Helicopter company in fatal Kobe Bryant crash sues 2 air traffic controllers

The company that operated the helicopter that crashed in Calabasas in January, killing Laker legend Kobe Bryant and eight others, is fighting back against lawsuits by filing a suit of its own contending air-traffic controllers were to blame for the crash. The suit, filed last week as a cross-complaint to litigation against Island Express Helicopters and seeking unspecified damages, contends the crash was “caused by a series of erroneous acts and/or omissions” by a pair of air-traffic controllers...

Nearly seven months after his death, Lakers keep the memory of Kobe Bryant close to heart

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — On the court, the Black Mamba was Kobe Bryant’s icy persona. He was less himself and more a character: a cold-blooded scorer who would not hesitate to strike. Adopting snake scales as his skin was his way of hiding any sense of doubt — his way of showing an uncompromised resolve to compete. The Lakers hope to feel something like that Monday night for Game 4 against the Trail Blazers, when they don their Black Mamba City Edition jerseys (brought back from the 2017-18 seas...

Danger lurks on the other side. Tuesday, the Dodgers begin a three-game road trip to San Francisco, where fires north, east and south of the city are choking the air in the region. Alexander: Lakers fans, it’s been a long wait

OK, Laker fans, you can breathe. Yes, I know. After all of those pre-bubble expectations, all those dreams of title No. 17, it took one loss to put this fan base that has waited so long to get back to the playoffs on the verge of a nervous breakdown. After all, with seven years of going home early – sorry for the reminder, by the way – some of you may have forgotten how the madness of the NBA postseason works. Here’s a hint: The more desperate or at least urgent team often has the edge. Thursday...

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — A text popped into the Lakers’ team thread Sunday night. Rajon Rondo sent his teammates a picture: his practice uniform, laid out on top of his bed. The 34-year-old was ready to be released. Alex Caruso likened it to a child preparing for the first day of school. “He’s not a guy that likes to sit around,” Caruso said. “He’s constantly either working out or playing basketball. Dodgers defend decision-making with top prospect Gavin Lux

The reigning Minor League Player of the Year, as determined by Baseball America, the Dodgers’ Gavin Lux came into spring training seen by many as a strong candidate to not only be the their primary second baseman, but also to make a run at the franchise’s 19th National League Rookie of the Year award. As camp progressed, however, it became apparent the Dodgers did not see Lux as a lock to open the season on their roster, and that raised questions about service-time manipulation — a frequent mane...
