‘We Need Waaaaay More Of This’: FedEx Worker Shares ‘Thoughtful’ Care Package For Delivery Drivers

GLENDALE, Ariz. (CBS Local) — FedEx workers are the usually ones leaving packages on our porches, so it came as a bit of a surprise when a driver found a box left for couriers on a front porch in Glendale, Arizona. The cardboard package left for UPS, FedEx, USPS, and Amazon delivery drivers was filled with water bottles, Gatorade, cans of soup and rolls of toilet paper. The demand for delivery services has increased drastically as the coronavirus pandemic keeps many Americans homebound. Amazon s...

Green travel guide to New Brunswick

S ure, this is a “green” travel guide — and we’ll keep it green — but it’s New Brunswick’s actual colors we’ll talk most about: the warm red tones of the south coast’s rocky sea caves that reveal themselves only at low tide. The fierce blue-grey of the waters in the Bay of Fundy, a feeding ground for a dozen species of whale. The soft golds of the sands on the Acadian Coast, which has the warmest saltwater beaches north of Virginia, and of the cardboard tray of toasty fried clams you got from ...

Uh-oh: Chris Sale to get a third opinion on his elbow

Yesterday we learned that Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale was sent for an MRI on his elbow and those results were, in turn, to be sent on to Dr. James Andrews. The same Dr. James Andrews whose name, when mentioned, is almost always followed by “Tommy John surgery” thereafter. This morning we learned that Dr. Andrews has seen the scans but that the Red Sox are now going to forward them on to a Dr. Neal Elattrache for another opinion.

FOSTA Constitutional Challenge Revived–Woodhull Freedom Foundation v. US

The DC Circuit revived the EFF-led constitutional challenge to FOSTA, holding that at least two of the plaintiffs have standing. This raises the specter that key parts of FOSTA might still be struck down as unconstitutional. Among other things, FOSTA created a new crime to “facilitate” or “promote” prostitution. The key question is what “facilitate” and “promote” means in this context. The majority says those verbs have many and wide-ranging meanings, and the verbs aren’t contextualized by othe...

US drinking water is a "toxic soup" of "forever chemicals"

Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are linked to cancer and liver damage, were used in a number of products, including Teflon and Scotchgard. Opinion analysis: A very narrow decision to start the term

On Tuesday, December 10, the Supreme Court issued its ruling in Rotkiske v. Klemm, a messy but ultimately small case arising from the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The curious strategic choices by Rotkiske’s lawyers throughout this case all but foretold his loss before the Supreme Court. Given its unique posture, it is doubtful that the case will have any significant impact on FDCPA litigation. Justice Thomas with opinion in Rotkiske v. Klemm This case began in the U.S. District Court...

As in the moment when Kodak decided it wouldn’t pursue digital camera technology, fearing the impacts on their filmstock business. The photo industry went digital, ...

Hibernation Works for Bears. Could It Work for Us, Too?

There are three major seasons in the life of a bear: the active season, beginning in May; a period of intense eating, in late September, and hibernation, from January into spring.Physiologically, the hibernation period is the strangest, and the most compelling, to researchers. When a bear hibernates, its metabolic rate and heart rate drop significantly. It does not defecate or urinate. The amount of nitrogen in its blood rises sharply, without damaging the kidneys or liver. The animal becomes re...
