Goldman Sachs’ new board member diversity rule misses the mark

Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon recently said the investment bank won’t take companies public that don’t have at least one board member from an underrepresented group. The main focus will be on female board members, he told CNBC, because companies that have gone public in the last four years with at least one woman on their board of directors performed “significantly better” than those without. The new rule is set to go into effect in the U.S. and Europe on July 1. While the move is significant,...

HBO has officially axed Confederate, the controversial alt-history slavery drama from Game of Thrones co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. But the series, which was met with near-universal derision when it was announced three years ago, seemed like it was dead on arrival to begin with. No updates had been given since Benioff and Weiss quietly pulled back from the series amid the intense backlash following its announcement in 2017. Here's what experts think is ahead for Salesforce in 2020: More acquisitions and the possibility of a massive leadership upheaval (CRM)

Salesforce had a big year in 2019, including completing its biggest acquisition ever in June, after buying Tableau for $15.7 billion and inking a cloud deal with its sometimes-rival Microsoft.  We asked analysts what's ahead in 2020, and they say Salesforce will have to show how well it can integrate Tableau and how it can use these technologies to deliver on "Customer 360."  Some also say we could see Salesforce make more big acquisitions to hit its ambitious growth targets. They also believe...

Now that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has brought the Skywalker saga to an end, the future of Star Wars is up in the air. The story of why Marc Benioff gifted the domain to Steve Jobs

In Marc Benioff’s book, Trailblazer, he tells the tale of how Steve Jobs planted the seeds of the idea that would become the first enterprise app store, and how Benioff eventually paid Jobs back with the gift of the domain. While Salesforce did truly help blaze a trail when it launched as an enterprise cloud service in 1999, it took that a step further in 2006 when it became the first SaaS company to distribute related services in an online store. In an interview last year aro...

In a year of epic finales, 'Star Wars' and 'Game of Thrones' stumbled while 'Avengers: Endgame' soared

"Avengers: Endgame," "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," and "Game of Thrones" season eight all delivered finales (of sorts) for their respective franchises this year. "Endgame" is the least divisive of these finales because the MCU had a clear ending in mind for this era of the franchise and the next few years are already mapped out. The "Star Wars" franchise has suffered from production woes and a lack of a long-term plan, while "Game of Thrones" outpaced its source material. These weren't u...
