How Successful Women Advocate For Themselves At Work — & How You Can, Too

Women rarely have just one job. In addition to our careers, there’s the nurturing we do at home, within ourselves, and in our relationships. And let’s face it, it doesn’t even end there. At work, we’re often tasked with the additional, invisible labor of fighting for respect, recognition, and fair compensation. That’s what makes self-advocacy such a critical skill for women. We’re not always lucky enough to have a benevolent boss or a workplace that inherently recognizes our worth and power. But...

Boeing requests FAA ground the 737 as the President pushes an emergency order

After consulting with the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board, and airlines, Boeing is throwing its support behind a decision to ground its 737 Max planes. “Boeing has determined — out of an abundance of caution and in order to reassure the flying public of the aircraft’s safety — to recommend to the FAA the temporary suspension of operations of the entire global fleet of 371 737 MAX aircraft,” the company said in a statement. The salty mist kisses her face as she gazed off into the distance, the posting aboard the USS Virginia hadn’t been her first choice, but she was glad she was here. Her bottom rested against the forward turret as her hands methodically unclasped a case by her feet. From it, a violin, bow, and resin were produced. Above, Captain Jameson watched with amazement. His ensign had begun this ritual the previous week, when they cast away and headed to sea on a reconnaissance detail. She hadn’t asked per...

Comment on my ultimate chicken noodle soup by Abby

I made this in a 6qt Instant Pot which was a bit of a fail bc I didn’t take note of the size pot I was meant to use (Hint: if you do the same, go ahead and halve the recipe). What I wound up doing is leaving out one onion but putting everything else in with 6 cups water, running high pressure for 45 min, taking out all the veg and as many chicken wings as necessary so I could put 6 more cups water in (totaling 12 cups or 3qts) and running for another 15 min. When that was done I strained it, put...

Comment on dobos torte by Abby

This cake is so delicious and reminds me vividly of growing up in Budapest and stopping into all the coffee and cake shops. I didn’t have any luck with the caramel recipe so after 2 tries that both crystallized I switched to a different recipe that was 1/3C water and 2/3C sugar and you don’t touch it till it’s boiling. It took forever (probably bc I was nervous and used a really low heat) but at least it worked. Also, because the caramel hardens so fast, I used an apple corer/slicer to cut out s...

Yesterday, on Valentine’s Day, Thom Zahler announced that he would be releasing more of his superhero romantic comedy Love and Capes, and I was thrilled. I’m a huge fan, so much so that it was one of the four titles I picked for my site header image. The story of Mark and Abby has progressed from revealing his secret identity through marriage plans, starting life together, and expecting a baby. It’s always been funny, heartwarming, and charming, as you can [...]

Seriously. What If we began again…?

I have said many times that books by Scott Sauls should be in the hands of every single Christian without exception. I concur with our friend Christine Caine when she says, “I love everything Scott Sauls writes.” Scott’s latest, Irresistible Faith: Becoming the Kind of Christian the World Can’t Resist is no exception. On a personal note, Scott has become a deeply trusted, unwaveringly faithful friend to my husband and I. When we have hard questions that are wrestling us down, when we need praye...

Comment on miniature soft pretzels by Abby

These are so delicious and easy! And since the minis make so many I had enough for 2 different get togethers out of one recipe. Now I need Deb to tell us what she dips these in? Spreads on them? I need ideas!

Delicious! I add to my Tehini: a little bit of olive oil, a little drop of something sweet (runny honey, agave, maple syrup, date syrup). It balances nicely with the salt, garlic, and lemon.
