ability to persuade fellow Americans. After all, if lies can enable what we’ve seen so far, what happens when the likes of Cuomo and James are done with the NRA? Will they stop there, or will Ammoland, the Second Amendment Foundation, and other entities that tell you the truth about their agenda be next on their list of targets?

This is why Second Amendment supporters should urge their state lawmakers to pass versions of the Freedom Financing Act and the Fair Access to Banking Act that can prevent this. To get those passed at the federal level, Second Amendment supporters should support the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action and Political Victory Fund to ensure that the current anti-Second Amendment regimes in the House, Senate, and White House are defeated at the ballot box as soon as possible.

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)-Firearm sales continue to be hot, even after a year of pandemic closures, civil unrest, elections and now the specter of gun control executive actions and legislation. The firearm industry, and those businesses that provide the means of exercising the Second Amendment, are working to ensure new firearm owners are welcomed, educated, and encouraged to practice safe storage and handling of their new purchases. This has always been a top priority and will remain so with more than 8.4 million first-time gun buyers last year and more joining the community each day.

As the coronavirus vaccine rollout continues and community lockdowns are lifted, Americans will be more comfortable visiting friends and families again. Neighborhood get-togethers and family barbecues will mean more children and visitors in homes with warmer weather arriving. It is critical to remind firearm owners to keep unattended firearms safely stored and inaccessible to those who shouldn’t possess them.

The great news is that local firearm retailers are doing their part to reinforce safe storage principles. NSSF, the firearm industry’s trade association, is doing our part as well with several proven initiatives to reduce firearm accidents.

Community Retailers as Safety Source

More than 21 million background checks for the sale of a firearm were run last year. Forty percent of those were first-time gun buyers. African-Americans purchased firearms at a rate that was 58 percent higher than in 2019. Hispanic-American firearm purchasing rose 49 percent during the same period and Asian-American purchases rose nearly 43 percent. The first quarter of 2021 saw an NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of almost 5.4 million, an increase of 13.3 percent over the first quarter of 2020, making this the highest first-quarter on record. The local retailers selling firearms are the first crucial contact to creating a culture of firearm safety.

Mike Sian, a firearm instructor at Spectrum Fitness in Minot, N.D., understands the importance of providing a welcoming face to new gun owners looking for education.

“You don’t want accidents to happen. And I think a lot of times the accidents happen because of the lack of education and training and curiosity,” Sian explained.

He emphasizes the importance of gun safety kits and firearm locks for unattended firearms, especially with children around. “You don’t know what it is, and it’s exposed and children are curious.”

In Claycomo, Mo., Don Pind explains why he spends time instructing new gun owners.

“A gun is supposed to make you feel better, that you can protect yourself if need be,” Pind said. “If you don’t have the proper training, all it is is a good paperweight.”

From North Dakota to Texas, Florida to California, Americans are proactively seeking out firearm education, training, practice opportunities and resources and their local firearm retailer is there to help with an open door and a smile.

Reducing Tragedies

One of NSSF’s firearm safety initiatives is Project ChildSafe, a campaign to promote safe firearm storage in the home. Since 1999, NSSF has partnered with more than 15,000 local law enforcement agencies in all 50 states to distribute over 40 million firearm safety kits, including free locking devices.

In Albuquerque, City Councilor Brooke Bassan praised two recent Project ChildSafe drive-through community events where parents with firearms in the home could receive educational materials and firearm locks, no questions asked.

“We gave out free gun locks and information about responsible firearm safety in the home,” Bassan said, explaining 1,000 gun locks were passed out. “Reducing violence, helping to reduce tragedy, and making our city safer is so critically important.”

Successful events like these in Albuquerque are happening across the country as safe firearm storage remains a priority of new and experienced firearm owners alike.

Continuing Positive Trends

Responsible and safe firearm handling and storage comes with education and practice and leads to a more confident and mindful gun owner. NSSF has invested in Real Solutions to create safer communities. In addition to Project ChildSafe, NSSF programs like Don’t Lie For the Other Guy and Operation Secure Store ensure firearms remain beyond the reach of those who shouldn’t possess them. The FixNICS initiative increased reporting of disqualifying adjudicated mental health records to the FBI from 1.7 million in 2013 to over 6 million today, a 266 percent increase. NSSF also partnered with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to encourage gun owners to have a brave conversation and prevent the tragedy of suicide by firearm. A clear focus on a culture of firearm safety resulted in the lowest number of unintentional firearm fatalities in more than 100 years since record-keeping began in 1903.

As Americans begin to return to normal life, including more visits and celebrating with friends and family, it’s crucial that safe and responsible firearm storage remain a top priority for America’s gun owners, so the numbers continue in the right direction.

EOTECH Vudu 5-25×50 FFP Adds Horus TREMOR3 Reticle http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ammoland/~3/zeiIdHQv5rY/ EOTECH Vudu 5-25×50 FFP Adds Horus TREMOR3 Reticle

U.S.A.-(AmmoLand.com)- Today’s marksmen rely on advanced optics technology for rapid target acquisition and long-range precision under all lighting conditions. The battle-tested Vudu® 5-25×50 FFP now offers an illuminated Horus™ TREMOR3™reticle for superior long-range accuracy. The Horus TREMOR3 reticle allows Vudu shooters to quickly and accurately estimate target range and size while compensating for bullet drop and wind.

This next-generation TREMOR3 reticle takes advantage of the Vudu 5-25×50 first focal plane design for accurate distance estimation, bullet drop, and wind correction subtensions at any magnification. The uniform 0.2 milliradian Horus grid provides numerous aiming points, allowing for pin-point precision without guesswork. The reticle features refined “chevron” mil markers, at 0.1 milliradians, throughout the reticle for precise target range and size estimation. Vertical chevrons are ideal for milling target height, and horizontal chevrons for milling target width.

The Horus TREMOR3 features patented Time-of-Flight wind dots, providing accurate wind calls without the need to consult a ballistic chart or count numerous subtensions. A quick calculation using Horus’s online TREMOR Wind Dot Calculator calibrates the reticle’s wind dots for bullet ballistics and density altitude.

Easy-to-read Rapid Range Bars enable quick estimates of the range to known-size targets. The numbered vertical hash marks on both sides of the main horizontal crosshair indicate leads for targets moving at speeds up to 10 mph and work for many common calibers from about 200-500 yards. Both estimating systems work with the Accuracy 1st Speed Shooting Formula.

Built to perform in any condition, the light-weight and waterproof Vudu 5-25×50 FFP scope features a 34mm, shock-resistant, aircraft-grade aluminum tube with a hard-anodized, durable finish. Its multi-coated XC High-Density glass maximizes light transmission and offers accurate color reproduction for exceptional edge-to-edge optical clarity and resolution.

The Vudu 5-25×50 FFP excels in both day and night applications. An etched reticle provides crisp hash marks for daylight shooting and with a simple push of a button, the illuminated reticle gives shooters the edge in low-light. With ten brightness levels, it easily adapts to any situation. Thanks to its compact design, there’s ample room for a night vision or thermal device. A 2-hour auto-shutoff protects the batteries from draining.

The one-piece eyepiece makes transitioning from low to high magnification easy and fluid. The included, removable throw lever is easy to locate and allows shooters quick magnification changes. Vudu’s surgically precise EZ Chek (Zero Stop) Tactical Turrets allow shooters to re-index to zero after sighting in their optic, allowing for confident windage and elevation adjustments in the field to ensure critical shots hit their mark when it matters most.
