How to remove ham from your disk drive

It's a few years old and I no longer have a computer with a CD tray, but I enjoyed this guide to removing ham from optical drives all the same. I might have to head up to the attic to find my old machine, as a large cotto salami is in its Blu-Ray player and I'm excited by the prospect that the same trick might work.

The Silence Of The Lambs – The Criterion Collection Blu-ray

I’m a really big fan of Jonathan Demme’s Silence Of The Lambs film, so when there was a nice price drop recently on the Criterion Collection’s release on Amazon I took the opportunity to pick it up ( together with Brian De Palma’s Blow Out and Cold War, both of which I might post pictures later on ). I actually already have Silence Of The Lambs on an earlier blu-ray release, but the surplus of excellent supplementary materials and the 4K remaster made me decide it was worth a double-dip ( I ...

Caltiki, the Immortal Monster – review

Directors: Riccardo Freda (as Robert Hamton), Mario Bava (uncredited) Release date: 1959 Contains spoilers Ok, let us get the directors out of the way first. Officially this is a Freda film, though he was credited as Robert Hamton to make domestic Italian audiences think it was an American film – this was especially after the cool reception that I Vampiri received. The great Mario Bava did cinematography and special effects but it is believed he also did uncredited direction (as he did with I V...

Headsup: Fighting the Good Fight

Disclaimer : Warner Brothers Home Entertainment asks that we note it provided a free copy of “His Dark Materials: The Complete First Season” and “The Flash: The Complete Sixth Season”.  The opinions I share are my own. “For Special Agent Dwayne Cassius Pride (Scott Bakula) and his team at the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, kidnappers, cults, traffickers and murderers are business as usual. But with the tragic loss of one of their own, these agents suddenly find themselves driven by more t...

Honourable Mention: M (1951)

I looked at the classic Fritz Lang film M (1931), which is by no means a vampire film, because the film was produced whilst the crimes of Peter Kürten, the so called Vampire of Düsseldorf, were in the public mind – it seems likely that the killer of the film was partially based on Kürten, though it was denied. The film dialogue also mentions another serial killer who was dubbed vampire, Fritz Haarmann (not mentioned in this remake). The original film was stunning and there was an English langua...

Is HBO Max 4K? No, and here's why the streaming service doesn't offer the format

At this time, HBO Max does not offer any titles in 4K on the streaming platform. 4K resolution is the step above 1080p HD and Blu-Ray, and it's coveted for both new releases and fan favorites. For this reason, many HBO users expected 4K capabilities for the HBO Max launch, especially after neither HBO Go nor HBO Now offered any titles in 4K. HBO Max has said that 4K streaming is on the service's "roadmap," without specifying a time frame for when subscribers can expect the feature.   Visit Bus...

These 20 home theater must-haves might make you forget the cineplex

Even as the world takes tentative steps toward reopening against the ebbs and flows of  COVID-19, movie theaters remain in a netherworld limbo. High-profile film releases continue shuffling as theater chains, studios and filmgoers grapple with the fact that an enclosed theater may not be a safe place to be for some time to come.  By now, you're probably also keenly aware of any shortcomings in your own home theater setup. From poor signals to crunchy sound to a less than perfect image quality...
