Blockbuster Trade Scenario for Oilers and Blue Jackets

As the NHL Trade Deadline approaches, teams are scouting and calling each other, players are listening and looking and fans are gitty with excitement at a time of year where chaos often overpowers logic. Half the fun for fans is creating trade scenarios between teams, wondering if the names and players rumored to be available on the trade market might, somehow, make their way into town. Until an interview I conducted with Aaron Portzline of The Athletic and the NHL Network concluded, I nev...

Rick Nash Officially Retires From NHL

In what will likely be considered a non-shocking turn of events, on Friday morning, a statement released by Rick Nash and his agency, Top Shelf Sports Management, made the announcement that he is retiring from the game of professional hockey. The statement read: Due to unresolved issues/symptoms from the concussion sustained last March, Rick Nash will be forced to retire from the game of hockey. What the Sergei Bobrovsky-Blue Jackets 'incident' could mean for Flyers

It's safe to say the chances of Sergei Bobrovsky returning to the Blue Jackets in 2019-20 took a major hit Thursday. An incident occurred in which Sergei failed to meet those expectations and values, so we made the decision that he would not be with the team for tonight's game. According to a report by The Athletic's Aaron Portzline, a meeting regarding the matter will be held prior to Friday's practice in which Bobrovsky is expected to partake.

Earlier in the week, we heard rumblings that Rick Nash was officially filing papers to retire from the NHL. The report came from Rear Admiral of Barstool Sports, who tweeted on Tuesday that a source indicated to him that Nash was filing the paperwork and would announce his retirement. TSN’s Darren Dreger, per Nash’s agent Joe Resnick, reported later in the day that Nash would not be retiring at this time. The Bruins brought Nash in at the trade deadline a year ago with the hope that the power-fo...

Lyle Odelein’s Battle To Stay Alive

from Aaron Portzline of The Athletic, The coma lasted 40 days. Odelein had a multi-organ transplant in a single surgery that spanned nearly 24 hours, the likes of which had never been recorded in medical history. When he began to emerge from the coma in late April, another horror surfaced. Odelein was paralyzed from the neck down, with no promise that he would fully recover. Former NHL teammates who somehow found him at Allegheny Medical Center — the family kept this private, too — re...

NHL Rumors: Seguin, Panarin, Staal, More

In today’s rumor rundown, the Dallas Stars and Tyler Seguin are talking again and may be closer to working out a deal prior to the start of the season. In Columbus, things don’t look as promising as the team and star players Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky don’t seem to be on the same page. Eric Staal has made it known how he feels about the Minnesota Wild and Darnell Nurse may miss camp for the Edmonton Oilers. Jack Roslovic’s Time to Shine

Jack Roslovic probably wasn’t happy to see Paul Stastny leave the Winnipeg Jets this offseason. Then again, Stastny’s departure may have been the best thing for him. Stastny’s exit opens a hole in the Jets depth chart that Roslovic seems destined to fill. Both Jets fans and Roslovic himself should be excited about it because he could keep the Jets offense operating at high gear and give Winnipeg yet another weapon up front. Roslovic’s skill has been evident from day one. He quietly put together ...

Also, Artemi Panarin appears to be the next big name on the trade block and his agent seems to think Columbus would be wise to make that move right away. A heated debate has revolved around the status of Milan Lucic in Edmonton and the Penguins may move on from one of their depth centers. P...

The Latest On Artemi Panarin

from Sonny Sachdeva of Sportsnet, On Sunday, Panarin’s agent, Daniel Milstein, provided an update on his client’s position in a lengthy interview with The Athletic’s Aaron Portzline, confirming that the winger informed the Blue Jackets before the 2018 draft of his indecision regarding an extension with the club. It appears the central issues for the former Chicago Blackhawk are the term of a potential deal and simply the franchise’s location, as Panarin hasn’t yet decided whether he w...

Should the Oilers Go for Artemi Panarin?

It’s been a little while since we last looked at possible trade targets or free agent acquisitions for the Edmonton Oilers this summer but a name came across the NHL rumor wire that might just be too good not to at least look at. With the Oilers heavily rumored to be looking at moving Milan Lucic, should they, they’ll be taking away a left wing spot in their top six and could need to look at replacing it. Clearly, when Artemi Panarin’s name came out in Columbus as a trade option for the Blue Jac...
