For a growing number of evangelical Christians, Trump is no longer the lesser of two evils

It has long been taken for granted that the majority of evangelical Christians in the United States will vote for Donald Trump. That may well be the case. But there are recent signs that fewer evangelicals will support Trump this time around than in 2016. The Royal Handmaidens of Naboo Represent a Fascinating Opportunity for a New ‘Star Wars’ TV Series

(Welcome to A Different Point of View, a column where we explore the supporting characters of the Star Wars universe and discuss why they deserve more time in the spotlight.) Star Wars is a vast galaxy that was created by George Lucas, but more has been added to it over the decades by countless storytellers. Like a Katamari ball made of overlapping lore and disparate Earth cultures and architecture. Oftentimes, that works out great, with storylines growing from single throwaway lines ...

Rent control laws nearly destroyed parts of New York City. They could do the same to California

In November, Californians will vote on Proposition 10, which would repeal the state law that limits cities from regulating rents on buildings occupied after February 1995. With rents skyrocketing across the state, capping rents may seem attractive, but experience shows rent control laws have serious downsides, including stifling investment in housing and building improvements, creating shortages and wasting time and money in litigation. The textbook case against rent control comes from New York ...

New Child Protection Nonprofit Strikes Back At Sex-Negative Approach of FOSTA-SESTA

qirtaiba writes: When the FOSTA-SESTA online sex trafficking bill passed last month, it sailed through Congress because there were no child protection organizations that stood against it, and because no member of Congress (with the brave exceptions of Ron Wyden and Rand Paul) wanted to face re-election having opposed a bill against sex trafficking, despite its manifest flaws. In the wake of the law's passage, its real targets -- not child sex traffickers, but adult sex workers and the internet p...
