Mazda No. 1 in Consumer Reports 2020 auto reliability survey

By Tom Krisher | The Associated Press Mazda beat traditional winners Lexus and Toyota to win top honors as the most dependable auto brand in Consumer Reports’ annual reliability survey. Ford and its Lincoln luxury brand fell in the survey with Lincoln finishing last among 26 brands after introducing new SUVs. Electric car maker Tesla was second from the bottom with reliability troubles on three of its four models. Mazda, with its U.S. headquarters in Irvine, took top honors for the first time in...

"Bring Back the Third Gen!"

Any time discussion of the Third Gen Smif autoloaders comes up on social media, someone will pine for their reintroduction, but it's just not going to happen, at least on any large scale. Even if they still had the tooling (and I'm not entirely sure they do), the costs would be prohibitive. The 3rd Gen Smiths, even with every short cut they could try, were still more expensive to build than the classic P-series Sigs. And they were very well-built guns. The fit and finish on an early 5906 or 1...

GM's revival of the Hummer as an all-electric halo car is a stroke of marketing genius

The Hummer is back, this time as an all-electric mega-truck. GMC General Motors relaunched the controversial Hummer brand this past week, reviving a paramilitary nameplate once synonymous with testosterone swagger and defiant gas-guzzling, but as an all-electric pickup under GMC division. I begged GM to save Hummer back in 2008, lost the case, and was completely surprised when the brand staged a dramatic comeback with an entirely new mojo. GM isn't noted for brilliant marketing moves, but ...

White House staff, Secret Service eye virus with fear, anger

By JILL COLVIN, DEB RIECHMANN and COLLEEN LONG | Associated Press WASHINGTON — The West Wing is a ghost town. Staff members are scared of exposure. And the White House is now a treatment ward for not one — but two — COVID patients, including a president who has long taken the threat of the virus lightly. President Donald Trump’s decision to return home from a military hospital despite his continued illness is putting new focus on the people around him who could be further exposed if he doesn’t a...

Four Classic Prince Songs Re-Imagined as Pulp Fiction Covers: When Doves Cry, Little Red Corvette & More

There’s a book-lined Knowledge Room in the late Prince Rogers Nelson’s Paisley Park, but the Prince-inspired faux-books that artist Todd Alcott imagines are probably better suited to the estate's purple-lit Relaxation Room. The Knowledge Room was conceived of as a library where the world’s most famous convert to Jehovah’s Witnesses could delve into religious literature, reflect on the meaning of life, and study the Bible deep into the night. Alcott’s covers harken to an earlier stage in Prince’...
