Kiwis Rush to NZ Gun Shops in Anticipation of New Gun Laws

Opinion While some New Zealanders are turning in guns to police, others are rushing to gun shops to buy semi-auto rifles in anticipation of new gun control laws. (Dave Workman) USA – -( Instead of rushing to turn in their guns in the aftermath of the double mosque attacks in Christchurch, reports from New Zealand indicate that many of the island nation’s citizens are actually rushing to gun stores in the anticipation of a ban that might be coming from Prime Minister Jacinda Ard...

Trump slams handling of Brexit by UK's May

Trump, who met May last summer at Blenheim Palace, England, said he had given her his ideas on how to handle the negotiation on Britain's break from the European Union but that she had not taken his advice. "I will tell you, I'm surprised at how badly it's all gone from the standpoint of a negotiation," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office as he met Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.

Wine tasting in Virginia

Wine wasn’t the first thing on the minds of the initial English settlers who reached the shores of Jamestown in 1607, but it also wasn’t the last. Captain John Smith wrote about America’s native grapes just two years later, kicking off interest in what would eventually become the oldest wine growing region in the US. More than 400 years later, wine is still very much on the minds of Virginians — one might say more now than ever before. Virginia is the sixth largest wine grape producer in the...

A wonderful one-week home exchange in Oxford

The iconic 'Radcliffe Camera' - library building behind the famous Bodleian Library "We have just returned from a week in Oxford - our home exchange partners wanted to walk in the Peaks and we wanted to wander a city. We stayed in a small apartment, just a short bus ride from Oxford city centre, so we travelled in most days. So much to see and do! On the days which were too hot, we spent our time in one of the many museums or university buildings, and on other days, we managed to get ...

Trump’s Blistering Insults Of May Published As They Eat Dinner Together

CAMBERLEY, England (AP) — Bringing chaos with him as he moves across Europe, President Donald Trump’s pomp-filled welcome to Britain was overshadowed on Friday by an explosive interview in which the president blasted Prime Minister Theresa May, blamed London’s mayor for terror attacks against the city and argued that Europe was “losing its culture” because of immigration. Trump told The Sun newspaper on Thursday — in an interview that was published as he was being feted by May at an opulent dinn...

2018 TT2000 - Day 2

Day two of my trip was to get me down to Christchurch where the TT was starting.  I had deliberately crossed the straits the day before to give me the whole day to take in the Molesworth on my way South.  This ended out being a pretty good idea as the cyclone had brought down some more slips on SH1 near Kaikoura - again. My plans had also included inviting Al along as he now lives in Picton and is always keen for some good gravel exploring.  We agreed to meet up in Blenheim and when I got to the ...

2018 TT2000 - Day 1

Ok, so now that I'm home I better get a bit more serious with my posts...Day one of this year's  TT assault was a short ride to the ferry, across the Straits, a little pootling and then staying the night in Blenheim.  But...In the days leading up to my departure Cyclone Gita was hammering the stuffing out of the islands and coming our way.  I kept an eagle eye on things and hoped for the best.  In the end the cyclone didn't really hit Palmy (we had some high winds the night before I left) but it...

Proper fun

Another quick blog from the road...Today I met up with Al in Blenheim to tackle the Molesworth again.  He must have been a little keen as he was early! Blenheim Our first leg took us up over Taylor's Pass (first time for me).  There had been quite a bit of rain overnight so this first ford had a reasonable amount of fast flowing water in it. It only took us about 20mins to cross over and onto Acheron Road and 200km of fantastic riding.  I have a lot of pics hiding on my camera and...

Softer: Jenny Holzer review – Blenheim Palace becomes a house of LED horrors

Blenheim Palace, Woodstock The testimonies of soldiers writhe through LEDs looped around heroic Churchill statues and censored military documents collide with aristocratic portraits as the American artist captures the brutality of warGeneral John Churchill, first Duke of Marlborough, first Prince of Mindelheim, first Count of Nellenburg, Prince of the Holy Roman Empire, has become a monster. Tentacles sprout around his stone bust in the library of Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. Along these stur...

New Zealand's South Island

After my husband Eric and I got married in September of 2014, I wanted to take a honeymoon but was not excited about planning it. We decided to delay our post-nuptial adventure, but to at least start thinking about where to go. Originally, I’d wanted to go to Bora Bora, imagining we could stay in a hut perched on stilts over crystal blue water. Well-traveled friends told us that we’d be bored in Bora Bora and that we should consider somewhere we could be more active, like New Zealand. When Eri...
