Aloha Friday Photo: Quite possibly the “most Kauai” photo ever

Mahalo to Carol Randles for sharing this funny Kauai photo with us for Aloha Friday Photos! If you’ve ever been to Kauai, you know there are chickens just about everywhere. Each time we visit, it seems that there are more and more. There are some theories why Kauai has so many chickens. Apparently this rooster thinks he owns the place … or at least this beach chair. He looks like he might have a lot to crow about. Happy Aloha Friday! The post Aloha Friday Photo: Quite possibly the “most Kauai” ...

Aloha Friday Photo: Finding Hanalei

Mahalo to Adie Klein from Australia for sharing this lovely shot of Hanalei Bay with us for Aloha Friday Photos. Here’s what Adie says about this discovering this Kauai location: “First time in Hawaii from Australia, my family and I found Hanalei Bay in Kauai a amazing place to swim, surf, or just to absorb the beautiful natural surroundings.” We agree with Adie. Aloha Friday Photo: Rugged Hana Coastline

Mahalo to Melanie from Connecticut for sharing this great shot for Aloha Friday Photos. This photo was taken at a spot off the road to Hana. If you look at the cliff in the foreground, you can see a gap in the trees. That’s where the Hana Highway carves its path into the cliffside. Though Melanie didn’t mention the exact location where she took this photo, we suspect it is that it was taken off Keanae Road which leads to the end of the stunning Keanae Peninsula. Happy Aloha Friday! The post Alo...

Aloha Friday Photo: Honolua Bay, Maui

Mahalo to Rachel Barsha for sharing this lovely photo with us for Aloha Friday Photos. Rachel’s photo shows Honolua Bay on the northwest side of Maui. As you can see it is tremendously beautiful. Rachel took this photo on an August day in 2017. As this bay is somewhat north-facing the ocean conditions change seasonally. It late spring, summer and early autumn, it tends to be smooth. When the water is calm it’s fantastic for snorkeling. (See our Honolua snorkeling experience.) Though Honolua Bay...

Aloha Friday Photo: Pun in the sun :-)

Mahalo to Nikki Bushell for this super fun Aloha Friday Photo! Nikki’s shot inspired us to have some “pun in the sun” with some silly puns. Here’s what we’ve got: Don’t throw shade at this pineapple. He’s socially distancing on the beach. Wave hello to my little prickly friend. What other puns would you add? Happy Aloha Friday! Aloha Friday Photo: Cactus in Hawaii

Mahalo to Jan Elle for sharing this colorful photo with us for Aloha Friday Photos. It’s a little bit unusual to see cacti in Hawaii as they are not native to these islands. The cacti in Jan’s photo appear to be thriving in this dry microclimate. We believe Jan took this photo at Koko Crater Botanical Garden on Oahu. This garden is literally located in a volcanic crater. How neat is that?! At the present time, Koko Crater Botanical Garden is free to visit. Happy Aloha Friday! The post Aloha Fri...

Aloha Friday Photo: L O V E

Mahalo to Nikki Bushell for this fun Aloha Friday Photo. It’s the perfect shot to lead us into Valentine’s weekend. We believe this shot was taken at Wai’anapanapa State Park on Maui. I’ve always thought that this lava rock looked like bunny ears, but a V works just as well in the middle of the word love. Happy Aloha Friday and hau’oli la aloha! Aloha Friday Photo: Spouting Horn on Kauai

Mahalo to Gayle Merry for sharing this neat action shot of Spouting Horn  for Aloha Friday Photos. Spouting Horn is a great spot to include in your Kauai sightseeing plans. Aloha Friday Photo: Papakolea, Green Sand Beach

Mahalo to Chris Hill for sharing this difficult-to-reach shot with us for Aloha Friday Photos. Papakolea, the green sand beach on the Big Island of Hawaii, is one of only four green sand beaches in the world. Along with being unique, it’s quite remote, too. In addition to the relatively long drive to get to the south side of the island, to reach Papakolea, a fairly long, dusty and hot hike is required. Happy Aloha Friday! Aloha Friday Photo: Haleakala, Maui

Mahalo to Tracey Clinton for sharing this Maui shot with us for Aloha Friday Photos. Tracey’s shot is of the dormant volcano Haleakala, which is a popular place to watch sunrise. Standing at just over 10,000 feet above sea level, Haleakala is Maui’s tallest peak and the third highest peak in the state of Hawaii. Not only is Haleakala tall, its width makes up the vast majority of land on the island. Take a look at the following map from the USGS that notes Haleakala. The island of Maui is mainly...

Mahalo to the very talented Hawaii (Big) Island photographer Ethan Tweedie for allowing us to share this shot for Aloha Friday Photos. Ethan took this photo at Parker School in “downtown” Waimea.
