Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. This week will be a little different. We are honoring the late, great DMX who passed away last Friday. DMX had a heart attack on April 2nd and succumbed a week later. He was 50 years old and was preparing for his comeback. There is a completed album he finished before passing away. DMX hit the scene by dropping 2 platinum albums in one year. It’s Dark and Hell is Hot dropped in May of 1998 and went 4x platinum. Flesh of my Flesh, Blood of my Blood was released in December of 1998. The album sold over 3 million copies. Get at Me Dog, Stop Being Greedy, Ruff Ryders Anthem and How’s It Goin Down were the four singles for his debut joint. Those four cuts along with Niggaz Done Started Something are my top 5 tracks. The Lox, Mase and Drag-On were featured on the album.

Flesh of my Flesh, Blood of my Blood was the second album dropped by DMX. Slippin was his big single and probably my favorite DMX cut ever. Jay-Z, The Lox, Drag-On, Swizz Beatz, Mary J. Blige and Marilyn Manson appeared on the album. Blackout, It’s All Good, We Don’t Give a Fuck and No Love 4 Me along with Slippin are my favorite five. For my Throwback Thursday, we will highlight both of DMX’s first two albums. Rest in Peace to the legendary DMX. We all will miss you and never forget you. Check out the track listing and stream links below for It’s Dark and Hell is Hot. After that, check the track listing and stream links below for Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood.

DMX's powerful work confronted an American hell of trauma and poverty https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/apr/10/dmx-powerful-work-confronted-american-hell-trauma-died The rapper, who has died aged 50, parlayed his life’s difficulties into thrilling, combative, witheringly witty music

Listening to a DMX song from the late 1990s is like riding a wrecking ball through a gated community. The music video for Stop Being Greedy – one of many confrontational highlights from the rapper’s 1998 Def Jam debut, It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot – shows DMX hunting a wealthy white man across a mansion, before eventually feeding the poor soul like a T-bone steak to his pet pitbull; the rapper’s exhilarating, half-barked vocals gave the sense that he wanted to eat the rich.

It’s a song about the poor feeling so ignored that they have no choice but to confront the ruling classes (“Ribs is touching, so don’t make me wait / Fuck around and I’m gon’ bite you and snatch the plate”) and violently rip up their rules, and its message reflected an urge by DMX – who died on Friday at the age of 50 – to liberate a hip-hop culture that by 1998 had become too preoccupied with shiny suits in tacky music videos filmed inside a blingy Rubik’s Cube.

DMX Dead at 50 Years Old After Being Taken Off Life Support Following Overdose http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/gossiponthis/~3/OlM3y38V_DE/

Earl Simmons, better known as the legendary rapper DMX, has died at the age of 50 years old less than a week after he was rushed to the hospital for an OD that caused him to have a heart attack.

His family confirmed his passing via the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end.

“He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”

The extremely sad news comes after TMZ reported yesterday that he hadn’t regained any brain function in the days since he was hospitalized.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ, the battery of tests performed on X Wednesday showed no improvement in brain activity since he was rushed to the hospital after suffering the OD late Friday night.

As we reported, he had little brain function after being deprived of oxygen for nearly half an hour.

More via TMZ:

DMX got his start in music back in the ’80s, performing with Ready Ron — while simultaneously serving time behind bars … until he finally dedicated himself to music full-time in the ’90s. He eventually got signed to Columbia Records’ Ruffhouse imprint, and appeared on records with Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Mase and even the rock band Sum 41.

It wasn’t until ’98 that he truly broke out, when he released his Ruff Ryders debut studio album “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot” to critical and mainstream acclaim … not to mention he added his new canine persona.

‘IDAHIH’ produced 4 singles, including the well-known “Get At Me Dog,” “How’s It Goin’ Down,” “Stop Being Greedy” … and the track that might perhaps his best known, the “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem,” which became to be the song everyone played to get hyped.

‘Ruff Ryders” has gone down in history as one of the greatest hip-hop songs ever, and it ended up making it on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

He followed up that success quickly with a 2nd album later the same year — “Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood” came out in December of ’98, and ended up hitting #1. At the time, he was the second rapper to release back-to-back albums in the same year … the first being Tupac.

At that point, DMX had cemented himself and his sound … abrasive, rough around the edges, but also catchy and great for parties and getting amped. His third album hit that last point home with his single “Party Up (Up in Here)” … another one of X’s notorious songs that helped him get major play on radio, in clubs and in movies.

Speaking of movies, X himself made his feature film debut in 2000’s “Romeo Must Die,” which starred Jet Li playing a version of Romeo opposite Aaliyah.

He went on to star in a number of memorable flicks after that as the 2000s rolled on — “Exit Wounds” and “Cradle 2 the Grave” come to mind … so do “Never Die Alone” and “Last Hour.” Safe to say, X was making a name for himself both in and out of music … but of course, he was fighting legal battles in the background at the same time.

Over the years, he got rung up on many charges — weapons, drugs, DUI and later tax evasion. He served time for some of those cases, but always continued his music career.

