“Yes I can!”: the psychology behind lasting personal growth

Approximately 80% of New Year’s resolutions are abandoned by the second week of February. But what makes these goals so difficult to achieve? One theory is that our resolutions are often too big to manage. Sticking to major changes like dieting and exercise can become overwhelming—causing us to give up after any initial set-backs. “Performance accomplishments” can help mitigate these challenges: by breaking down resolutions into smaller goals, we can build the self-confidence needed to take on b...

In the zone: how balancing stress levels improves performance [excerpt]

Balancing stress is easier said than done. A low-stress state can lead to apathy, while a high-stress state can lead to anxiety. However, being in the right “zone” of stress can lead to peak focus and productivity. In the following excerpt from Boost!, Michael Bar-Eli discusses how applying sports psychology to the workplace can optimize employee performance. Athletes’ maximum performance, also known as peak performance, is often characterized or accompanied by what is called a “flow state” or “...

I’m getting Naked

I am trying Naked Smoothies as a calorie supplement.  I am having a really hard time keeping food down and these along with Boost help keep my calories up and my weight stable.  The one bad thing is that they are $4 at 7-11 but we found them at Costco for about a $1 a bottle.  Not only are they cheap but they don’t they contain addition sugar and I like the taste better than Boost and Ensure.

Today

On Thursday I went to bed late.  I woke up this afternoon.  I actually woke up a bit on Friday but only to eat a bit but I was too tired to get out of bed. These 48 power naps have become the norm and they are taking their toll on me.  Not only do they steal a day but the inactivity doesn’t help.  As much as I complain about it, fighting the dog for space doesn’t burn that much calories or help me gain strength to walk. I had hoped to go out tonight but after getting out of bed, showering, and g...

A Supercase for your Macbook

You know how when Tony Stark steps into the exoskeleton suit, he becomes Iron Man? Think of the Boost as pretty much the same sort of suit for your Macbook.Apple’s products continue to discard features in the name of sleekness and innovation. The MacBook has seen a similar fate. With just one USB type C port on the entire machine (and no glowing logo), the new MacBook feels sleek, but also weak. Boost, like its name says, is a razor thin case that gives the Macbook a much needed adrenaline sho...

SOSV, “the accelerator VC,” closes third fund at $150 million

Since the advent of accelerators, venture capitalists have competed to lock in deals with the best startups in a given batch.
