Driving the spectacular $106,000 Porsche 718 Spyder rearranged my consciousness

I drove the glorious 2020 Porsche 718 Spyder, a high-performance convertible two-seater that goes for a well-optioned $105,780. The Spyder has a new 414-horsepower flat-six engine that's devoid of turbochargers and, in my car, mated to a crisp six-speed manual transmission. The Spyder traces it lineage to the open-air racers of the 1950s. It isn't a practical car, but it is the best Porsche money can buy — and, for me, a ticket to happiness. The once humble pickup has gone full-on luxury — here are my favorite swanky features (F, GM, FCAU)

Years ago, full-size pickup trucks were intended for rugged use on farms, ranches, and job sites.  But as they've exploded in popularity and posted epic sales, they've become as luxurious as some some upscale cars. I've tested every full-size pickup on the market, from Ford, Chevy, GMC, RAM, Toyota, and Nissan. Here's a rundown of all my favorite luxury features, from each truck. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. Let me tell you about my first pickup truck. It was a 1980s-vi...

Henrik Fisker is back — and with a $2.9-billion company, he might have the perfect business plan for the post-coronavirus world

Henrik Fisker is an auto-industry veteran whose latest venture, Fisker Inc., just merged with a private-equity firm and is valued at almost $3 billion. Fisker raised $1 billion in the deal. Fisker's first vehicle, the Ocean, is slated to go to production in 2022, but Fisker intends to outsource its manufacturing. The company's ultimate goal is to reinvent mobility for a new generation of customers. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. It's easy, at times, to underestimate Henri...

Halfway through 2020, I've driven dozens of cars, trucks, and SUVs. See all the features I've found most annoying.

I test and review dozens of cars, trucks, and SUVs every year. Most are wonderful. But there are some things that annoy me. At the halfway point of 2020, I decided to round up all the features that disappointed me so far. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. At the halfway point of every year, I like to pause for a moment and reflect on all the vehicles I've driven, savor the great experiences and roadway thrills and ... amass a list of complaints! Actually, I usually do this a...

Custom Bikes Of The Week: 5 July, 2020

Voxan is back with an electric land speed bike designed to hit 330 km/h. Plus a wild Buell M2 Cyclone from France, and details of a collaboration between two storied British marques: Aston Martin and Brough Superior. Buell M2 by Taverne Motorcycles It’s impressive enough that this fierce cafe racer is based on the clunky Buell M2 Cyclone. But it’s even cooler that the guys who built it started with just a motor. Florian and Christophe at Taverne Motorcycles in France started with just the ...

We're at the halfway point of 2020, now see all the coolest car interiors I've tested so far this year — from Ferraris to Lamborghinis to Porsches and more

Since the beginning of 2020, I've driven a wide range of vehicles, from luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz and supercar-makers like Ferrari and Lamborghini. But I've also driven some great mass-market cars and SUVs. This has given me the chance to sample a bunch of interiors. Halfway through the year, here's a rundown of my favorites, with some of the coolest features from each. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. The Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster exhibits so much power and style that its $210,000 price tag is actually a bargain

I tested a 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster, a limited-run drop-top that topped out at $210,290 after many thousands in extras. The Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster belongs to a select club of two-seat, front-engine cars that combine luxury with track-ready performance cred. The price tag might seem stratospheric, but Mercedes-AMG has so thoroughly crammed this machine with staggering power and premium appointments that it represents a bargain. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. In ...

Watch AMB 001 by Aston Martin and Brough Superior on the Track

It Looks Good Out There Aston Martin isn’t a company that you usually associate with motorcycles, but Aston and Brough Superior teamed up a while back to build the AMB 001, a limited-production track-only motorcycle. The bike looked fantastic when revealed, and now we’re getting our first look at it testing at a racetrack. The AMB 001 will act as a halo bike for Brough Superior and there’s a chance that the companies could work together in the future. The AMB 001 is no regular motorcycle. The b...

The $186,000 Aston Martin Vantage is the most exciting car I've driven in 2020. Here's how this amazing machine takes on Porsche, Mercedes, and even Ferrari.

I tested a $186,027 Aston Martin Vantage coupé — the impressive entry point to the British brand. My 2020 Vantage had a 503-horsepower V8 engine, borrowed from Mercedes-AMG. The Vantage was revamped for 2019; the nameplate has been around since the early 2000s and has gone through one major design update. The Vantage is aimed squarely at taking on Porsche, but it can hang with Ferrari. The V8-powered Vantage is incredible — a magnificent front-engined grand tourer with style, heritage, spirit,...

I've driven hundreds of cars, trucks, and SUVs in the past 5 years. These are the most exciting designs.

I've driven hundreds of cars, trucks, and SUVs since 2014.  When I look back over the fleet, some real beauties jump out. But so do some rides that might be considered works of art. My list is heavy on names like Ferrari, Jaguar, and Aston Martin — and there's no shortage of sports cars and supercars in the rundown. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. I like a beautiful car. Luckily, I get to drive a lot of real beauts. Ferraris. Maseratis. Jaguars. Aston Martins.  The good st...

The $234,000 Aston Martin DB11 V8 has so much soul that I almost forget how much fun it is to drive

I tested a $234,086 Aston Martin DB11 V8 — a gorgeous machine with a potent, 503-horsepower engine under the hood. The DB11 was introduced in 2016 and hasn't been substantially upgraded for 2020. It doesn't matter, because the car remains gorgeous. The Mercedes-AMG-sourced twin-turbo V8 is a dandy alternative to the DB11's V12. There are few proper grand-tourers around, but the DB11 is an exemplar of the automotive form. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. Yeah, yeah ... Ast...