As he struggled with the law, X continued to crank out hits … including the memorable “X Gon’ Give It to Ya,” “Where the Hood At?” and “Lord Give Me a Sign” as well as “We in Here.”

He really seemed to turn his life around in 2019 after ending a 12-month sentence for tax evasion. DMX had long battled substance abuse and it was at this point that he did his last rehab stint.

Afterward, he was looking better than he had in years and made his return to the stage in December 2019 when he hit Hakkasan in Las Vegas, chatting it up and taking photos with fans before he hit the stage.

In another sign of just how beloved he was by fans and the industry … DMX, of all people, created a new Christmas classic in 2012 when he freestyled his own version of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” It had all the charm his audience had come to love about the man.

In July 2020, fans worldwide watched as legends DMX and Snoop Dogg faced off in a Verzuz battle with over 500,000 viewers on Instagram Live.

The rappers complemented each other as they spit some of their most iconic tracks, like when DMX hopped on and joined Snoop for ‘Ain’t No Fun.’ Snoop also got down with “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Gin and Juice” while DMX spit “Where My Dogs At” and his megahit-song “X Gon’ Give It To Ya,” which brought Snoop out of his seat.

The last time our cameras caught him out was in July 2019 … and DMX talked to us about the importance of being safe on movie sets when doing action scenes/stunts.

DMX is survived by his 15 children. The youngest was born in 2016 to his fiancee, Desiree Lindstrom.

Ghetto Quran by 50 Cent for Throwback Thursday http://www.daddyshangout.com/2021/04/08/ghetto-quran-by-50-cent-for-throwback-thursday/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ghetto-quran-by-50-cent-for-throwback-thursday

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. My playlist this week consisted of a lot of mixtapes. Southern Smoke 21, DJ Chuck T & 50 Cent, Dirty Harry and a Street Sweepers joint from Kay Slay. G Unit Radio 2 was also played, plus What a Time to Be Alive from Drake & Future. To finish things off, a couple of my personal joints to go with Short Dog’s in the House were on my list. We will highlight 50 Cent this week. As we all know, 50 have pretty much left hip hop behind and producing TV shows. We know about the highly popular and successful Power, but he’s got the show Life on ABC also. Recently, he’s been teasing a show or movie about the BMF after his Power spinoff shows.

Before all the television stuff, 50 killed the rap game with his Get Rich or Die Trying debut. Afterwards, the platinum records kept on coming. Hunger for More from Lloyd Banks and Straight Outta Cashville from Young Buck both sold well. The Documentary from Game and Tony Yayo’s debut joint sold great also. The Documentary from Game is viewed as one of the best hip hop albums ever. 50 also released a movie and soundtrack for Get Rich or Die Trying also. Before all that, 50 Cent was on the grind before getting shot. 50 Cent was set to release an album called the Power of the Dollar, but was shot and it never came out. Many people remember his track, How to Rob which had a lot of rappers pissed. One of the best tracks 50 ever recorded was called ghetto Quran.

Ghetto Quran was one of the highlights of the album and it’s my featured Throwback Thursday joint. The Power of the Dollar featured UGK and Destiny’s Child. The album is really dope and gutter which is what you expect from 50 Cent. Ghetto Quran, The Good Die Young, Corner Bodega, As the World Turns and How to Rob are my top 5 track. Check out the track listing below and unfortunately, this album is not available to stream.

  1. Intro
  2. The Hit
  3. The Good Die Young
  4. Corner Bodega (Coke Spot)
  5. Your Life’s on the Line
  6. That Ain’t Gangsta
  7. As the World Turns ft. UGK
  8. Ghetto Quran (Forgive Me)
  9. Da Repercussions
  10. Money by Any Means ft. Noreaga
  11. Material Girl ft. Dave Hollister
  12. Thug Love ft. Destiny’s Child
  13. Slow Doe
  14. Gun Runner ft. Black Child

The Resurrection from the Geto Boys Turns 25 Years Old http://www.daddyshangout.com/2021/04/02/the-resurrection-from-the-geto-boys-turns-25-years-old/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-resurrection-from-the-geto-boys-turns-25-years-old

The Geto Boys is one of the illest groups to ever pick up a mic. They first hit the scene back in the late-80s and earned their first platinum plaque in 1991. We Can’t Be Stopped was the album and many have ranked it as one of the greatest hip hop albums ever. We Can’t Be Stopped is also known for the album cover as they exit the hospital. This is where Bushwick Bill shot himself in the eye. Speaking of Bill, rest in peace to him seeing he passed away in June of 2019. Two years later, the Geto Boys released their classic, Til Death Do Us Part. The Til Death Do Us Part album is where they replaced Willie D with Big Mike because of differences between him and Scarface. Three years later, they all reunited for their 5th album called The Resurrection.

The Resurrection debuted as the #1 album when it was released 25 years ago today. The World is a Ghetto was the lead single and was just featured as my Throwback Thursday joint. The Resurrection eventually went gold and for me, this was another dope Geto Boys record. They released a video for Geto Fantasy, but it was never an official single. Overall, The Resurrection album was well-received by fans and critics. The World is a Ghetto, Geto Fantasy, Hold It Down, Point of No Return and Still are my top 5 tracks. Check out the track listing and stream links below.

