This bohemian, Woodstock-inspired Maui wedding was the last ceremony peformed by the late Ram Dass

Ram Dass said, I’m not interested in being a ‘lover.’ I’m interested in only being love. The sweet photos Wendy Laurel sent our way recap the last wedding he performed before his death in December 2019, between Ananda, founder of Google’s Empathy Lab and one of his closest caretakers, Govinda. Having met at one of Dass’ Maui retreats, it was only fitting to host the wedding “love fest” at his home in Haiku, drawing on his teachings in an intimate, lush backyard setting. Jill of La Fleur Wedd...

Comment on homemade dulce de leche by Ananda

I made this exactly, but with one adjustment. I read the comments that people were getting grainy caramel. So what i did was after the caramel was done, i added half the amount in water, then boiled it again for 5 minutes. The result is a beautiful creamy dulce de leche… I am enjoying it on a spoon!!

How to Fight Racism Through Inner Work

Mindfulness meditation may hold the key to grappling with interpersonal racism, says Rhonda Magee, because it helps people tolerate the discomfort that comes with deeper discussions about race. And it can help cultivate a sense of belonging and community for those who experience and fight racism in our everyday lives. For more than 20 years, Magee has worked to address issues of race, racism, and identity-based conflict while teaching law at the University of San Francisco. Over the years teach...

"Their message is simple — destructive but simple: Madison schools have a racial achievement gap because Bernie Sanders-loving Madison hates black children."

"[School Board candidates Ali] Muldrow & [Ananda] Mirilli peddled their bilious message during a candidate forum Saturday (03-10-19) at Badger Rock middle school. The event was sponsored by the Freedom Inc. Youth Squad — the same outfit coordinating disruption at the Madison Board of Education these last two years. (On October 29 and February 25.) Their top of the page goal is getting rid of Cops in Schools; their bottom line replaces classroom discipline with race shaming."Writes David Blaska, ...

Open Bionics closes $5.9M Series A for its affordable and cool bionic limbs

The world wowed a few years ago when a very clever startup from Bristol, UK, came up with 3D printed bionic limbs for amputees. Uniquely, the limbs were lightweight, cheap to make and could even be made into Iron Man-style arms to enthuse amputee children. They went on to sign a deal with the huge UK National Health Service to bring new technologies to amputees, announced at a Techcrunch Crunch Disrupt. Today Open Bionics has successfully raised $5.9 million from investors including F1’s William...

Divided America is nothing new

Photos: Nan Palmero and Gage Skidmore April 2001 , I was on a solo road trip researching Nevada light, sage basins, indigo mountains and small town casinos for my novel Going Through Ghosts. I had stopped in a convenience store for coffee and yakked with the young clerk. She had told me there was a warm spring in a nearby cottonwood grove. “Don’t tell anybody where it is,” she said. “It’s for locals only. We take care of it.” Nine years later to the month, I slid back into that silken water. ...

Almost perfect: Kairali Ayurvedic Health Resort

The villas at Kairali are a cross between a Hobbit house and an English cottage What you need to know about Ayurveda and visiting an Ayurvedic health resort in Kerala, India THE AYURVEDA MASSAGE THERAPIST stripped off my sarong, and tied a wispy, diaper-like cloth around my bottom. After helping me onto a massive teak table, she and another strong-armed, small-boned woman began pouring hot oil all over me. Together, in unison, they proceeded to massage me in long rhythmic strokes. All of me. ...
