Apple officially discontinues AirPower citing hardware limitations

Apple dropped a piece of shocker news regarding AirPower recently. AirPower was announced back in 2017 alongside iPhone X, but we did not hear back from the company about the product after that. Now, Apple has officially declared AirPower dead citing an inability to meet its own hardware standards. This comes as a shocker rather than a piece of news.  It is not usual for a company like Apple to recall or discontinue an announced product. Read on for more details. AirPower was Apple's solution...

Apple sells wireless charging AirPods, cancels charger days later

“Works with AirPower mat”. Apparently not. Looks like Apple doesn’t treat customers with the same “high standard” of care it apparently reserves for its hardware quality. 9 days after launching its $199 wireless charging AirPods headphones touting compatibility with the forthcoming Apple AirPower inductive charger mat, Apple has just scrapped AirPower entirely. It’s an uncharacteristically sloppy move for the “it just works” company. This time it didn’t. Apple clearly knew AirPower was borked be...

Apple has scrapped plans to release its AirPower wireless charging mat

Apple has canceled its AirPower charging mat because the product did not achieve the company's high standards. The news comes after previous reports indicated Apple had run into production issues with the product. It's a rare move for Apple, which has delayed launches in the past but doesn't typically cancel announced products altogether.  Apple has canceled plans to release its AirPower charging mat, the company told Business Insider in a statement on Friday. TechCrunch first reported the ne...

Apple sends out invites for March 25 ‘special event’

Apple sent out invites to reporters this afternoon for a March 25 special event at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino. Reports have suggested that the company will focus its keynote on the content side of its business. The invite offers some pretty heavy-handed hints that the video content service will be on full display at the invite, mainly a film reel countdown timer that eventually reveals the phrase “It’s show time.” Here's a gif of the animation pic.twitter.com/YD3QZLi9Kf — Matt...

Apple patent hints at AirPods wireless charging case and AirPower

The USA patent and Trademark Office has published a newly granted Apple patent related to an "inductively chargeable earbud case." While the AirPods and AirPowers are not named in the patent, the illustrations clearly show an AirPods-like wireless charging case on an AirPower-like charging mat.  Most inductive charging mats require precisely aligning a smartphone or other device with the coils inside the mat for efficient power transfer. However, Apple's patent describes a method that would...

In fact, Apple’s total silence on the matter led some to believe it may have been canceled altogether. Today, however, a new rumor has breathed life back into hopes for an AirP...

Apple may pop an updated iPad Mini in 2019

Apple will be plopping out new hardware at their second fall event, come the end of the month. Those that spend their days puzzling out what trillion dollar companies will aspire to sell us next think that there's a good chance that we'll see a refresh of the iPad Pro (possibly with a USB-C port baked into them) and refreshed MacBooks. Good stuff, all around, especially if they can figure out how to fix the hot mess that Apple currently has the nerve to call a keyboard. But what's down the road...

Apple seems to have forgotten about its AirPower wireless charger

Yesterday’s Apple keynote was surprising in that it only featured new iPhones and a refreshed Watch, and no accessories for these products. Most folks keeping tabs on the brand were expecting updated AirPods, and at least some mention of the AirPower wireless charging mat that was previewed last year. That was an important part of Apple’s 2017 presentation: the AirPower was about supporting a key differentiating feature of the company’s mobile devices together: no other brand could claim to offe...