  1. Ghetto Prisoner
  2. Still
  3. The World is a Ghetto
  4. Open Minded ft. DMG
  5. Killer 4 Scratch
  6. Hold It Down ft. Facemob
  7. Blind Leading the Blind ft. Menace Clan
  8. First Light of the Day
  9. Time Taker
  10. Geto Boys and Girls
  11. Geto Fantasy
  12. I Just Wanna Die
  13. Niggas and Flies

Rihanna's 30 greatest singles – ranked! https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2021/apr/01/rihannas-30-greatest-singles-ranked With a rumoured ninth album on the way – the follow-up to 2016’s Anti – we examine Rihanna’s singles and pick the 30 best

A buoyant paean to the quick-fix method of forgetting life’s worries by getting drunk, complete with big-up for the restorative powers of Jameson’s whiskey and a nod to Tyra Banks’s character in Coyote Ugly, Cheers (Drink to That) sounds elated and chaotic in equal measure: a messy night out in musical form.

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. With it being Good Friday, several people will have a three day weekend. This week my playlist consisted of a lot of mixtapes and it was five to be exact. G Unit Radio 14, Southern Smoke 21, Street Wars 2, Blend City 17 and Sexual Tendencies were the ones. The King album from T.I., the new Lox album, The Resurrection from the Geto Boys and Eardrum from Talib Kweli rounded out my week. On Friday, the Resurrection album from the Geto Boys will turn 25 years old. The members of the Geto Boys were Scarface, Willie D and the late, great Bushwick Bill. Bushwick Bill passed away almost two years ago from Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. The featured Throwback Thursday track is the only single they released and it’s the World is a Ghetto.

The World is a Ghetto was their first single they released in about three years. The World is a Ghetto helped the Resurrection reach gold status. The Geto Boys was one of my favorite groups when I first got into hip hop. Check out the video for The World is a Ghetto above. Peep the track listing and stream links to check out the Resurrection album.

T.I. King Album Dropped 15 Years Ago Today http://www.daddyshangout.com/2021/03/28/t-i-king-album-dropped-15-years-ago-today/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=t-i-king-album-dropped-15-years-ago-today

It’s hard to believe that it’s going on 20 years since T.I. dropped I’m Serious. T.I. is still putting out music as he released 11th solo album, The Libra last year. The Libra was a dope project and proved why he’s a legend and one of the best to ever do it. 15 years ago today, T.I. released King which was his fourth project. King was the follow-up to Urban Legend, which was dope. Of course, Urban Legend came after Trap Muzik, which I think is a flawless album. T.I. was definitely on a run during this time because King cemented his legacy in my opinion. Trap Muzik, Urban Legend and King were a dope three album run from the King of the South. King debuted #1 when it was released and it was another platinum album to add to the catalog.

What You Know was the first single off the King album and DJ Toomp did his thing. What You Know was a hard track and the single would eventually go double platinum. Why You Wanna was the second single off the King album. Why You Wanna was another dope track, but it didn’t do as well as the first single. The track earned T.I. a gold plaque and established him as one of the bigger stars in the rap game. The third single featured Jaime Foxx on the hook and it was called Live in the Sky. Live in the Sky is one of the better tracks off the album. It didn’t see the success as his previous two singles, but it was a great track. The fourth and final single was the remix to Top Back. Top Back eventually went gold and made three of four singles charting.

King is one of my top 5 albums from T.I. It actually is my fourth favorite album from the King of the South. What You Know, Live in the Sky, Goodlife, I’m Straight and Front Back are my top 5 tracks. UGK, Jeezy, B.G., Common, Jamie Foxx, Young Back, Young Dro, Pharrell, DJ Drama and the PSC all appear on King. Check out the track listing below and it’s followed by the stream links.

It’s hard to believe that on September 13th of this year will mark the 25th anniversary of Pac passing. Before his passing, Pac released 4 solo albums, Thug Life and countless appearances. One thing you hear about Pac after his passing was his crazy work ethic. More music came about from Pac after death then he released while alive. One of those gems was his album, Until the End of Time. The double album was his seventh total and third posthumous release. Makaveli was the first and R U Still Down? (Remember Me) was the second. Until the End of Time debuted number one and it sold over 426,000 copies in the first week. Until the End of Time eventually went 4 X platinum. The only track that produced a video was the title track and it featured R.L. from Next.

The Until the End of Time single was huge and the video was amazing. Letter 2 My Unborn was the other single, but no video was ever produced. Overall, Until the End of Time is a great album from 2Pac. When it dropped, he was only gone a little over 4 years. Disc 1 & 2 has it fair share of hits and just some great music. Letter 2 My Unborn, Breathin’, Ballad of a Dead Soulja, Good Life and the title track are top 5 on Disc 1. The tracks When Thugz Cry, U Don’t Have 2 Worry, Words 2 My First Born, This Ain’t Livin’ and My Closest Roaddogz are my favorite five on Disc 2.  Check out the track listing followed by the streams links below.

