Where to volunteer in NYC

In the words of Chidi Anagonye from The Good Place — though actually posed by philosopher T.M. Scanlon — what do we owe to each other? We’re all here together, so we should probably work together to make things better. Volunteering can help us do exactly that, and it does a wealth of good for everyone, including those being helped, the world around us, and ourselves. New York City has its fair share of problems, but it also has a number of places willing to address them. Finding somewhere to ...

Why This Brand's Next Move Begins With LGBTQ Youth

For reasons unknown to even fashion insiders, it's difficult to understand just why one-for-one brands remain an anomaly in the industry. Despite the need for affordable clothing in struggling countries around the world (and the overproduction of textiles whose waste is harmful to the environment), we still value quantity over philanthropy. We've yet to shake our hankering for the latest designer It bag instead of exploring the market to see if we can put our money somewhere that extends its ex...

The Daily Show correspondent Jessica Williams paid a visit to outrageously homophobic pastor James David Manning of Atlah Worldwide Church, and his views are as utterly insane as ever. Manning doubles down on his infamous “semen lattes” comment, Williams asks the tough questions, and there’s even a singing break. Harlem No Hate: Reasons Why Ali Forney Center Is Seeking to Acquire Site of ATLAH Hate Church

A week and a half ago something remarkable happened. It was announced that the ATLAH church, home of Rev. James David Manning, one of the nation's most strident anti-LGBT bigots, had been foreclosed and was being put up for auction on February 24th. The members of the local community, who have protested against Manning and his sign outside the church where he promoted hatred against LGBT people, and called for violence against us, immediately approached me. They wanted the Ali Forney Center to a...
