Frumpy Middle-aged Mom: Thanks, kids, for changing the radio station on me

Believe me when I tell you that it pains me to say this, but thank you, children. Thank you for annoying the you-know-what out of me for the last 12 years, which is about how long your arms have been long enough to reach over to change the radio channel without my permission. Many of you reading this probably know the fun of driving with little kids on the car. When you’re not shouting at them to stop bickering and sit back down in their seats, they can actually be entertaining when you all sing...

Alicia Keys Wore A $15 Drugstore Foundation To The Grammys

More often than not, no-makeup makeup is a misnomer. We've learned it actually takes an enormous amount of prep to give skin a glow that looks natural — like the way Alicia Keys' dewy cheekbones seemed to pulsate light from the Grammys stage last night. We felt vindicated by the realization that the famously "anti-makeup" star was, in fact, wearing makeup, but the real shocker wasn't that she was wearing foundation: It was that the full-coverage formula she chose is not rich-person fancy (like ...

2019 might be some kind of cosmic turning point in the history of the Grammys: The first show where the conversation was more about who didn’t perform than who did. Why the 61st Annual Grammy Awards Telecast Was the Queerest, Fiercest, and the Best Yet

None Even if you didn't watch it, you knew that this year's Grammys were like any other's year's Grammy Award telecast: it was simply far, far too long.Yet that wasn't the only negative to be noted on the ceremony's 61st iteration. This time around, there were far too few awards were given out during the televised portion, several acceptance speech winners were played off (and twice abruptly cut off), one of the night's big winners wasn't even there (Childish Gambino/Donald Glover), and Recordi...

The Grammys Could Have Been Worse!

Could it have been any more obvious that the Grammys were desperately trying to do some serious image rehab this year? You don't drag out Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jennifer Lopez, and Michelle motherfucking Obama in the first five minutes of your telecast unless you're hoping to do some course-correction when it comes to how … More »

Grammys 2019: Women dominate the award show performances

The 61st Annual Grammy Awards ceremony was dominated by strong female-led performances. That along with 15-time Grammy Award-winner and powerhouse R&B singer Alicia Keys hosting, set the tone for the evening. Early on, Ke...

Grammys 2019 fashion sparkles, literally, with bejeweled dresses, jumpsuits and more

Awards shows are known for their flash and glam, but the 61st annual Grammy Awards took it to a literal level at Staples Center in Los Angeles Sunday, Feb. 10. The red carpet was full of sparkling stars wearing shiny dresses, glittering bling and more. (It also had plenty of big hats.) And the glitter didn’t stop once the show started, either, with Lady Gaga wearing a Bowie-esque bedazzled jumpsuit for the performance of “A Star Is Born” power ballad “Shallow.” Mark Ronson, from left, Andrew...

Grammys 2019: Ricky Martin, Camila Cabello and J Balvin deliver a colorful bilingual performance

Latin crossover sensation Ricky Martin first performed at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards ceremony and gyrated his hips to “Cup of Life,” the 1998 World Cup anthem, at the Shrine in Los Angeles in 1999. He returned to the Grammy stage 20 years later to join Cuban-American singer-songwriter Camila Cabello, J Balvin and trumpet player Arturo Sandoval in a colorful version of Cabello’s Grammy-nominated hit, “Havana.” It was a big moment for Latin music as throughout the Grammys’ 61-year history there...

Grammys 2019 fashion: What’s with all the hats?

It was raining in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 10, when the stars started arriving at 61st annual Grammy Awards at Staples Center, so perhaps the gloomy weather inspired the biggest fashion trend on the red carpet: hats. Everyone from Janelle Monáe and Jennifer Lopez to Billy Ray Cyrus and Leon Bridges sported headgear. Super producer Linda Perry, who has been a big chapeau person since 4 Non Blondes were on MTV with “What’s Up?” wore hers on both the red carpet and on stage during the salute to ...

Lula Miranda Makes an Acoustic Mashup Out of "Cherry Kiss" (premiere)

None Trading in the heavy bass synth and electronic melodies of her song, "Cherry Kiss" for a live acoustic ensemble, Lula Miranda offers a new take on her infectious single. Other than its ushering in of organic instrumentation and softer direction, Miranda's acoustic rendition of "Cherry Kiss" also remixes Camila Cabello's "She Loves Control" along the bridge. The two songs are meshed together expertly by the Argentinian artist and her band, creating just as much of a groove to lose oneself i...