The Coming From Busta Rhymes Turns 25 Years Old Today http://www.daddyshangout.com/2021/03/26/the-coming-from-busta-rhymes-turns-25-years-old-today/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-coming-from-busta-rhymes-turns-25-years-old-today

Busta Rhymes has been a staple of hip hop for 30 years now. Before we knew him as the legend he is today, he was a part of the Leaders of the New School. They released a pair of albums in the 1991 and 1993. Busta got his big break when he appeared on the smash-hit Scenario by Tribe Called Quest. Busta had the charisma and energy that people gravitated to. In 1996, he released his debut album, The Coming. Before that, he appeared on the Flava in Ya Ear Remix which was huge when it was released. The Coming eventually went platinum as his single, Whoo Hah! Got You All in Check blew up. The single also went platinum and it established Busta as one of the rappers to look out for. About four months later, Busta released the second single off the Coming.

It’s a Party was the track and it featured Zhane who had a dope single Hey Mr. DJ at the time. It’s a Party was another great track off the album. The Coming featured Q-Tip, Def Squad, and Leaders of the New School and members of his Flipmode Squad. Overall, the Coming is a great album and one that had many anticipating more from Busta Rhymes. The Coming officially turns 25 years old today. The two singles, Do My Thing, Everything Remains Raw and Ill Vibe are my top 5 tracks. Check out the videos for Woo Hah! Got You All in Check and It’s a Party above. Peep the track listing and stream links below.

  1. The Coming (Intro) ft. Lord Have Mercy & Rampage
  2. Do My Thing
  3. Everything Remains Raw
  4. Abandon Ship ft. Rampage
  5. Woo Hah! Got You All in Check ft. Rampage
  6. It’s a Party ft. Zhane
  7. Hot Fudge
  8. Ill Vibe ft. Q-Tip
  9. Flipmode Squad Meets Def Squad ft. Jamal, Redman, Keith Murray, Rampage & Lord Have Mercy
  10. Still Shining
  11. Keep It Movin’ ft. Leaders of the New School
  12. The Finish Line

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. My playlist this week consisted of a little bit of everything as usual. Until the End of Time by 2Pac, The Coming from Busta Rhymes and a mixtape from the Realest started things. Street Wars 8, Maino and Cam’Rom’s debut, Scarface Deeply Rooted and the Dayton Family was also played. The final album I’ll mention with have my featured Throwback Thursday track. Late Registration from Kanye West is the album and Touch the Sky is the joint. Touch the Sky featured a young lyricist at the time by the name of Lupe Fiasco. The following year Lupe would release his classic debut, Food and Liquor. On Touch the Sky, Fiasco murdered his verse as it gets mad props till this day. Touch the Sky is one of the many classics off of Late Registration.

Last year, the album officially turned 15 years old. Late Registration went on to receive many major accolades. Besides going 4X platinum, it also won several awards in the process. Late Registration is mentioned as one of the best albums of 2005 and of all-time. Jay-Z, Adam Levine, Jamie Foxx, Cam’Ron, Paul Wall, Nas, Common, The Game and Brandy all make appearances. Touch the Sky is a dope track and Late Registration is a great album. Check out the video for Touch the Sky above. Peep the track listing and stream links below.

TRPL-Z – “Wanderlust” (Album Review) https://undergroundhiphopblog.com/albums/trpl-z-wanderlust-album-review/

TRPL-Z is a Miami, FL based lyricist and SmallVillain is a Beatmaker from Chile and these guys recently teamed up to bring us “Wanderlust”. This is a 12 track album coming in at exactly 40 minutes and 40 seconds and featuring Ian Gahona, Douglass & NCS Aravena. I’ll be honest, it’s worth the 40 minutes. But let’s get into it.

“Get down” is a stand out. Jazzy production from SmallVillain that forces you to bop your head. Ian Gahona delivers a funky and mad catchy hook while TRPL-Z brings the bars, the flows and a brilliant cadence. The signature grit gives his verses the kind of presence that can be felt through your speakers. These three made a hit with this one.

“Pied Piper” is the 6th track on this album and in terms of song placement, it’s perfect. SmallVillain and Z are both more than warmed up, bringing the heat with the production and the vocals. Another ‘best of’ performance from Z as he rides the melodic keys and dynamic percussion with ease. Flows for days and rhyme schemes to match a couple legends. Top that all of with a clean hook and this is a vibe.

“Tired Again” is another dope track. SmallVillain cooks up some more Jazzy vibes with some nicely executed sample based production. Z consistently blesses the beat with a stack of hard hitting bars. This is a solid track about what life can really be like for many. Z is such a wordsmith and he proves it by painting pictures all over this song with his lyricism but more than that, he makes you feel it too. This song adds some nice depth to the project as a whole.

