400,000 people are infected each year with coronaviruses carried by bats, an early study suggests. Researchers say the data could help prevent future pandemics.

A team of researchers set up a net to catch bats at the Khao Chong Pran Cave on September 12, 2020 in Ratchaburi, Thailand during a mission to understand the coronavirus's origins. Lauren DeCicca/Getty Coronaviruses from bats could infect 407,422 people each year, a study said. The findings could help target areas for surveillance and stop human virus outbreaks, they said. About 478 million people live in regions where the bats are, the researchers said. See more stories on Insider...

QOTD: What’s Your BAT Poison?

I wrote earlier this week about how BAT has broken me. In the post, I mentioned how I browse for Fox-body Mustangs. I do this because my dad owned one when I was young and I owned one for a few years between high school and early college. I suspect many of us have one, […] The post QOTD: What’s Your BAT Poison? appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

The Insanity of BAT Finally Broke Me

Like most automotive journalists — and car enthusiasts in general — I have three ways of goofing off online that involve the cars. One is reading sites like this one. Two is building and pricing cars from mild to wild — from affordable to only if I win the lotto — on manufacturer’s consumer configurators. The Murky Connection Between the Coronavirus and Climate Change

Climate change is basically messing up everything in our lives. It’s tempting to find a way to pin the coronavirus pandemic on it, and a new study released today does just that, claiming that climate change “may have driven the emergence” of coronavirus. But it may be more complicated than it seems at first blush.Read more...

Hornady Ballistics Calculator

Shooting Illustrated. The new Hornady 4DOF ballistics calculator is so precise because it combines what Hornady calls the Four Degrees of Freedom. In other words, it takes into account windage, elevation, range and angle of attack to generate a drag coefficient. Typically, my ammo column focuses on the technical aspects of ammunition; it’s not a place to tell stories. For this installment, I’m going depart from that because about the only thing better than a good story is a sloppy wet kiss from...

These new “travel sized” V Mount batteries offer more power with less weight and bulk

V-Mount batteries are fantastic. When you need a lot of power to last all day, or supply multiple devices, there aren’t many good alternatives. But, they get really heavy, especially if you have multiples. They’re also relatively large. British broadcast equipment manufacturer, Hawk Woods has come up with a solution. Mini V-Lok batteries. ICOs and VCs

The Brave browser team concluded an ICO for their Basic Attention Token yesterday in about thirty seconds. This led to this tweet: The Basic Attention Token (BAT) ICO just raised 30 million dollars in 24 seconds. VC’s didn’t even have time to put on a sweater vest. — briantobal (@briantobal) May 31, 2017 Of course folks will see ICOs as the end of the hated VC era of startup funding. And there is some truth to that. But I see it a bit differently: Brave was VC funded prior to doing their IC...

Does Your Monitor Do THIS And Survive?

SmallHD just released a video that blew my socks off – you’ve never seen such durability in a large monitor  I mean, who’d do this to their gear? Ok, stuff happens on set right? I’m impressed by the back and the sides holding up to a baseball bat and a large truck driving over it – oh an bullets being fired at the back. But the front holding up to the torture they put it thru is astounding… just look how it flexes! Do not try this at home! Looking forward to seeing these at NAB! Don’t forget to ...
