Rockets signing two, Ingram to get a max deal?

Ryan Knaus and I are in Stamford, CT as I write this and just got done watching the Daytona 500 at Bobby V's sports pub. Ironically, I watched the 'Blink of An Eye' documentary on the plane flight out here, which is about Dale Earnhardt's death at Daytona in 2001, his relationship with Michael Waltrip, and Waltrip breaking a 462-race winless streak on the same day his friend and new owner, Earnhardt, died.

Best NYC shows with LGBTQ characters

There’s no place like home — just ask Transparent star Alexandra Billings, who recently became the first openly transgender actress to play Madame Morrible in the Broadway production of Wicked. After her inaugural performance, Billings wrote on Instagram, “Last night I had the honor to be placed gently and with loving hands into the glorious Land of Oz…Where home is defined by truth and the power of chosen family.” Wicked, the girl-power prequel to The Wizard of Oz, has always had a home in ...

Marilyn Monroe TV Series Being Developed By ‘Yellowstone’ Producers

There’s a Marilyn Monroe TV series in the works from Yellowstone producer 101 Studios and Seven Seas Films, and it’s bound to raise an eyebrow or two. Because the series isn’t a mere biographical work that focuses on the late starlet’s life. Instead, the still-untitled show will focus on Monroe’s tragic final years struggling with addiction, ultimately resulting in her death via drug overdose. But it also wants to set the record straight and put to bed some of the more lurid conspiracy theories...

Bobby Labonte gets last-minute help from brother at HoF induction

Terry Labonte wasn't supposed to be the man who would induct his little brother into the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Friday night. Bobby Labonte had given that honor to their father, Bob, the man who helped start both their racing careers in their home state of Texas and eventually owned Bobby's Xfinity Series car when he won the 1991 championship. But when the time came for the 2000 Cup Series champion to be inducted as part of the Hall of Fame's 11th class – with Tony Stewart, Waddel...

Whether you’ve got big plans to travel the world in 2020 or intend to stay put, you’ll need a few good books to keep you company. All-Star Weekend Provides Fun and Festivities for All of St. Louis

The 2020 All-Star Game was exactly as expected: quintessentially, St. Louis. The St. Louis Blues had four players representing the Central Division and head coach Craig Berube was behind the bench. Even with those powerhouses in place, the Central lost and the Pacific won. No matter. The weekend fanfare, with alumni, St. Louis natives and Laila, was a show in and of itself. What Are the Chances, St. Louis? For the first 23 years, the location of the All-Star Game was determined by the d...

History of poke and poke bowls

I heard music playing in the main courtyard from my room at the Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu, Kauai, at around 9:30 in the morning. As I walked past pools and the Holoholo Grill to get there, I heard an emcee with a microphone before I saw him. “We’ve got a lot of great things coming up for you all with the first-ever poke fest on Kauai,” the emcee said. “Why? Because Sam Choy said so!” If you’re talking about poke in Kauai, the name Sam Choy is guaranteed to come up. Choy — a James Beard F...

You Can Never Do Wrong, Doing Right

ON Martin Luther King Day, it is worth meeting a close friend of his, Robert J. Brown. Brown is the great-grandson of a slave. Raised by his grandmother in High Point, North Carolina, she used to tell him, “Bobby, do the right thing because you can never do wrong, doing right. You can’t go wrong.” And that has proven true for him over and over again. Although he grew up in poverty, his grandmother—he called her Mama—taught him about stewardship early on. Once when he was young, he asked her, “w...

My Workout Diary: Marcus Samuelsson

On the new season of Marcus Samuelsson’s PBS show No Passport Required, which begins airing tonight, he travels across the United States visiting chefs, cooking and, of course, eating. But I’m used to seeing him in a much more local setting: Central Park. I’ve crossed paths with the James Beard Award–winning chef a few times, running the loop in the park. He lives nearby in Harlem, which is also home to his signature restaurant the Red Rooster. These days, Samuelsson seems to be everywhere with ...

Pleasant and Challenging

I decided to rest my sore back (too much heavy lifting around Wilotree Park) but Mick Howard and John Simon decided to go north but late at 2:20 PM. At 10 AM the sky was full of ill formed gray bottomed (thin) cu's with light cirrus overhead. The cu's stayed that way all day."Michael Howard" writes: Cloud base was predicted to be around 5000’ and with the expected southeast winds we were hoping to fly a little further than previous days.  However the sky didn’t look so inviting ...

On Feb. 6, 1990, Brett Hull scored his 50th goal of the season, to become part of the first father-son combo to each score 50 goals in an NHL season. My brother in law Jerry is working on a project to collect all of his family’s digital subscriptions; subscriptions to streaming video services, music services, subscriptions to online news and other publications, subscriptions to software services, subscriptions to education services, etc, etc. He is planning a dinner in which he will review all of them with his family and understand which ones they are using and which ones they are not using. Then he can prune the list. I am sure this isn’t...

Drone delivery startup Manna boosts seed funding ahead of launch in Ireland

Listening yo the radio (yes it still exists) the other day I realized that the ‘futurist’ that was being interviewed was speculating that drones would “one day be delivering food, but not any time soon”. Well, so much for that prediction. Because coming to an Irish household early next year will be drones delivering exactly that. For Manna, a B2B2 drone delivery ‘as-a-service’ company, today announced an additional funding round of $3M, led by Dynamo VC, a logistics-focused fund. The move brings...
