Bakelalan Bird Watching Trip Report

One of the few places that has been getting some bird watching attention is no other than the highland village of Bakelalan in Sarawak, Borneo. For the serious bird watchers, this is my Bakelalan bird watching trip report, done in November 2018.  First of all, Bakelalan or Ba'Kelalan is a Lun Bawang tribe village, located in the northeast highlands of Sarawak, Malaysia. It is also in the district of Lawas, which can be easily accessed from Kota Kinabalu in Sabah or Miri in Sarawak. Ge...

"Even Hillary Clinton, as secretary of state, never made an impassioned Beijing-style speech about women in Saudi Arabia being obliterated under a black tarp."

"During the first gulf war, fought in part to protect the Saudis from an encroaching Saddam, a group of Saudi women — artists and academics — got excited by the presence of American female soldiers and went for a joy ride. The clerics branded the drivers 'whores' and 'harlots.' They received death threats and lost their jobs. Driving by women, banned by custom, was made illegal. America was mute. Our government did not even fight for the right of its women soldiers protecting Saudi Arabia to ref...

A big ball of joy conquers Asia

In a gym that looked ready to host an EDM gig, a 26 year old who looked like he was pushing 40 brought a team you probably haven’t heard of to unprecedented glory. Emmet Ryan looks back on the fascinating spectacle that was the FIBA Asia Champions Cup final as Petrochimi from Iran took their first ever title Stadium 29 in Nonthaburi looked more suited to hosting a gig, it was like a boutique arena, but the Thai city is home to Mono Vampire which is sponsored by Mono29 which owns the arena and t...

Saudi Arabia offers monthly handout to soften public over tax hike

Saudi Arabia has ordered new monthly payments to civil servants and soldiers in an effort to soften the impact of price hikes and new taxes introduced under the kingdom’s economic reform plans.  The Saudi monarchy - driven by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman - this week doubled petrol prices and introduced a VAT tax to try to take on a 195 billion riyal (£38 billion) budget deficit caused by years of low oil prices. But wary of public anger over the price rises, the government announced Saturday...

Islamic State is the real aggressor in Syria | Letters

Owen Jones (Americans can spot meddling, 5 January) refers to Russian interference in Syria to support the dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad against his own people. In fact, Vladimir Putin is supporting Syria against the brutal invasion of Islamic State, which has been armed and financed, by proxy, through the US client states Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey in order to destabilise Syria (as related by US journalist Seymour Hersh, among others). Islamists have been used repeatedly by western and re...

Seeking a Context for "Hillarygate"

In a season of disturbingly ill-informed political dialogue, no topic has left the public with a more distorted understanding of the facts than the one which has taken center stage in the final days of the campaign: the handling of sensitive information by Secretary Clinton during her tenure as Secretary of State. There are Four basic questions that need to be addressed to place Secretary Clinton's mistakes in context and determine how to weigh those mistakes in the larger decision of who to sup...

29 Pages Revealed: Corruption, Crime and Cover-up Of 9/11

First and foremost, here is what you need to know when you listen to any member of our government state that the newly released 29 pages are no smoking gun -- THEY ARE LYING. Much like a heroin addict who will lie, cheat, and steal to feed their vice, certain members of our government will lie, cheat, and steal to continue their dysfunctional and deadly relationship with the KSA ...
