Focusing On Signings, Trades And UFAs

from Dan Rosen of NHL.com, Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams said after the first round of the draft Friday that he is fielding calls on Eichel. He said he spoke to Eichel's agent, Peter Fish, twice Saturday, and has not ruled out keeping him the Buffalo captain. "I would have no problem at all if Jack Eichel is on our team when we start training camp," Adams said. "I have said this before and I'll say it again: If we are in a position that we believe will help our franchise ...

30 Trade Targets

from Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff, Happy NHL Draft Day 2021. There’s plenty on the move, so hurry up and dive in to read about the 30 Trade Targets in play before everything changes. 1.  Jack Eichel Center, Buffalo Sabres Age: 24 Contract: 5 years remaining at $10 million AAV Scoop: The asking price for Eichel seems to be “fantastical” by all accounts. Teams are on high alert in the hours leading up to the first round of the NHL Draft. The Rangers, for one, were calli...

Whicker: Jack Eichel’s unhappiness could become the Kings’ delight

The idea of Jack Eichel coming to the Los Angeles Kings would be the very definition of a cheap thrill, if it were cheap. Eichel had 137 goals and 200 assists in his first five seasons. In 2021 he only had two goals, thanks to a neck injury. He also is dealing with a sprained disposition and a dislocated mood. The Buffalo Sabres have not made the playoffs in 10 years. Now they seem farther away than Pluto is from Jeff Bezos. Eichel missed the meeting in which hockey players are taught to smother...

Reel in wonderful Southern seafood at T & C’s Tackle Box in Van Nuys

T & C’s Tackle Box Southern Seafood is a family affair — and not just because it’s the creation of cousins Christopher David and Trevor Hairston. It’s a family affair because, by the time you’ve finished placing your order, you’ll feel like a member of the family. They take great pride in the cooking — which well deserves that pride. You’ll want to chat about the relative flavors of cod versus whiting, tilapia versus red snapper — and wonder why it is that catfish, which is so tasty, gets so lit...

Here are 5 outrageous foods coming to the OC Fair starting Friday, July 16

Sometimes it’s an oddball mashup that catches our eye, sometimes it’s a homey or exotic dish that seems totally out of place on the midway. Occasionally, it’s a creation that takes familiar flavors over the top. Either way we always love to make note of the most outrageous dishes served at the OC Fair which opens Friday, July 16. Some, like the deep-fried Oreos, are now classics. So it will be fun to see if any survive beyond this year. Lola Ramirez thinks she just might have a contender with th...

The Asking Price For Jack Eichel And The New York Rangers May Have Interest

from Larry Brooks of the New York Post, The Blueshirts have been linked to Eichel since last summer, when then-GM Jeff Gorton had pre-draft discussions with his Buffalo counterpart Kevyn Adams. The talks are believed to have broken down when Gorton refused to part with the first-overall selection that became Alexis Lafreniere.  Eichel, who has been diagnosed with a herniated disk in his neck, is just coming off 12 weeks of rest and rehab as prescribed by the Sabres team physicians. Th...

Melatonin in mice: there's more to this hormone than sleep

Researchers at the RIKEN Center for Brain Science and the RIKEN BioResource Research Center in Japan, along with collaborators at the State University of New York at Buffalo, have created a mouse model that allows the study of naturally occurring melatonin. Experiments using the new mice showed that natural melatonin was linked to a pre-hibernation state that allows mice to slow down their metabolism and survive when food is scarce.

Yankees Turn Game-Ending Triple-Play, Beat A’s 2-1

NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees manager Aaron Boone knew it off the bat. “Usually, a triple play sneaks up on you,” he said. “Right away, I’m thinking, ‘That’s a triple play.’” New York turned its record-tying third triple play of the season to strand the go-ahead run in the ninth inning, bailing out closer Aroldis Chapman from a shaky outing and closing down a 2-1 win over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday. Gary Sánchez spoiled Sean Manaea’s gem with a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth inning, and rel...
