Daccord Leads Arizona State to 20th Win of the Season

In the final home series of the 2018-19 season at Oceanside Ice Arena in Tempe, the Arizona State Sun Devils hosted the American International College (AIC) Yellow Jackets in Game No. 1 of the weekend back-to-back between the two teams on Friday night. Although they surrendered the first goal of the game less than two minutes into the opening period, the Sun Devils controlled the play the rest of the way, and, led by Ottawa Senators prospect Joey Daccord in goal, Arizona State neutralized the Ye...

A Thanksgiving surprise

Out of nowhere Aarush asks me yesterday "Acha, can you come to my school tomorrow?"Its not usual of him to make any demands, maybe I have infused my practicality gene into him that he doesn't make an effort to put forward any demand. Or it also could be the fact that most of him demands are postponed, delayed or even quashed by both of us.Although a little surprised, I try to understand the need of such an ask with a puzzled face "Sure, Do you want me to drop you or pick up from your school?""To...

Afraid Of ‘Repercussions,’ HUD Delayed Action On Crumbling Public Housing

CAIRO, Ill. — As public housing deteriorated in Illinois’ southernmost city, bureaucrats at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development delayed stepping in because they wanted to avoid “political repercussions” and negative attention, according to a scathing audit released today. HUD’s inspector general, the agency’s investigative arm, said HUD officials bickered over whether a series of internal reports dating back to 2010, citing widespread mismanagement and worsening conditions in ...

The Future of Arizona Wildcats Hockey

Four short years ago Arizona State University’s hockey team made the jump from the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) to the NCAA. Men’s hockey alone now has three teams at ASU (ACHA Division I & II, NCAA Division I). Despite having a rather unconventional arena that seats only 747 people on bleachers that sit on only two sides of the rink and being a school in one of the most criticized cities for housing a hockey team, they made it, and have, so far, succeeded. But down south, only ...

The State of College Hockey in Florida

It may come as a surprise, but the state of Florida has a robust college hockey scene developing under its sunshine. While some institutions founded hockey teams in the 1990s, it took until the mid-2000s for the sport to find stable footing throughout colleges. Florida now has eight public and private universities with men’s ice-hockey clubs competing in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 3 along with the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Eagles having a second team co...

The Senate's latest health care proposal: Once again, it's all about the tax cuts

The Graham-Cassidy proposal currently before the Senate looks different than the House ACHA and Senate BCRA bill in one important respect. It does not eliminate most of Obamacare's taxes. ACHA and BCRA were little more than a tax cut for wealthy donors disguised as a health care bill. By contrast, Graham-Cassidy appears, on its face, to keep taxes in place and to strike a blow for federalism. But looks can be deceiving.  Graham-Cassidy is also about about making it easier to cut taxes on the weal...

Tax Reform Is Hard (#TRIH)

With the looming deadline on both the debt ceiling and the tax reconciliation bill (not to be confused with the ACHA reconciliation instructions), taxes and, hopefully, tax reform are moving to the top of the legislative agenda. The rhetoric of tax reform is heating up. Yesterday Paul Ryan tweeted: Speaker... [Author: David Herzig]

4 Ways the Senate Health Care Bill Would Hurt Women

Senate Republicans revealed new legislation—a much-anticipated follow-up to the American Health Care Act passed by the House of Representatives last month—intended to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. The Senate’s version of the bill, called the Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017, keeps much of the framework of the ACHA, with a few changes.…

Healthcare: AHCA bill would leave 23 million more uninsured

Health care reform legislation passed earlier this month by the House of Representatives will leave 23 million more Americans uninsured than under the Affordable Care Act and reduce the deficit by $119 billion, according to a Congressional Budget Office report released Wednesday. The House passed the American Health Care Act (ACHA) May 4 in an effort to repeal and reform the ACA, commonly known as Obamacare, but held onto the legislation until the CBO score was released to be sure it met budget...

8 Habits That Make Millennials Stressed, Anxious And Unproductive

A version of this article was originally published on Forbes. Sign up for Caroline’s newsletter to get her writing sent straight to your inbox. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), millennials experience more stress and are less able to manage it than any other generation. More than half of us admit to having lain awake at night during the past month from stress. Not surprisingly, millennials are also more anxious than older Americans. The APA reports that 12 percent of mil...

Hamilton, Jefferson and Trumpcare's Impact on the Self-Employed

First off, the most important thing to know about American Health Care Act (AHCA or Trumpcare) is it will almost certainly be changed in major ways by the Senate.  So there's no reason to get too worked up about this bill for now. The second thing to know is the wild claims being made by both sides - such as healthcare costs will drop dramatically or it makes rape a pre-existing condition - are just that, wild claims that do not reflect what's actually in the bill. Our March article How ...

Trump's Healthcare Tweets Appear to Violate Anti-Propaganda Rules

What Time Is The Health Care Vote? When, How To Watch The House Decide On AHCA

House Republicans spent most of Thursday — and, really, most of this week — trying drum up enough support to pass their replacement of Obamacare, the American Health Care Act. However, as of Thursday afternoon, both the future of the bill and the time lawmakers would formally vote on it remained unclear. A Politico reporter tweeted there would not be a vote on the ACHA Thursday, citing an anonymous GOP source and noting that it was "still possible tomorrow."

How Trumpcare Will Impact Self-Employment

The quick summary is self-employed who are younger or have higher incomes will likely be better off under the Republican proposed American Health Care Act (AHCA, a.k.a. Trumpcare). Self-employed who are older or have lower incomes will likely be worse off. The law will likely not have a major impact on the total number of people who are self-employed, at least over the next 3-5 years.  The reason is most of the Obamacare provisions that are important to the self-employed - and those thinking of ...