This album is a very well put together body of work! Z is such a force and SmallVillain’s production is the perfect compliment to his style. Some honourable mentions are “Live On”,   “Cocinando” and “Hearts Outro”. Take some time to check the album out and follow TRPL-Zon Instagram: @trpl_z666

Score: 7/10

Welcome to another Thursday, which mean we are closer to the weekend. My playlist this week consisted of Westside Connection, Loyal to the Game by 2Pac and the Hot Boys debut album. E40’s Hall of Game, Tank’s debut and Rated G from Top Authority are other projects that got played. We are going in another direction for this one. We have a new Verzuz taking place this Saturday between Ghostface and Raekwon. Raekwon the Chef will battle Ghostface Killah in what should be an epic Verzuz. It’s hard to believe that it’s almost been 30 years since the 36 Chambers dropped. Raekwon and Ghostface have always been with one another after they appeared on Only Built 4 Cuban Lind together. They have both released a plethora of solo joints and have arguably the best discography in the Wu Tang Clan.

We will return to that Only Built 4 Cuban Linx album to find a featured Throwback Thursday track. Ice Cream comes to mind, but that one has already been done. Heaven & Hell in the featured track and it’s one of those dope tracks off the classic album. Check out the track, Heaven & Hell above. Check out the classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx below. First, the track listing and it’s followed by the stream links.

Kanye West is Now the Wealthiest Black Man in American History With $6.6 Billion Net Worth http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/gossiponthis/~3/h9y3Y58nwQw/

Kanye West is now reportedly worth $6.6 billion dollars, which makes him the wealthiest Black man in American history.

According to new reports, the 43-year-old rapper’s Yeezy sneaker and clothing company, which is valued between $3.2 billion and $4.7 billion, accounts for a large portion of his massive net worth.

Kanye’s Yeezy brand also has deals with Adidas and Gap, with the latter of which reportedly being worth as much as $970 million.

West currently has full ownership and creative control of the Yeezy brand by himself, and he previously signed a 10-year agreement last summer to design and sell clothes under the Yeezy Gap label.

Under the Gap deal, West will design items for men, women and kids. And while his arrangement with Gap excludes footwear, his contract with Adidas lasts until 2026.

A report from Bloomberg noted that Ye’s new Gap line is expected “to break $150 million in sales in its first full year in 2022.”

Kanye is reported to have $122 million in cash and stock, along with a music catalog that’s worth $110 million. The rapper also has $1.7 billion in other assets, including his estranged Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS business.

Back in April 2020, Kanye called out Forbes and accused the publication of listing his net worth incorrectly. At the time, Forbes reported that Ye’s net worth was $1.3 billion, but Kanye was very adamant he was worth more than $3 billion.

“It’s not a billion. It’s $3.3 billion since no one at Forbes knows how to count,” the rapper said in a text message to the magazine’s editor.

Famous Dex Arrested for Gun Possession Days After Being Robbed at Gunpoint http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/gossiponthis/~3/bX0rwONyV9U/

Famous Dex seems to be having the worst week ever.

Just days after he was robbed at gunpoint, TMZ is reporting that the rapper was busted by police while carrying a loaded gun.

Police say the rapper was riding in the backseat of a car Tuesday night (Mar. 16) when LAPD pulled it over in North Hollywood for not having a rear license plate.

During the traffic stop, Dex allegedly tried to get out and walk away, but cops stopped him and continued to search the vehicle.

It’s unknown what sparked the investigation, but according to TMZ’s sources, a loaded pistol was discovered during the search, and he was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm—a felony charge.

Dex was booked on the charge and his bail was set at $35,000. He remained behind bars as of the time this article was published.

The news comes just days after reports emerged that the rapper was robbed at gunpoint last Wednesday (Mar. 10).

According to TMZ (via police sources), Dex said he got together with a friend in the San Fernando Valley area of L.A. who allowed him to borrow a $50K watch for a video shoot. Not long after the friend gave him the watch, Dex said he was followed by a group of people.

When Dex stopped his car, he said several men pulled guns on him, demanding that he hand over the expensive watch and the thousands of dollars of cash he had on him. As of now, there have been no arrests in his robbery case.

You gotta feel sorry for the guy, though. First, he gets robbed, so he carries a gun for protection, and then he gets arrested for carrying a gun to protect himself. A hell of a catch-22 if you ask us.

Mark 4ord – “Exotics” Ft. DJ Manipulator (Video) https://undergroundhiphopblog.com/videos/mark-4ord-exotics-ft-dj-manipulator-video/

Oxnard, California just brought home a grammy with the likes of Anderson Paak 2 days ago. But the city by the beach is also known for its rich Culture and Hip Hop scene such as Madlib, Kankick, Medaphor etc. In this current climate, the world needs to see what Mark 4ord is doing in Oxnard and Hip Hop period. One week ago Mark 4ord released his latest album titled “Haiku’s From Pluto.” This is his fourth solo album within a year’s time.

4ord is one of our favorites out of oxnard..and Hip-Hop in general right now. Every project we have heard, we have heard growth. His style is also something that we really like at UGHHB. This new video is for “Exotics” which is off The Haiku’s album.

