The “Khan” might be the most otherworldly BMW bike ever made

Pretty much bridging the gap between concept bikes and concept art for games and movies, Mehmet Doruk Erdem’s “Khan” is an eclectic mix of unbelievable, dangerous, and beautiful. However, if you’ve followed Mehmet’s work in the past, you know exactly what level of aesthetic beauty the Turkish designer works on. Khan, in many ways is classic Mehmet, but at the same time it’s just surreal for us mere mortals who have, up until now, only seen relatively normal-looking motorbikes.Erdem’s “Khan” conc...

SPECIAL K – 1985 BMW K100

Written by Martin Hodgson | Photography by Niall Porter When you reside within the custom motorcycle world and new people wish to join the fray, they always have one of two questions. What bike should I buy as my first steed or which bike should I choose for my first build. The answer is to both is really the same; cheap, light, basic and reliable. Lucky for all of us David Ewen ignored the advice I would have offered and chose to take up the challenge by building a killer custom for his ...

Mercedes-AMG A 35 Sedan: The Nemesis For Audi & BMW Hot Shoes

The Mercedes-AMG A 35 Sedan shows how big things can come in small packages.  Under the hood, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine provides over 300 horsepower.  The individual AMG-tuned drive modes are complimented by a special “RACE-START” feature.  Mercedes-Benz recently dropped one of their typically huge press releases on their (relatively) small A 35 performance sedan. And small though it may be, it is still very much a Mercedes. Given the performance, it’s still very much an AMG. It...

Made to showcase its vintage BMW engine, the ‘Birdcage’ has a wireframe design

At first glance, the BMW Motorrad Birdcage looks like a 3D model viewed in wireframe mode. It’s easy to make that mistake, because the Birdcage, sure enough, has an incredible, wireframe-inspired design. Designed as an homage to the BMW Motorrad boxer engine the company developed 50 years ago, the Birdcage houses the absolutely stunning piece of engineering in a titanium see-through mesh-esque cage that gives the engine the attention it deserves. The titanium frame allows the curvilinear boxer...

Griffin Club VIP Treatment at the JW Marriott Los Cabos Resort

How do you turn a big beach resort with 299 rooms into a high-service luxury hotel? You make a hotel within a hotel. For the JW Marriott Los Cabos, that means one section called The Griffin Club that's more exclusive and comes with more perks. The JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort and Spa opened the year before last, but there's been such a flurry of new resort openings in the region at the bottom of the Baja Peninsula that we've had to visit three times in the past year in order to keep up. ...

Ad Age 2019 Multicultural Agency of the Year: Cashmere

Cashmere Agency’s leadership team built the company without having worked at other agencies—which means not knowing how things are “supposed” to be done. This just might be the shop’s biggest advantage.  Los Angeles-based Cashmere doesn’t define itself with the usual labels; it’s part lifestyle agency and part multicultural agency, and fluid about the clients it takes on. “I don’t know how it should be done based on agency principles that have been around since the ‘Mad Men’ era,” says Cashmer...

It also became the global customer relationship management agency-of-record for Acuvue and the integrated agency of record for BMW, and won business-to-business CRM work for eBay. Could BMW Add a 1800cc Boxer to its Engine Lineup?

A Big Engine for a Touring Machine There are images of an intricate custom motorcycle being showcased at many different places around the Web. It’s called the Birdcage, and it comes from Revival Cycles custom motorcycle shop in Austin Texas. The first most-notable thing about it is the bike’s frame. it’s an intricately built mass of bars that gives the bike its name. Then you notice the engine. It’s a 1800cc boxer twin. That means 900cc on either side. As RideApart notes the engine first appear...

Revival Cycles ‘Birdcage BMW’

Words by Justin Benson. Revival Cycles’ latest build; “The Birdcage”, at first glance – looks to be the work of a madman. Showcasing BMW’s newest prototype boxer engine, the frame is entirely comprised of titanium (a first for the Revival team), made up of 150 separate pieces, taking a full 2 weeks, day and night, to finish welding. Almost every piece on the bike was fabricated in house, with great attention paid to design, function, and most importantly – weight. The asymmetrical frame of “Th...

Racer-X: Testing the limits of electric motorcycle design

Electric motorcycles tend to look strangely conventional. Even the oddball $60,000 Curtiss Zeus has a ‘tank’ and a seat where you’d expect them to be. So although the powertrains are revolutionary, the designs tend to be evolutionary. And we’ve often wondered why. Perhaps motorcyclists are just too conservative? Mark Atkinson, the bike builder and machinist who built the incredible BMW ‘Alpha’ Landspeeder, has pondered this question too. And he’s just created this extreme e-bike to find ou...
