Cohen Will Spend Three Years In Prison Described As ‘Castle Behind Bars’

President Trump’s former lawyer will report to prison in just a few short days — May 6 — and serve his three-year sentence alongside some high profile residents in a prison just outside New York City that’s been dubbed the “castle behind bars,” The Daily Beast was first to report.  Otisville prison was described as a “castle behind bars” by the New York Post and listed as one of the “cushiest” prisons by Forbes Magazine, as the Daily Beast pointed out. The President’s former fixer will find h...

Hulu and Netflix may face subpoena over Fyre Festival documentaries

Hulu LLC and Netflix Inc. may face subpoenas over their production of documentaries about the festival. Gregory Messer, the Chapter 7 trustee for the Fyre Festival estate, sought the subpoenas in a filing Tuesday in bankruptcy court. He asked the judge to require Hulu and Netflix to show whether they paid for footage that should have been deemed an asset of the company. “In order to create the documentaries, both Hulu and Netflix used unique behind-the-scenes footage of the festival,” Messer s...

Dreaming Big and Why Women Are So Bad At It

I know it’s a grand assumption to say that all women think and act this way but based on multiple conversations I have every year, it’s worth it to take a moment to talk about this. Similar to how topics like Why Your Background Matters, where its more of a systematic problem rather than superficial perspectives, the reason why women don’t dream big runs deeper.Although we believe ourselves to be strong women — if not downright feminists acutely aware of the effects of society on our gender —I’...

The minimalist, titanium Apple Card is perfectly positioned as a status symbol geared toward millennials (AAPL)

Apple announced this week it was launching a credit card that works with its virtual payment service, Apple Pay. The Apple Card is made of titanium and eliminates much of the information found on a typical card: no printed number, expiration date, or security code. The sleek design of the card follows in the footsteps of other aesthetically pleasing cards geared toward millennials, including the Chase Sapphire card, the Venmo card, and even the Magnises card from Billy McFarland of Fyre Festiv...

He Created *NSYNC & Backstreet Boys — He Was Also The Ultimate Con Artist

There’s a moment in the Lance Bass–produced documentary about boy-band puppeteer and notorious conman Lou Pearlman that’s more heartbreaking than any one of the forlorn love songs *NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys (Pearlman’s biggest conquests) ever recorded. It’s the scene in The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story when the five members of *NSYNC recount the time when, three years into their stadium-touring, million-of-records-sold, screaming-teen-inducing careers, they are finally presented with...

Apple's new credit card gets compared to Billy McFarland's credit card scam

Someone didn't watch the Fyre Festival documentaries. Apple announced its groundbreaking new pay feature during its event on Monday: A titanium credit card with no card number, no signature, no CVV, and no expiration date. All of the vital information would be stored in the Wallet app, so it's less of a credit card and more of a physical way to pay through the app. As wonderful as it seems, Twitter users couldn't help but compare it to Magnises, the credit card/social club scam that ...

Here's a look inside credit card startup Brex's new member-only San Francisco lounge

Credit card startup Brex has opened a members-only lounge in San Francisco's South Park district to give cardholders a place to gather — whether that be to work, hold meetings, or socialize.  Dubbed the "Oval Room," the space feels like a homier version of a WeWork, with sectional couches instead of communal work tables. It's also far smaller than a typical co-working space, as it's located above of what used to be a neighborhood cafe.  "It's not about exclusivity," Brex co-founder Henrique Du...

Movie reviews. Almost.

I am on a sad-movie-watching binge. It started a few weeks ago. Wait. No. It probably started when I was in third grade and there was no grownup home until 8pm, so after school I went to the movie theater every day for a week to watch Wilbur lose Charlotte and learn to fend for himself. I think people who have sadness in their life use movies to work out their sadness by seeing it in other people. You know that truism about how we see other people so much more clearly than we see ourselves? I...

Andy King, Subject of the Most Infamous Scene in ‘Fyre’, Begged Filmmakers to Cut It

Of the two recently released Fyre Festival documentaries, only one featured a scene where someone confessed that they’d be willing to perform fellatio in order to help the soon-to-be-doomed fest succeed. That would be Netflix’s Fyre, in which event producer Andy King admits that Fyre Festival “mastermind” Billy McFarland asked him to perform oral sex on some guy in order to secure a large quantity of Evian water for the festival. The moment quickly went viral after Fyre premiered, and turned Ki...

After the Fyre Failure, What is the Role for Brand Influencers?

Brand influencers are a popular marketing tool because of their niche focus on a specific digital area. They include models, sports heroes, foodies, experts and all kinds of other bloggers. Companies use people (like me) to effectively increase their brand awareness because of our experience and online followings. After being heavily promoted by brand influencers on Instagram, the Fyre Festival failed spectacularly in spring of 2017. In addition, after watching the Netflix documentary, “Fyre: Th...

This Nail Brand Is Donating Money to the Ripped-Off Fyre Fest Bahamian Workers

In 2017, "business man" Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule teamed up to create what was supposed to be a luxurious Bahamian music festival called Fyre Festival, that ended up being a severe failure with tents and cold cheese sandwiches. Original Content podcast: Fyre Festival docs shine light on a social media-fueled disaster

Netflix and Hulu have each released their own documentaries about the infamous Fyre Festival, and the hard-working hosts of the Original Content podcast have watched both of them. We’re joined this week by Brian Heater, and the three of us are unanimous on one thing: If you’re only going to watch one of these documentaries, make it “Fyre” on Netflix. It’s the better-made movie, offering a clearer retelling of what actually went wrong at the first-time music festival in the Bahamas. But if you...

The Internet Is Raising Money For the Only Sympathetic Person In Netflix’s ‘Fyre’ Documentary

Fyre, one of the two Fyre Festival documentaries that dropped last week, is a wall-to-wall showcase for frustrating to downright loathsome people. But there’s one truly sympathetic figure at the center of it all: Maryann Rolle, a restaurant owner who was hired to prepare food for the infamous, disastrous event. When the festival fell through, Rolle had to pay her staff out of her own pocket for the prep, taking a considerable financial loss int he process. Now, perhaps in an effort to prove tha...