On this track, Mark lets it be known that he is perfectly comfortable with being slept on because there is a bigger picture…

“Life is short, what you view important? Purchase property, my monopoly amongst exotic porsches.”

This week I wrote about the glaring lack of international inclusivity in the Grammys’ newly redubbed global music (formerly world music) category.

In the category’s 38-year history, almost 80% of African nations have never had an artist nominated; no Middle Eastern or eastern European musician has ever won; every winner in the past eight years has been a repeat winner; and nearly two-thirds of the nominations have come from just six countries (the US, the UK, Brazil, Mali, South Africa, India). The situation shows little signs of improving.

Music's biggest stars will converge in Los Angeles for the 2021 Grammy Awards on March 14.

The Grammys honor the biggest and brightest artists in music each year. This year's nominees include pop stars like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, who are both up for over five awards each.

The ceremony will be hosted by Trevor Noah, and the show will feature a number of musical performances. The lineup of artists set to perform includes Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny, BTS, Harry Styles, Megan Thee Stallion, Taylor Swift, and more.

If you want to catch all the action during the music industry's biggest night, here's how you can stream the show live this Sunday.

How to watch the 2021 Grammy Awards

CBS will air the 2021 Grammy Awards on March 14 at 8 p.m. ET. You can watch the Grammys live through CBS on cable, over-the-air TV, or streaming services with access to the CBS channel.

One of the most affordable ways to watch the Grammys live on CBS without cable is through Paramount Plus (formerly CBS All Access). The service costs $6 a month for the ad-supported plan, or $10 a month for the commercial-free option. However, the "ad-free" feature only applies to on-demand shows in the Paramount Plus library.

If you sign up for Paramount Plus before March 31 you can receive a one-month trial. This is the longest trial period among major streaming services right now and it will allow you to watch the Grammys for free.

Both the ad-supported and ad-free plan include access to your live CBS station in most TV markets. That said, the ad-supported plan will be replaced by a cheaper $5 monthly option in June, and this new plan will no longer include live CBS. You can find more information in our Paramount Plus guide.

Plus Monthly Subscription (small)

Another option for CBS is Locast, a non-profit live TV streaming service with access to local networks. The app relies on donations to keep it afloat and is currently available in 30 markets. Though technically free, Locast will interrupt your stream every couple of minutes if you don't pay the suggested $5 monthly donation fee.

Streaming Subscription (small)

Other live TV streaming services with CBS include Fubo TV, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, and AT&T TV. These options cost between $65 and $70 a month for their base packages. They all provide a large selection of live channels, which makes them a better alternative to cable than Paramount Plus or Locast. If you want the most channels for your money, we recommend Fubo TV for its 122 channel lineup.

The Grammys feature nominations across several different categories to represent all genres of music, including a general field and specific fields for different musical styles.

The Notorious BIG: his 20 greatest tracks – ranked! https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/mar/05/the-notorious-big-his-20-greatest-tracks-ranked As Netflix airs an intimate documentary about the late hip-hop legend, we pick his finest moments, from sublime braggadocio to gripping storytelling

In its original version a nasty sex rhyme – “I got the cleanest, meanest penis” etc – the remix tones down the lyrics and smooths the music by way of DeBarge’s 1983 hit Stay With Me, drafting in a vocal from Biggie’s wife, Faith Evans, to spectacular effect. End result: a beautifully languid slow jam.

Lil Jon Crunkest Hits, Hell on Earth from Mobb Deep and the New Jack City Soundtrack. Speaking of New Jack City, this week marks the 30th anniversary of the classic movie and soundtrack. In 1994, Crime Boss dropped the southern classic, All in the Game which is one of classic Suave House albums you should peep. All in the Game was an album I had the cassette and later on the CD. My featured Throwback Thursday joint is Put ‘Em Up.

For all you hip hop heads, Crime Boss was introduced to the world on the classic track, Lay It Down. Lay It Down was featured on 8Ball & MJG’s 2nd album, On tha Outside Lookin’ In. “This was a four-year journey for us,” film-maker Emmett Malloy tells the Guardian of his ambitious new documentary that aims to tell the story of Christopher Wallace, more famously known as the Notorious BIG. He was murdered at the age of 24 in Los Angeles and a week away from the 24th anniversary if his death, Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell is landing on Netflix.

Malloy partnered with Biggie’s estate manager Wayne Barrow, and the late rapper’s 68-year-old mother, Voletta Wallace in order to bring to fruition a true representation of the rapper’s real upbringing – the glorious moments and the glorified.

'Lynching was treated as a celebratory event': Adrian Younge on the history of US racism https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2021/feb/24/lynching-was-treated-as-a-celebratory-event-adrian-younge-on-the-history-of-us-racism Already a law professor turned soul composer, Younge explains his latest project, encompassing an album, podcast and short film

“I’m sacrificing myself to deliver a message,” says the composer, multi-instrumentalist and now podcast-maker Adrian Younge. “We aren’t aware enough of black history, nor of the integral role black people have played in building America. There is an educational sterilisation going on and it’s my duty to make people understand that history of racism – something America has pioneered.”

