5 Defensemen the Devils Should Target via Trade

The New Jersey Devils need to improve in a number of areas this winter, including on defense. Specifically, they need a top-pairing defenseman, and preferably a number one who can anchor their blue line. Mid-tier unrestricted free agents like Jake Gardiner and Anton Stralman can be helpful, but they aren’t exactly top-pair material. Tyler Myers and Erik Karlsson will likely break the bank and cost too much, and Jacob Trouba will require a king’s ransom if the Winnipeg Jets decide to finally ...

Hurricanes Owe McElhinney Another Shot in Net

It should be an easy decision for the Carolina Hurricanes. Statistically speaking, they barely got adequate goaltending from Petr Mrazek in the playoffs. Curtis McElhinney showed better results in relief. With both slated to become unrestricted free agents, if they have to choose one, go with McElhinney, right? Right. McElhinney’s Surprise Success There’s little denying McElhinney and Mrazek exceeded expectations overall this season. Still, if the Hurricanes were able to make it to Round...

Potential Trade Targets for the Maple Leafs’ Lacklustre Defence

Defence has been the bane of the Toronto Maple Leafs since day one of their rebuild. Four seasons later, and now legitimate Stanley Cup contenders, their defensive struggles persist. After finishing 20th in goals against (3.04 per game) and 24th in shots against (33.1 per game), the Maple Leafs allowed 23 goals in seven games against the Boston Bruins en route to another first round playoff exit. They’ll be looking to improve on their greatest weakness heading into next season, but after losi...

NHL Playoff Officiating has Been Awful

In front of some amazing goaltending, the Boston Bruins won their Eastern Conference Final series against the Carolina Hurricanes and are awaiting the winner of the St. Louis Blues vs. San Jose Sharks battle in the Western Conference Final to see who they will play for the Stanley Cup. Is It All Well In Montreal?

from Brendan Kelly of the Montreal Gazette, How many Stanley Cups have the Montreal Canadiens won since 2011? How many times in the last eight years have they made it to the Cup final? The answers are zero and zero. With the Boston Bruins sweeping those Carolina Hurricanes “jerks” via a 4-0 pummelling Thursday night, the Habs’ archrivals are set to go the Cup final for the third time since 2011. Taking Stock of the Islanders’ Roster

Heading into the 2018-19 season, everyone was sure the New York Islanders would be in the Eastern Conference basement at season’s end. After the departure of John Tavares and questionable offseason acquisitions, no one – including myself – believed incoming general manager Lou Lamoriello and head coach Barry Trotz could take the Islanders to the next level. After a slow start, we were all proved wrong, and the Islanders had a memorable season. Even with a sweep at the hands of the Carolina Hurri...

The Season Comes To An End For The Carolina Hurricanes

from Luke DeCock of the News & Observer, It’s hard to say this wasn’t how it was supposed to end, since they were never supposed to be here in the first place. There was the expected ovation of appreciation from the fans who stuck it out to the end, albeit dampened by the circumstances. The Carolina Hurricanes’ wild month-long ride came to the tamest of ends, a sweep at the hands of a clearly superior opponent, while their captain – maybe at the end of his career, maybe just approachi...

So they can sit back, let their bumps and bruises heal — especially the ones that kept 42-year-old captain Zdeno Chara out of the series-clincher — and watch the San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues beat each other up...

Devils’ Scoring Woes Can Be Improved Through Free Agency

The New Jersey Devils have been quiet in free agency for some time, and it’s not by accident. General manager Ray Shero has been open about his feelings towards free agency and how it’s not the right way to build a team. But things could be different this summer. There’s a deep class of wingers who are slated to become unrestricted free agents (UFA), and Shero shouldn’t be afraid to target a few of them. Here are some names who should be of interest. Jeff Skinner Skinner is coming off a...
