Junkyard Find: 1977 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Coupe

GM shrank its B-Body full-sized models for the 1977 model year, including the massive-selling Chevrolet Caprice/Impala. This proved a wise move in light of certain geopolitical events a couple of years later, and the 1977-1979 full-sized Chevrolet coupes got a cool “fastback” wraparound rear glass treatment. Here is such a car, spotted in a Denver […] The post Junkyard Find: 1977 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Coupe appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

The 10 best used cars to buy to get the most for your money

The automotive data and research site has compiled a list of the 10 cars that experience the highest amount of depreciation over a five-year period. Our sporty 1967 Impala led a less-than-glamorous life in the 1970s

Back in the mid-1970s, my family acquired a 1967 Impala sport coupe to serve as our second car. It would endure school drop-off and pick-up duty, grocery shopping, transporting items that we didn’t want to load or couldn’t fit into our primary car, and perform other everyday tasks. I can still recall the day we bought it and that the settled-upon price was $400. It was Marina Blue with blue interior, was equipped with a 275-hp 327 engine and automatic transmission, and was stock down to the wh...

Auction Coverage Overflow – Silver Auctions Arizona’s 2018 Scottsdale Sale

1995 Chevrolet Impala SS; image by the author. When covering auctions for our print publications, a simple rule of thumb–that we do our best to adhere to–is to review a few extra vehicular lots. It’s good practice, since one never knows if a lot is going to be withdrawn at the last minute, or–worse–we forgot to snag a photo of the car we just examined, only to discover that error when we return to the office. Which means that by the time our more detailed coverage is readied for print, we end ...

2018 Cadillac XTS V-Sport First Test: Nicer Than You Think, But…

The XTS is for anyone who’s ever tried to sit in the CTS’ back seat behind a tall driver. Sure, the CTS is an accomplished, comparison-winning sport sedan and our 2014 Car of the Year, but the XTS provides far more space at the same price. And in the 410-hp, all-wheel-drive V-Sport Platinum form, the updated 2018 XTS does its best to earn a $73,840 price tag and eradicate associations you may have of the XTS as chauffeur-driven airport transportation. 2019 Toyota Avalon Touring First Test: Are You Looking At Me Now?

Long relegated to status as a floaty barge for end-stage buyers, the 2019 Toyota Avalon—specifically the sporty Touring trim—has become a proper flagship with actual driving prowess. The term “vanilla” and Avalon once went hand-in-hand because the conservatively styled sedan provided a comfortable ride with the absence of driving excitement (perfect for Aunt Trudie down in New Port Richey). But the Avalon’s 2019 redesign sheds the stigma by offering a driving experience that borders on exhilarat...

2019 Toyota Avalon First Drive: A Flagship Split in Two

Toyota’s past and future collide in the 2019 Avalon, a flagship full-size sedan that must regain the trust of buyers put off by the outgoing model’s stiff ride quality, yet Toyota must also attract younger buyers with a car that’s sportier than any of its previous four generations. So does the Avalon return to its roots as a mature, vaguely premium, comfortable sedan, or does it lean further toward the Nissan Maxima’s sporty side of the spectrum? Yes. Toyota’s new Avalon strategy splits the l...

Flogging a Rare Beast: Vintage Driving Impression of a 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS 427 Convertible

At Chevrolet’s preview of its new-for-1966 models held in July 1965, Petersen Publishing’s photo chief Bob D’Olivo captured a boat of an Impala convertible lapping a GM proving ground. It’s hard to make out in the photo, but there are crossed flags on the Imp’s front fenders, a tip-off that this was no everyday boulevard cruiser. It was a Super Sport, powered by a top-of-the-line 427 and backed by a four-speed, no less. Chevy’s big-block offerings grew to 427 inches for 1966, and two versions we...