With more than 400 years to cover since US slavery began, Younge’s project to educate the public is a vast and complex one. Yet, speaking on a video call surrounded by analogue recording equipment in his LA studio, it is a story Younge believes he has spent his life and career building up to. “This is my What’s Going On project, my record talking about why we are in the place that we are in,” he says. “It’s as if James Baldwin hooked up with Marvin Gaye to make a record produced by David Axelrod. It’s psychedelic soul but it is very professorial at the same time. There’s so many layers to it.”

Q&A with West Philly’s King Shampz https://undergroundhiphopblog.com/qa-interviews/qa-with-west-phillys-king-shampz/

We at UGHHBLOG got the chance to tap in with one of the dopest spitters out of Philly, King Shampz and catch up on his roots and inspirations in hip-hop, as well as his plans for 2021.

Peace fam, so can you tell us how being from West Philly inspired you to building a career in Hip Hop?

Well being from West Philly definitely had an impact on my upbringing in more ways than one. When it comes to Hip Hop though, outside of my love for the art form, I would have to say the yearning for a better existence. Growing up in the ghetto, there are not many ways out so Hip Hop is for better or for worse, one of the avenues many youths consider an escape. I, for one believe Hip Hop has definitely been an outlet for many to remain positive and on the right side of the tracks and has also presented many rags to riches stories that give youth hope. These success stories tell you that your dreams can one day can become reality.

How did your family’s background in music affect you and your brothers approach?

Coming from a musical family, we heard any genre of music you can think of. Both our parents played instruments. Our dad listens to almost everything so we were always exposed to different types of music. So along with me and my brother being trained musicians as children, our exposure to eclectic sounds and music growing up dictates a great deal of our creativity. We love all types of music despite our focus being the genre Hip Hop so we will always implement various sounds into our music. So yes, our approach is definitely influenced by our family’s musical background/present.

What was your earliest inspiration to start taking Hip Hop seriously as a career?

Probably listening to the greats.  Artists like Jay-Z, Nas, Tupac and Biggie were always large influences. Listening to guys like that made me fall in love with the art form. Those guys inspired me to hone my craft and start taking rapping serious. Even to this day guys like them and Wu-Tang influence my writing and creative process.

What is it like working with your brother?

It’s really easy. Because we are brothers, our working relationship is natural. For instance, If he comes up with a beat, we’ll collaborate on the the hook together and I’ll write the lyrics. We critique each other, but it’s all for the greater good. Whatever makes the song better, we’re both open to ideas to improve it.

What were some of your earliest inspirations in hip hop?

Jay, Nas, Pac, BIG, Scarface, Outkast, Cam’ron, Beanie Sigel, Wu-Tang Clan and Mobb Deep are just some that come to mind. All legends.

You guys were mad young when you created your first label, what was it like being at that age and having such a vision? How has that helped you build to this day?

Looking up to guys like Suge Knight, Master P, Diddy, L.A Reid and of course the GOAT Berry Gordy. They changed black music forever. Since I had a entrepreneur mentality since a young age, it would only make sense that I would gravitate to these type of moguls and their stories. Having a label has been a dream of ours since we were young because we always wanted to have our own and to work for ourselves. The only thing we wanted then and now was distribution from a major label. Our learning from those who came before us successes and failures has been monumental. We have got a great game plan going forward.

What was your first project and how did its release affect you and your brothers careers?

We released “Kings of Kings Vol.1” almost 9 years ago. It was dope but very raw. We have learned alot since then. My brother has grown as a producer and I have grown as an artist. I think it taught us how to properly promote and market our music. We learned how to properly release music also. It was a great learning experience.

What is your approach to releasing music today?

We use different tactics. Soundcloud has been a platform that we have definitely utilized when it came to single releases. With “Dawn of The Dead” we released it on all streaming platforms. We decide before we release the music when and where it will be available. It all depends on how we want to package it. We try to be innovative in the ways we release our music.

Speaking of “Dawn Of The Dead,” that project showed you and your brothers range as an MC and your brother as a producer. What mindset did y’all have when crafting this album? How did its concept come about?

We wanted to showcase artists on our label and give out alot of shine. Of course we wanted to show off our skills but it was more so a mission statement. The East coast has got something to say. Word to Andre 3000. Point blank period. On the mainstream side of hip hop we don’t get many looks. Only on the underground. And if you do pop off, you sound like you are from another region. All the artists on the project are from the Philly area and NY. We are putting on for the east coast. We want to break through on radio with our sound. Perform all around the world. We have bigger aspirations than to sell out bars and small venues. That’s why our sound has expanded. We want it all.

Word! So that being said, what’s your plans for 2021? What can we look forward to next?

My EP will be out in a few months. After that, a label compilation will follow in the summer. Alot of surprises on the horizon. Stay on the lookout.

Most def! Lastly, we at UGHHBLOG always like to ask what’s your personal definition of underground hip hop?

