BMW Posts Eight Years In a Row of Sales Increases

Let the BMW Good Times Roll BMW is on a sales increases run that’s years long. The company posted an annual sales increase for the eighth straight year. The company saw an uptick in sales of 0.9 percent for 2018. That brings BMW’s annual total of motorcycles sold to a strong 165,566. That’s the sales for both the brand’s motorcycles and maxi scooters. There are other companies that sell way more units, but eight straight years of increases for BMW is quite impressive. How the New BMW 7 Series Propelled into English Skies Without a Single Sighting

To relaunch the iconic BMW 7 Series model, a two-minute spot created by Serviceplan and shot by Tony Petersen Film, required the expert knowledge of production service company LS Productions to pull off the logistically complex airport runway shoot without a single person seeing the new vehicle. Contending with airports from around Europe, LS Productions sourced an exceptional location in the North of England with both the right aesthetic and the practical needs for the highly secretive shoot. ...

LG to Supply Gesture-Reading System for Mercedes-Benz, Sources Say

A camera installed in the car ceiling will read the driver’s hand gestures, letting them control tasks such as turning on cruise control and adjusting music volume. BMW has already deployed a similar system in its 7 Series sedans, using technology from Softkinetic Systems, which was later bought by Sony Corp. LG already has a deal with Mercedes for a camera system that can tell if the driver is drowsy. A Jan. 8 news release by Mercedes-Benz from CES in Las Vegas showcased a new feature called ...

Shitanes 61: VTR Customs’ outrageous BMW R nineT

There’s a lot to be said for elegance and subtlety. And there’s also a time and place for going completely over the top. Dani Weidmann and his crew at the Swiss shop VTR Customs can play it both ways. This time, they’ve turned the volume up to 11 and built a BMW R nineT that’s about as subtle as an AC/DC riff. It’s got 136 hp, a stonking 145 Nm of torque, and it’s called ‘Shitanes 61’—a reference to the famous Gitanes motor racing livery from the 1980s. The story starts at the last Swiss ...

Supra Vs. Z4: The Fine Line Between Toyota & BMW Sports Cars

The 2020 Toyota Supra is destined for greatness. But there’s a problem. The BMW Z4 M40i is basically the same car albeit with a more powerful motor. Which begs the question: when is a Toyota sports car not a BMW? Where does one end and the other begin? The much anticipated hype is over. In the immortal words of my colleague Tony Borroz, it’s time to stop frothing at the mouth since the 2020 Toyota Supra is finally here. And boy, what a journey it has been, huh? I’m pretty sure Toyota did ev...

QOTD: Manufacturer Cooperation – Cash Saver, or Corrosive Cancer?

Cooperation and borrowing between auto manufacturers is nothing new, and it isn’t always a bad thing. For example, look what happened in the 1980s when Lincoln borrowed a BMW inline-six turbodiesel for its Continental Mark VII luxury coupe. Oh, maybe that’s not the best example. Custom Bikes Of The Week: 13 January, 2019

Ever heard of the Suzuki XF650 Freewind before? Neither had we, but we love this custom scrambler from the Netherlands. We’ve also got a Buell M2 Cyclone that actually looks attractive, and a Honda CR750 racer priced at a quarter of a million dollars—and worth every cent. Buell M2 Cyclone by Officine Urgani Even the most ardent Buell fanboy would have to admit that the M2 Cyclone is an ugly bike, even by Buell’s admittedly variable standards. The M2 wasn’t a bad bike though, and with 91 hp...
