Cadillac’s XTS Has an End Date to Etch on Its Tombstone; Union Anticipates Additional Jobs at Oshawa Assembly

Following last week’s announcement of a new, less-populous future for General Motors’ once doomed Oshawa Assembly plant, a promise backed up by $170 million in company cash, the union representing workers at the Canadian facility has revealed when its current products will bite the dust. Under a company-wide streamlining effort outlined last year, Oshawa would […] The post Cadillac’s XTS Has an End Date to Etch on Its Tombstone; Union Anticipates Additional Jobs at Oshawa Assembly appeared first...

GM is going to kill off its big Buick and Cadillac sedans in the US, but they are still alive and well in China (GM)

On Monday, General Motors announced that it would close three assembly plants in 2019 and discontinue six passenger cars made at the plants.  The six discontinued models are mostly slow-selling sedans from Chevrolet, Cadillac, and Buick. However, GM has confirmed that three of the six models will continue to be built in China.  Even as the China-US trade war heats up, Chinese demand for American cars remains strong. And that includes good old-fashioned American sedans. But even as General Mot...

Over the First Three Quarters of 2018, Only Four GM Cars Have Anything to Brag About

General Motors joined the vast majority of its automotive colleagues in having a crappy sales month in September, posting an 11.1 percent year-over-year volume loss. The issues facing OEMs last month were many. As interest rates rise and the market cools, automakers looking to capture more for their coffers are trending towards reduced fleet sales […] The post Over the First Three Quarters of 2018, Only Four GM Cars Have Anything to Brag About appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

Detroit’s October 2017 Sales: Ford Soars, Fiat Chrysler Hits the Brakes

If the Detroit Three want to keep wind in their sales sails, it sure won’t happen on the strength of traditional passenger cars. Several brands from Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles posted U.S. sales declines in October 2017, all thanks to the slipping popularity of regular cars. In many cases, the continued […] The post Detroit’s October 2017 Sales: Ford Soars, Fiat Chrysler Hits the Brakes appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

Why General Motors Revamped the 2018 Cadillac XTS

General Motors (NYSE: GM) is giving the last of the old-school Cadillacs an update. The company said that 2018 versions of its big Cadillac XTS sedan will have a revamped look, more comfortable seats, and some new technology.GM's decision to update the XTS is something of a surprise. The company was widely expected to discontinue the model, which is built on an older front-wheel-drive architecture, in order to focus on its newer, sharper-edged rear-wheel-drive sedans. But something surprising h...

2017 Cadillac XTS Rental Review – Personal Emerald Aisle Sedan

(Everybody say HAYYYYYYY to our guest reviewer du jour, Danger Girl! —jb) The creaky old 737-300, lacking wi-fi and assigned seating but chock-full of oversized roller luggage, touched down in Queen City at about 9:40 p.m. on a Monday night. General Motors Will Allot More Product to Oshawa Besides Pickups: Sources

Ask Bark: Bad Cars That Are Actually Good

I always wonder what’s out there that’s actually decent, if not outright good, that everyone […] The post Ask Bark: Bad Cars That Are Actually Good appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

2016 Toyota Avalon Review

The Toyota Camry comes in two other forms — a slightly larger/much more luxurious version called the Avalon — and a much more expensive (and only slightly nicer) version called the Lexus ES350. All three spring from the same basic platform — car industry jargon for a common chassis — and share major components, including the 3.5 liter V6 that’s available in the Camry and standard equipment in the other two. This review’s about the Avalon version which — not surprisingly — is a little roomier tha...

2015 Kia K900 V-8 Long-Term Update 9

There are certain bridges a $66,400 Kia simply cannot cross, no matter how good the car might be. The automaker will never get widespread K900 purchase consideration from BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class buyers, but that's not necessarily the case for Acura RLX and Cadillac XTS buyers.
