Zion 100 Race Report 2019

Dear Zion 100, Hi. It's me, Cory. I just wanted to write you a little thank you note after this year's race. You're my friend, so I want to be honest with you. I wasn't sure I wanted to hang out with you this year. Because of these pesky infusions I've been doing every week, I haven't been able to run as much as I used to. I wasn't sure how my legs would hold up. But I love you. You are beautiful. And I love sleeping in my own bed the night before a race, with the start line only a few minutes...

The Stagecoach Country Music Festival announced its 2022 lineup on Monday, July 12, and while the festival has been around since 2007, this lineup has a lot of surprises for the event, which returns to the Empire Polo Club in Indio April 29-May 1. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves Has A Weird Legacy 30 Years Later

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is a weird film. No, really. Drop any preconceptions based on nostalgia for those awesome Kenner action figures and re-watch the flick with a fresh perspective. As a kid, I enjoyed the action, romance, and Michael Kamen’s terrific score, but watching Kevin Reynolds’ 1991 blockbuster today, on its 30th Anniversary, it’s clear from the start that the film has no idea what it wants to be and ends up feeling like a hodgepodge of conflicting ideas. Sure, it still works,...

Five Things to Love About ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’ on Its 30th Birthday

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, the 1991 gritty reboot of the Robin Hood legend, turns 30 today. And while there are plenty of warranted criticisms against the film, there’s also plenty of stuff to love, too. Sure, the movie has no real grasp on the historical elements it injects into the mythology, and Kevin Costner‘s attempt at an English accent is laughable. But Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is not without its charms. So here are five things to love about Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. 1...

The Number Ones So Far

In January of 2018, I was killing time at the gym while my kids were finishing up a swimming class, and I was idly clicking around Tom Ewing’s Popular, a writing project that’s been going on for well over a decade. Ewing has been writing funny, incisive, personal reviews of every song ever to hit #1 on the UK charts, and it’s been one of the best things on the internet for a long time. I found myself wondering about #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, our own American pop chart. Was there a lis...