Underground Hip Hop is where a lot of the good Hip Hop still resides. It’s underground because it’s not heard by the masses, but a lot of the music is truly amazing. Underground Hip Hop is untouched by commercial sheen. It is Hip Hop at its most natural and organic form. In other words, it is the heartbeat of the culture. And that’s how I’ll leave it. Salute to all of the artists out there doing their thing.

Kim Kardashian Files for Divorce from Kanye West After Almost 7 Years of Marriage http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/gossiponthis/~3/wHQWjpf92sE/

The marriage between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West has officially reached its endpoint.

Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from Kanye West after seven years of marriage, Page Six can confirm.

Kardashian’s well-known divorce lawyer Laura Wasser filed the papers on Friday.

Page Six exclusively revealed in January that Kardashian, 40, and West, 41, were headed for a split.

The couple had already been in the process of dealing with property settlements, and while West was photographed this week still wearing his wedding band, separate photos of Kardashian indicated that she had already started going without hers.

Kardashian has filed for joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s four children: daughters North, 7, Chicago, 3; and sons Saint, 5, and Psalm, who turns 2 in May.

Additionally, TMZ is reporting that Kanye has agreed to a joint custody arrangement and he and Kim are “committed to co-parenting together.”

There’s also an uncontested prenup in place and a property settlement agreement is about to be finalized.

The divorce documents currently do not list a date of separation.

Kim and Kanye got married back in May 2014 in an extravagant ceremony in Italy.

The final season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians premieres on March 18th, and we’re sure the divorce will be a major storyline.

Lotus Flower Bomb from Wale Featuring Miguel http://www.daddyshangout.com/2021/02/18/lotus-flower-bomb-from-wale-featuring-miguel/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lotus-flower-bomb-from-wale-featuring-miguel

Welcome to another Thursday as that means we’re closer to the weekend. As always, I’ll let you know what was on my playlist for the past week. The new Judas and the Messiah soundtrack and Jaheim’s Ghetto Classics kicked things off. Savage Life 2 from Webbie, UGK’s Super Tight and MC Ren’s Ruthless for Life were just a few joints played. The final album I’ll mention is where my featured Throwback Thursday will be coming. The album is Ambition from none other than Wale. Wale is one of the more underrated and underappreciated rappers over the last decade. Wale can spit and he talks a lot of real stuff in his music. It’s hard to believe that it will be 10 years in November since he dropped this joint. Ambition went on to sell over 500,000 copies and was the top rap album when it was released.

The featured Throwback Thursday track was the lead single from the album, Lotus Flower Bomb. Lotus Flower Bomb featured Miguel and it sold over two million singles. Lotus Flower Bomb was also nominated for the Best Rap Song also. This was one of my favorite joints off Ambition, which is a really good album. Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Big Sean, Jeremih, Lloyd, Kid Cudi & Ne-Yo appeared on the album. Don’t Hold Your Applause, Ambition, That Way and Miami Nights along with the featured track are my top 5 tracks. Below is the track listing for Ambition and it’s followed by the stream links.

  1. Don’t Hold Your Applause
  2. Double M Genius
  3. Miami Nights
  4. Legendary
  5. Lotus Flower Bomb ft. Miguel
  6. Chain Music
  7. Focused ft. Kid Cudi
  8. Sabotage ft. Lloyd
  9. White Linen ft. Ne-Yo
  10. Slight Work ft. Big Sean

Misfit Soto – “No Subliminal” (Album Review) https://undergroundhiphopblog.com/albums/misfit-soto-no-subliminal-album-review/

L.A’s very own Mexican-American triple threat, Misfit Soto, is back with another dope body of work titled “No Subliminal”. Misfit is not only a rapper, but a songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist too; it shows! This is an 8 track, West Coast project featuring Baby Bounce, Baldacci, Lido P, Player from the West & Diamond Dez. Let’s get into this!

“No Subliminal” is the introductory track and the namesake of the entire album. This is a dope way to kick us off. The production is clean with the slick, yet simple, guitar lock. Carried by the heavy 808 and some drums that you can’t help but bop your head to. Misfit, shows off his gifts on this one as he plays with words, flows and delivery to bring us a hard hitting introduction. We ready!

“Ten4” is a vibe and if you can’t bounce to this then you can’t be trusted. Melodies, heavy kicks, 808s, claps and a crazy catchy hook. Misfit and Player from the West both deliver dope verses with some flawless flows and clever wordplay. There are levels to this lyricism and both artist should be proud of this.

“Fake Love” is a big stand out! This was such a fresh flow and Misfit should be mad proud. Riding the beat like a true vet and storytelling like an acclaimed author. This is the kind of hook that only a songwriter can create. Misfit is a creative and you can hear it. The production was true to the West Coast sound. Clean melody and heavy 808s!

Misfit has brought us some hits in the past like “Paint” in 2020. I think it’s safe to say that he keeps up the trend with this album.   His Spotify bio tells us that he is driven to put Mexican-Americans on the map. With years in the game, we think he’s definitely earning his stripes and working his way to hearing “mission accomplished”. Go follow him on Instagram: @misfit_soto_skm

Score: 8/10
