World's most instagrammed forests

About a third of the world’s landmass is covered in forest. And in addition to providing important stuff like the oxygen we breathe and habitats for wild animals, they also make for some downright jaw-dropping photographs. From the towering redwoods of California to the cloud forests of Costa Rica, the trees covering our planet can be our most beautiful sites when captured correctly. We took a look at Taxi2airport.com’s study of the 15 most-Instagrammed forests in the world and found some of ...

Video- Canada Beats Russia To Win Gold At The WJC

Canada was down 3-1 but kept on pushing to win 4-3. from Frank Seravalli of TSN, Go ahead and etch the name ‘Barrett Hayton’ into Team Canada lore. Because Hayton authored one of the most incredible chapters in Canada’s rich history at the World Junior Championship on Sunday. Less than 24 hours earlier, Hayton writhed in pain on the ice with an audible ‘yelp’ so loud that you could hear it across Ostravar Arena. His injury was as unfortunate as it was unnecessary late in a semif...

2020 WJC Team Russia Final Roster

Russia’s final roster for the 2020 World Junior Championship is right along the lines of projections. Highlighted by the likes of Yaroslav Askarov, Alexander Romanov and Grigori Denisenko, the Russian squad should have a real chance to repeat, if not improve upon, their bronze medal effort in the 2019 tournament. Last year, Russia dominated in the preliminary stage, winning four straight games and allowing just six goals. After easily dismissing Slovakia in the first round, they fail...

What if Canada Could Have Two WJC Teams?

The Team Canada and as always, it’s hard not to look at the roster and think of a certain player who deserves to be there. Every year, the Canadians have the luxury of choosing their team from a vast list of high-end prospects. There are so many to choose from, that there are always prospects that many fans think should have made the team. Related: THW’s World Juniors Coverage So, this year, I solved the problem. Canada is going to have two teams. Unfair to everyone else? Absolutely. Is ...

Canucks Prospect Michael DiPietro Is Setting the OHL On Fire

Ryan Biech wrote a nice piece for the Vancouver Canucks’ official website about the Canucks’ young goalie prospect Michael DiPietro. DiPietro will soon be playing in the OHL finals this season after having an amazing run with the Ottawa 67’s, where he led his team to a perfect 12-0-0 postseason record. In those games, he had a 2.26 goals-against average (GAA) with a .913 save percentage (SV%). In fact, in one game, DiPietro’s 58-save performance led his team to a triple-overtime victory. D...

Jets’ 2018 Draft Pick Update

The amount of attention draft picks get varies wildly. They’re heavily highlighted in the weeks leading up to their draft, staunchly scrutinized as they are selected and much-ballyhooed as they strut their stuff at prospect showcases and development camps. However, by the time October comes and the puck drops on any given regular season, the majority of fans forget all about the players their team selected just a few months prior (unless that pick is NHL-ready like Auston Matthews or Patrik Lain...

Joining Edmonton Oilers a special opportunity for Saskatchewan's Colby Cave

VANCOUVER — Colby Cave grew up cheering for the Edmonton Oilers, watching them play on Saturday nights and plastering blue and orange pennants on his bedroom walls. Now, the 24-year-old native of Battleford, Sask., is playing for the club he's long idolized. Edmonton claimed Cave off waivers from the Boston Bruins earlier this week. "I grew up watching the Oilers, so it's special for me," the six-foot-one centre said on Wednesday, ahead of his first game with the team against the Vanco...

Brett Leason and the 2019 NHL Draft’s Overage Puzzle

Development isn’t a straight line and young hockey players, like young people of all stripes, often mature at different rates. In the National Hockey League’s 2019 draft class, those two truisms have become manifest in the form of 19-year-old forward Brett Leason. Prince Albert Raiders forward Brett Leason is a tremendous offensive player and one that baffles many amateur scouts. (Robert Murray/WHL) In the midst of the best offensive season of his life, Leason has in equal measures impressed a...

The Super Plunge

Polar Plunges are too chill for these cold-hearted Do-gooders who wade into the frigid Chesapeake 24 times in 24 hours. There are polar bear plunges, and then there is the Super Plunge. For the last 14 years, dozens of participants have shown up to plunge into the frigid waters of the Chesapeake Bay 24 times in 24 hours to raise money for Special Olympics Maryland. “I wasn’t too sure about it at first because I was like, 24 times?” said Adam Hays, a Special Olympics Maryland athlete. Who Could Win Michael DiPietro Sweepstakes?

With a month-and-a-half to go before the OHL trade deadline (usually around Jan. 10), there’s one topic that needs to be addressed. It’s not comfortable for anyone, but it’s one that’s probably inevitable and maybe even required – which team could land Michael DiPietro? Last season, the Windsor Spitfires’ star goaltender became one of the biggest topics of discussion around the trade deadline. General manager Warren Rychel listened to offers right until the deadline. Despite all the talk, DiPiet...

2019 NHL Draft: Fisher’s Top 186 for November

Fisher’s Top 124 for October Fisher’s Top 124 Preseason Rankings I’m trying harder, but this isn’t getting any easier. With every passing year, I’m starting to feel more like a real scout. Realistically, I’m a regional scout — based in British Columbia, now in my 11th season covering the Western Hockey League from Kelowna, and also following the B.C. Hockey League to a lesser degree. The vast majority of my live viewings are WHL games, thus that’s my wheelhouse. (Marissa Baecker/Shootthebree...

2018 Canada/Russia Series: Russia Scores Late to Edge WHL

Coming off a 2-1 victory over Russia in game one of the 2018 Canada/Russia Series, the WHL hoped to complete the sweep at the Langley Events Centre on Nov. 6. Unfortunately, despite outplaying the Russians, the WHL allowed a late goal and then an empty-netter, falling 3-1 in game two of the series. Oilers Prospects Update: Goaltending

In this edition of the Edmonton Oilers Prospect Update, we’re going to be focusing on all things goaltending within the organization. For the first time in a long time, the team can boast about having five goaltenders that are 24 year’s old or younger. Believe it or not, there’s some depth here. The real question is how much of that depth will result in NHL talent? Without a shadow of a doubt, the closest the Oilers have to a No. 1 amongst their youngsters is between Stuart Skinner and Olivier R...

World Junior Championship Attracts Small Crowds On The First Day

from Bruce Arthur of the Toronto Star, If nothing else, this edition of the world juniors might indicate how far you can dig before the well runs dry. Having tried in Toronto and an especially lukewarm Montreal twice in the past three years, the IIHF jammed the tournament back in Buffalo only six years after the Russians scored five third-period goals to come back from a 3-0 deficit to beat Canada in the final, and got so drunk they weren’t allowed on their plane home the next day. Betwee...
