My Best Travel Moments of 2018

I love writing my Best Travel Moments of the Year posts. And 2018 was a great travel year. For the first time, I feel like I found a very good balance between enjoying my travels and being present in New York. I took four “long” trips, and they were each about two weeks long — but that really worked for me. Balance has been one of the toughest things for me to find. I know a lot of my blogger friends struggle with it as well — traveling enough to be interesting vs. not spending too much money; ...

The 10 best food halls in the US

The number of food halls in the US is increasing at a rapid clip. There were just 105 in 2016, and that number is expected to double by 2019. They’re not just in the metropolitan areas where you’d expect food halls to flourish, either. Delaware will soon get its first food hall, as will Boise, Idaho. Three food halls are slated to open by 2020 in Kansas City alone. Food halls are spreading like malls in the ‘80s, but unlike the food courts serving up Panda Express, they emphasize local busine...

The Cult-Brand Ice Creams You Can Order Right To Your Door

Ice cream is one of those foods that elicits a fanatical following. Sure, you can buy the frozen dessert at just about every grocery store or corner market, but that doesn't stop people from going great lengths to get their favorite variety. The artisanal food revolution of the past few decades has kicked regional, small-batch ice cream into overdrive. Now, just about every city (and town) has a spot with long lines and one-of-a-kind flavors. That usually means — thanks to ice cream's status of...

AK Monthly Recap: May 2017

This month I returned to my roots — I took a nice juicy solo trip to some countries I hadn’t visited before. Man, that always feels great. I took long walks. I photographed everything in sight. I drank lots of coffees in lots of cool cafes. Absolute bliss. Since settling down in New York last year, I’ve been surprised at how much I’ve struggled with my identity. When you earn your salary based on your personality and then you make a major shift in lifestyle, on top of going from a moderate cost...
