12 Movies To Watch If You Loved Halloween Kills

"Halloween Kills" is sensational. As our own Marshall Shaffer remarked in his review, the movie "manages to put a playful but petrifying spin on mythology without resorting to cheap self-referentiality," and he is absolutely right. "Halloween Kills" is stacked to the rafters with gory kills, franchise callbacks, and familiar faces, including Nancy Stephens and Kyle Richards as older versions of the same characters they played in John Carpenter's original. Available to watch now both in theaters ...

Fangs – review

Director: James Ian Mair Release date: 2021 Contains spoilers This was a low budget vampire flick that I found free to view on YouTube. There was an aspect that reminded me of the film the Return of Dracula - although the device used worked in the 1958 film and became a plot hole in this. It is also a monster mash with a Mummy (Benjamin Mair) involved. It starts with a voice-over telling us about vampires and how really real they are. It also suggests that the most powerful vampires can daywalk...

Zen Gardening?

The little fish pool and garden below our deck has become so overgrown that John has taken a chainsaw to the so-called dwarf (over 15 feet, most of them) evergreens and it all looks pretty sad.  In time it will look better. Patience, Grasshopper. We will plant more hostas and liriope--nice and low-growing. The azaleas should make a comeback, with room to breathe now. And nothing daunts forsythia. Thee might even be a spot for some blue salvia.  Coincidently, I recently disco...

Comment on gnocchi with a grater by Amanda

Deb. DEB. I have attempted gnocchi several times over the years. Each time was a messy, time-consuming, sticky, disappointing disaster. I tried your recipe this week with the grater and IT WORKED. Even when I subbed gluten-free flower. I pan-fried those little gnocchi babies and served them over the top of a spicy tomato sauce. I feel vindicated.

Comment on hummingbird cake by Amanda

In reply to poppyxcheska. Following up for anyone else who is thinking about using substitutions for the frosting — I am pretty confident runny frosting is a result of using reduced-fat cream cheese. I used one block of regular cream cheese and one block of neufchatel/reduced-fat cream cheese, which is what I had on hand. Not a gamble I usually make with a cake for company, but was feeling bold (whoops!). I didn’t even add the lemon juice or milk — just the vanilla — because I worried it would ...
